Altho the % of home wins in games reff'ed by Nigel is alarmingly high - advantage Leinster unfortunately

Looking forward to this one, big style! Looks like we are bringing over a decent crowd. Don't buy the 5k or 6k stories but should be into 4 figures.

Glasgow tweeted that they've sold 1.5k
I assume the 7.5k go back to Leinster now, they flog them to their season ticket holders and the balance go on public sale on Friday. It will be well sold out either way. I've had 4 or 5 people asking me about tickets already this week.
I'm able to buy mine after 12 today.

Strauss if fit starts for me, actually against Munster him and Nakarawa were used perfectly even if it wasn't intentional. Let Strauss batter the opposition from close quarter and then bring in Nakarawa when it opens up a bit.
Gordon Reid must start too, the guy is on fire.

I think that a lot of them will, Mick, but probably not all. You had to be on particular mailing lists for the early allocation and now the tickets are available to the public at large (or at least they should be...).Mickado wrote:Glasgow tweeted that they've sold 1.5k

Re: Pro12 Final 31/5
Nigel Owens reffing? There's lovely.
Even the dullest game is made watchable when the commentary picks up his gentle, yet encouraging asides to the players.
"We haven't been introduced yet. I'M THE REFEREE." Is one of my faves.
As a weege I am slightly concerned ; with Kebabshop Boy out and no word on Bluto's injury we may be down to one fit 8. Yes, I know Jedi and The tackle Monster can play there, and would tackle themselves into the ground, but would they give us the go forward that we need? We could be looking at a back row of; Harley-Naka-Holmes with Jedi on the bench. There's something to ponder.
p.s. The over use of nick-names is revenge on Jen for starting this thread thus denying us one of GC's crackers. They are always a thing of beauty. Also, I am not choleric just because I'll be in sunny Essex next weekend and not in Dublin's fair city where the girls....

ME-109 you'll get me in trouble: I'm more than capable of doing that by myself.
Suffering from mixed emotions this evening. I tuned into The Rugby Club on BT Sports and saw World Cup Winner Ben Kay talking to a couple of guys from Wanstead 2nds. I thought, "Seven degrees of separation: I was playing against and drinking with those guys a couple of weeks ago and there they are with a genuine international rugby player."
Then I realised he was saying look how ridiculous fat boys in the lower leagues look in skin tight jerseys.
I tell you if I ever meet that Ben Kay on a rugby pitch he'd better look out.... He might do himself an injury trying not to laugh at the sight of me in a too tight jersey.

Any decent looking youngwans from outside head our way anyway to get away from Dod and his mates.
On the threads thing.
I am not a fan of long titles (telling you what day it's on what time who's in it etc. We focking know all that ffs) or of long OPs. You end up with about 3 posts per page and loads of useless stats to scroll through.
Having said that. The picture thing he does is interesting. (Though I never haver a clue who any of them are) If he wants to Mod in some stuff into the OP that's fine. (or post it and I will add it)

Nah mate. I will be at the B&I cup final in Dublin. Didn't really fancy Toulon and Sarries. Though the crack would have probably been good.
Donnybrook is 10 mins walk from my house and tickets are about a tenner for STHs.
I hear you won't be joining us at the RDS next week either.

Sure we're all posh boll1xes from D4. Those lads are Northsiders. Dublin is broad enough to contain us all.
On a side note. If you watch this film and then what Richard did. (Both from the same director, Lenny Abraham's son ) You get to see those 2 strands of Dublin life.

Mickado, tis the phoney war period. You know, no word from either camp so we can't debate selections, the initial euphoria over being in the final has worn off and we're too far away from the day itself to get too worked up as yet.
By the way, I can't see space to insert an anorexic supermodel between the sides at the moment. I'm hoping the hungrier team will win on Saturday.

After the Wilko-gasms foisted on unsuspecting viewers by he insufferable Sky commentary teams last weekend, I expect the average run up to the match will be like this:
2 hours before kick off: a 90 minute BOD-athon, showing every one of his tries, interviews with him, Mrs BOD, Geech, Schmidt, Gatland and the Pope.
30 mins before kick off: a 20 minute Leinster video montage showing their route to the final.
10 mins before kick off: a 5 minute interview with Joe Schmidt talking about how Leinster have evolved.
5 mins before kick off: a 4 minute analysis on Leinster's key players.
1 minute before kick off: a brief glance at the Glasgow team sheet, mispronouncing every player.
Kick-off.

Re: Pro12 Final 31/5
I'm torn because I always support my fellow Irish provinces, but Leinster have only had one trophyless season since 2008 and Glasgow have never won a trophy. In the last six years Leinster have won 3 Heineken Cups, 2 Pro12s and an Amlin Challenge Cup. Whereas this is the first time Glasgow have reached the Final of any competition. It would be brilliant for the league if Scotland actually had a successful team to look to for inspiration!
So it's kind of not that big a deal for me if Leinster don't win yet another trophy and Glasgow are a team I really admire for their spirit and their punching above their weight, not to mention their style of play.
As for BOD- BOD has won everything you can win in the game of rugby, pretty much. I'm sentimental about him retiring, but not about him retiring with another trophy. I was desperate to see him pick up another Six Nations trophy and beyond delighted he did. But it's not the same this time around. He's won the Six Nations twice and the Heineken Cup three times. He's been on four Lions tours. This is small beer in comparison.
I think I want the Weege to take it, you know.

Bet the commentators wont mention the sterling work yourself and Schiz do bringing unbiased, reasoned viewpoints to a grateful public. Oh, and GC you forgot the 15 minute voxpop in O'Connell Street where local ne'erdowells wax lyrical about the mystical properties of "the craic".

Kick-off.
If the match is on RTE, that won't be happening. They wouldn't be the best at hyping up the league.
More likely will be a 20 minute discussion about how we're in the final despite not playing well, George Hook will bellow through his cud about how we're a team on the decline and how BOD is not retiring but jumping into a lifeboat from a sinking ship etc.

Ah Notch. You make a good point. Just what is their 'weight', exactly?Notch wrote:I'm torn because I always support my fellow Irish provinces, but Leinster have only had one trophyless season since 2008 and Glasgow have never won a trophy.
They've made the playoffs three times in the last four seasons and yet the fact that they do always seems to come as a surprise to a lot of people. The team that beat Munster consisted of (a) all Scottish internationalists, (b) 3 British & Irish Lions (would have been 4 if Hogg was selected), (b) two of the best internationalists Fiji has produced in the past 5 years and (d) someone that the SA Mail & Guardian described as the finest player of his generation not to receive a Springbok cap (Josh Strauss). Add to that the fact that the squad has essentially been the same for the past 2 and half years and I am fascinated by the disjoint between general expectation and reality.
The other thing that never ceases to amaze me is commentators who literally have no clue, none, about the Glasgow team. You would think that with the top 6-8 teams in the league, there would be a general knowledge about key players, team strategy and a general sense as to what the side is about. I have watched all manner of commentators behind the mike at Glasgow's televised games and they know so little it staggers me.
Perhaps I'm just making too much of this.

Re: Pro12 Final 31/5
I think their weight is lighter than it should be- I lived in Scotland for nine years, was a regular at Murrayfield for much of that time and always marvelled at how the overriding emotions of the Scottish rugby fans tended towards constant soul crushing negativity! And then the team seemed ruled by fear and panic.
Glasgow don't play with that heavy mental burden. You expect Scottish teams to fail because of their mindset not any lack of talent- talent is there in abundance and always has been. It's the negative mentality that makes people think 'Scottish Rugby Player' and 'Champion' are oxymorons. But Glasgow play like a team that believes they are and can be winners! I like and admire that. When you hear them talk about the standards they've set and their ambitions and goals they don't sound like Scottish rugby players at all. This is not the language and mindset I grew to associate with Scottish rugby- they sound like winners and competitors. Thats something new for me as a long term sympathiser towards Scottish rugby.
It's something better and if the team does go on to clinch a title or two, the prospect of it becoming a new normal in Scotland rugby circles will be cause for some considerable rejoicing! I hope they do, and I hope it does.
Of course they are going up against a team that are winners to the core. They're not even that good a team anymore, Leinster, they just are so mentally strong and used to winning. Used to expecting to win and used to going out and turning that into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Finding a way to win even when they play badly. So it'll be tough.

Jenifer,
As a down trodden English serf, I don't know what a ladyboy is, what is "soap"? Which side is which?
I had heard that there was a shortage of washing implements in the Celtic regions but was unaware that ladies messed around with boys there, I thought that was left to Paul Gadd and his like.

Agree with most all of that Georgie. Really pisses me off when I constantly hear commentric ignorance on this squad from gobshites who should know better. The best side in the PRO12 this year and close to it over the last 3 years. On form and against all the big clubs, they have performed at a consistently high level and are great to watch.
I understand what Notch is saying though. They are a small club, with relatively limited finances and a small local fan-base, who refuse to give them the live support they so deserve. No offence meant, but it is almost Welsh-like in its indifference and apathy. I just look at the facts. It should be a 10,000 sell-out every week.
I would also agree with the Notch sentiment on them winning it at last. I'd smile inside if Weegies won a trophy. Phookit, we have won enough. Spread the rugby love. And, they will have earned it by total merit alone. Luck has never come their way in the SF's. Had us on the ropes twice at the RDS. Lost twice at the RDS. A 1st Final may change that.
But, I have a feeling we are going to break their little Scottish hearts again. Its what we do. Even if we are shoite to watch now, we are incredibly difficult to beat.

It might have been me who added the additional detail to the beginning of Jen's post.
As Jen will confirm, Leinster are frequently tagged as the Ladyboys given their outstanding natural beauty (will you look at the head on Cullen, gorgeous). Glasgow are referred to as the soap dodgers as part of the amusing ongoing view that the average Glaswegian wouldn't waste money on bathing products because chips and heroin cost a lot more than they used to.

Completely in 2 minds about this one, Gibster. Completely. Heart says us, head says there's reason why you've only beaten a side in their backyard once in 19 attempts. But finally, finally, I think that we might have got ourselves in a place where we don't give a collective sh!te and that, that, is the mindset that you need to start changing hearts and minds.
Can't put a value on simply not being afraid any more.

That is actually a great summing up of where Scottish rugby has been for years and where Glasgow are now!
You can't blame the commentators really, who all seemed to be of the opinion that it was a question of when, not if Glasgow tripped up, at the end of the day that's what Scottish teams do, even what Glasgow did last year in the semi, a game we could and should have won! Truth is even most Scottish fans probably deep down feel the same way, we have been there so many times before.
Yet there does seem to be something different about this Glasgow side. Earlier this season they showed they have learnt the art of winning without playing very well, something all good teams can do. Since then they have shown they can beat teams with a reputation, home and away, they have also shown they can deal with the pressure. They just need to win this final and show the rest of the country and the world how good they are. Then people will start to take us seriously!

What really sums up Scottish rugby is that a win on Saturday would be the biggest and best thing to happen to us in 15 years! So no pressure there!

I like Glasgow but no way in hell would I be okay with them winning. We've lost too many Rabo finals as it is and losing at home is not acceptable.

I don't have any doubts about the mentality of Glasgow. But Leinster are still one of Europe's best sides and still the best in the league. And playing at home.

If Glasgow attack from the off (like they're gonna!) and Leinster choose to soak some of that up and only say hello to the game of attack around about 35 minutes in - then Leinster will lose.
Leinster don't have the guile or gameplay smarts to pace games as though it was their birthright anymore.... and certainly not against the runaway train that has often proved itself to be Glasgow this season.
HEC mentality and performance levels are required for this one - don't let Glasgow boss the pace or boss the territory.
Leinster need to impose an intensity of effort on Glasgow that they really haven't mustered all season. Is that performance genuinely there at the flick of a switch if needed anyway? Not so sure at all. Too many distractions (International 'Schmidt' fixations), too much pragmatic Aussieness in Yawn'n'BellyScratch O' Connor and far far too many recycling retirement parties!

Irish Times state that Hoggy will defo not feature on Saturday night - Ulster favourites to pick him up as he leaves Glasgow one year early in the summer, but rumours of Sarries (do they just get associated with everyone these days) and unnamed French club interest

Again we can't really comment until we hear some official news, but if he left Glasgow now his popularity with the Scotland fans would surely plummet - I can't see it going down well at all.
