Top 5 War of attrition fights.
To all who have been in a boxing ring know exactly how hard it can be. It is why boxing is top of the food chain in all competative sports, the real test of endurance. It still amazes me to see a 12 round war unfold before my eyes but I have been lucky enough to have witnessed unreal feats of attrition.
Here are my top 5 bouts
5) Gomez v Pintor
4) Duran v Leonard 1
3) Chavez v Rosario
2) Gatti v Ward
1) Ali v Frazier 3

Odd pick at three, it might have been a war of attrition between Chavez's fists and Rosarios head and body but was hardly a physically demanding fight for him.

Holyfield vs Qawi immediately springs to mind.

Hammy, Rosario chavez was physically demanding for Rosario.
I'd say all of jcc's fights were wars of attrition because that's what he turned them into, but I agree the Rosario one was more of a beatdown than an attritional classic.
Holy qawi 1 is a good shout haz.
Ibeabuchi tua?
Pryor arguello 1, was last man standing too

The first two Zaragoza-Banke fights, as well as Fenech-Villasana. All three of them were total carnage. To be honest, Coyle-Brizuela wouldn't be out of place with any of them.

Just any Villasana fight would do, the guy was made of iron, Hoko's shots just bounced off him like they were nothing.

Mancini - Kim....One of the greatest wars I've ever seen....
Shame it ended so tragically....

Chacon vs Edwards II is a fight which appears to be forgotten about but sensational!

Chavez - Rosario...Strange fight..Met my Wife that night after being dragged to a party when I was looking forward to watching this instead..
I hate parties....
Rosario seemed to accept his fate much too readily...After seeing him destroy Bramble I picked him to win..But it seemed like Chavez just said you are going on the ropes, getting battered and liking it..
Thought both Steele and Edwin's corner were negligent also..
At least three rounds of unnecessary abuse..

Yeh, I don't honk many of us expected the one way traffic. Seemed like Jcc just imposed that indomitable will of his on Rosario and made it his fight.
Just like the red baroness would do to trussy later in the evening.
... Rosario's suffering only lasted an evening.

Chacon-Limon IV just about shades it for me; Bassa-McAuley I the worthiest of runners-up.

Robert Quiroga vs Kid Akeem Anifowoshe for me, a remarkable, brutal and tragic ending fight.

Gatti Ward is an obvious one.
Happy with the inclusion of Cotto Margarito. The rematch had possibly my favourite quote from Cotto 'I can taste defeat on him. He means nothing to me.'. Straight out of the Ivan Drago handbook of soundbites from Cotto. Legend

Miracle Matthew was certainly my first thought here.
JCC vs Taylor was excruciating.

Willard v Johnson. Willard accepting his boxing lesson early on then coming back to knock his man out. The fight was set up for the big farm boy to win, as it was set for 45 rounds in baking heat, which 37 year old Johnson was never likely to do.

Macklin/Moore domestically.
Eubank Watson II.
Chacon V Limon IV.
Can't believe Benn Vs Mclellan hasn't been mentioned.
Eubank Vs Benn I also up there.
Ibeabuchi Vs Tua, incredible pace and don't know how two murderous punchers could take each others stuff.
Gatti Vs Ward
Cotto Vs Margarito
Robinson Vs Basilio I, how Robinson took so much in the 11th was staggering, to just come back in the very next round.
Guerrero Vs Berto was a real war of attrition that will always get overlooked I think.
Marquez Vs Diaz I.
Eubank Watson II.
Chacon V Limon IV.
