Bold and stupid call, even if they score that was very dum, you would not have seen Carter doing that!

England's forwards haven't been up to the ball carrying challenge. Oh for Ed Slater and Billy Vunipola.

All Blacks wake up...
All banter aside. England played really well and should be proud of that. Upset yes, but proud...
Just like against the Irish last year, even down to last few mins, you just believe the Blacks will find something to win.

Marler and May don't number up. If they look up and see the three on two then they call an extra defender out and Smith is tackled into touch. Should never have been playing from that deep.

I can't be bothered with taking any positives out of this game...
What I do know though is that we have a serious squad for next years World Cup .. Which ok is a positive. But I am fuming . Owens you haven't the balls to ref this sort of game

England can still be proud of themselves
Just didn't have the quality bench cover in the forwards
Looking forward to the return of our boys next week

And that was England missing some big game players in Care and Farrell pushing the AB's all the way in their own backyard. Even as an Irishman I am a little gutted for England today, they really deserved that.
England under Lancaster have come along in leaps and bounds and are a real joy to watch. Well played the AB's but that was a home result if ever I have seen one.

Ah well. Take the positives...
NZ might be more relieved than happy after that ; and surely England will take a lot of confidence from that effort in their impregnable fortress ?
Still dissatisfied : they didn't deserve to lose that.

Re: England XV vs New Zealand First Test
I'm furious! Not with Owens, though he hasn't helped. Not even with the poor handling and sloppy mistakes, but the sheer stupidity at crucial moments. We deserved to lose this game because of that, which is infuriating because the match was there for the taking.

Owens helped NZ comeback against Ireland and when he denied us a draw down in NZ and he has helped NZ here again.

Re: England XV vs New Zealand First Test
England were very unlucky. Thought they played with the right intensity; some poor handling and a few dubious referee decisions let them down.
Both teams were pretty rusty but a good intro for the series.

Re: England XV vs New Zealand First Test
England need to improve that pack. The reserves weren't up to scratch with Johnson anonymous and Gray's sole contribution being that final penalty. Desperately need to upgrade the carrying capabilities of those forwards particularly the tight five who weren't up to scratch in the the loose.
Best backs performance we've seen for England for years! Please keep that midfield on situ and just bring back the on form Care. Farrell and Twelvetrees haven't offered anything like Burns and Eastmond did today. Manu seems to thrive on the gain line play of Eastmond and Burns as well.

Re: England XV vs New Zealand First Test
Owens wasn't as good as he usually is, inconsistent.
Thought the Eastmond Tualigi combo has huge potential.
With the players coming in.
Reckon Lawes & Dickson/Care are the only ones I would change.

Good to see that England have now decided that a 'glorious'defeat is OK after slating Wales so long. It's Wales who do not take glorious defeats anymore, they are worthless. Still hat's off deep down I was impressed by the display England put on.

Its not a Wum - I opened this thread to read some analysis. Most of the posts I saw were desperately one eyed comments slagging of the ref. I didn't see the pull back as I missed the first few mins. Owens is the best ref in the world and as ever didn't miss much, didn't " bottle it" as people were complaining. When you are second best and then blame the ref for getting beaten then its a very poor show

Re: England XV vs New Zealand First Test
Yes England performed very well, but when a game is for all intents a draw, the team with a centre that can read the try scoring opportunity over on the blind side wing, somehow often creates a win out of nothing.

Re: England XV vs New Zealand First Test
I can understand the frustrations. A rookie England squad and they held their heads up high and put the pressure on NZ and made them look ordinary.
NZ will treat this as a loss. They'll feel they were outplayed by England and for me it'll be interesting to see how England react and the selections they'll make. You'd have to think the additions England are going to make will make them stronger and they'll be mentally strong knowing that they were very unlucky to come away with a loss with an inexperienced side. NZ, on the other hand, will know they were ordinary tonight and players like Messam will see the impact Vito made coming on and ask themselves where was that intensity from themselves at the start of the game.
So hold your heads up high England fans. Owens got it wrong on a number of calls tonight and NZ know they're going to have lift a lot more in the series if they intend to keep that home record intact. kia kaha

Yes, Smith ran from far on the openside to call for that ball and the try, it was a quality individual movement from him

I suggest you desist with bagging the English immediately, unless you feel an extended break is in order.

But those comments are coming from folk from all nations, not just English. It's pretty simply, NZ should of had two yellows in that game. Two knock-ons shouldn't of been called against england either.
On the whole though England (with not 1st choice players) played well.

Poor reffing by Owens today, which is a shame as I normally like how he refs the big games. How many players do England have coming back into the squad for the 2nd test?

As said in my other post just after the quoted one - congrats to NZ on getting the win under pressure in the first game of the International season. The sign of a good side winning when not at their best.
However I can't agree NZ were clearly the better side and feel the non sin binning of Fekitoa followed by the binning of Yarde for a very similar offence was the defining moment in the last 10-15 minutes.
