Re: Scottish team - Cotter
To be honest, Alive, I'm going to have to disagree. I really don't think we should be looking to Hollywood theme songs to promote ourselves!
One of things I love at Scotstoun is when they play Biffy Clyro as the Warriors run out - here's a modern band with a bit of aggression and some major international appeal. Then they insist on playing 'I Belong to Glasgow' and I groan inwardly at the sheer cliché of that antiquated, inward-looking rubbish which was at its most popular in 1920s music hall.
This song, The Gael, and basically everything else by Dougie MacLean, is just more of the same, looking back at history with thistle-tinted spectacles, and certainly isn't the modern, progressive and inclusive Scotland I recognise or want to promote to the world.

i hope you know why . it called the highland cathedral. its in the blood , its a legendary scottish pipe tune

BUT
we need to get our collective pre match Poopie together - how to collectively fire up the troops. thats what we need not fireworks fancy bs .
PASSION !
alive, I personally love Highland Cathedral, but let's not delude ourselves as to its true origins: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_Cathedral
I'd have it over Flower of Scotland, altho many would not

Trust the Germans - they have always produced the finest composers.
I do think we should replace Flower of Scotland, if only so that we have a better anthem for the begining of the match and an "unofficial anthem" (e.g. Flower of Scotland) to sing during it. More singing at Scotland games allround would be a good thing.
Still, I would prioritise picking the right XV for starters, something we haven't done for a long time. The singing can come second!

Well you say that FES, but look at the Welsh! They got their songs in order and now look at them….

That is true. For all Warren Gatland has done for Welsh rugby, I think we can all agree that Tom Jones and Katherine Jenkins are the real reason for their success.

Massed pipes and drums. Nothing else is needed.
While we are at it get the lone piper back for Highland Cathedral when the team emerges, none of this rock remix crap.

Yeah, bring back the lorn piper, although just to make it more interesting, have him wearing a jet pack
Joking aside though, I'd like to see the SRU make a few changes to per match. Very minor one here, but in recent times just before Scotland run out, the stadium announcer bellows that "this is Murrayfield" - no s**t Sherlock, "the home of Scottish rugby" - once again no s**t. Can we please ditch that.

Re: Scottish team - Cotter
"Rise up!" - OK, yeah, I'm standing.
"Be a nation!" - Yes, again, we already are a group of people who share a common language, culture, ethnicity, descent, or history
"Now welcome... SCOTLAND!!" - Oh, crikey! Those guys in the blue shirts, they're my team. GO MY TEAM!
I wouldn't mind the rocked-up Highland Cathedral guff if it didn't contrast so strongly with the most famous 'entry moment' in world rugby, a moment which the SRU reminds us of at every opportunity, and has taken it's rightful place in the climax of the almighty Murrayfield-gasm of our sporting successes.

None of that bothers me as much as the countdown which they always seem to get wrong/out of time. Nothing must intimidate the opposition more than knowing Scotland can't count properly.

I always half-cringe at the Murrayfield entertainment. I feel it should have "proudly supported by the SNP" on the advertising boards at half time. There are highland dancers, a couple of thousand bagpipers, some half drunk countdown etc. What makes a good atmosphere is a team playing to their best, playing attractive rugby and making the game a contest against any opposition. And don't get me started on food and drink...
If I had the keys to the entertainment booth, I'd play top 40 tracks quietly at half time and maybe have a live singer pre match. People tend to go with friends and want to chat, not sit through rubbish.
Hang on...
Why not have the 7s team (intl) play another Scottish 7s team like accies at ht? Drum up 7s support too

Because you and your little friends have ruined the pitch, so there's usually a small army with spades trying in vain to fix the pitch!
I think at half time we should put Scott Johnson in the stocks at the half way line and throw rocks. Not family friendly enough?

Sad to think I'm unwanted at Murrayfield and that they favour fake grass. It's like saying that Katie Price or Ann Robinson is the way forward. I despair...

How did we get onto talking about pole dancing and chart music on this thread?
Oh, I forgot for a moment that we Scottish posters always steer of topic (and usually end up talking about boobs)

Based on our 6N showing Cotter has seen the error of his ways and done a runner, and SJ has been given a 7 year contract as head coach?

It's official, Murrayfield to be renamed as BT Murrayfield Stadium.
Kinda disappointed they didn't go for the 'Johnnie BT stadium" mind you.

So 2 letters B and T in front of Murrayfield that nobody will mention has wiped out the SRU's debt - and for only 4 years?

Interestingly it is basically the whole of Scottish rugby that is being sponsored, right down to the academies.
Didn't see any mention of a price though?

I think the BBC had a figure around £20m a few weeks ago leaving around £9-11m surplus. I THINK. Might have been on here though.

That's what was banded about.
Have to say I'm delighted with this and 'BT Murrayfield Stadium' really is no problem at all - it's hardly changing 'Highbury' to 'The Emirates' is it?
Even 'BT Sport Murrayfield Stadium' would have been a bit of a guddle.
Very good news!

Re: Scottish team - Cotter
We've come out of this pretty lightly, and the retention of "Murrayfield" in the name means it'll just be called "Murrayfield".
At least we haven't been bought by some ludicrous owner like Cardiff City Football Club, who has changed their team colours from blue to red, or the clown at Hull City who feels "City" is too common, and wants to change their name to "Hull Tigers"!!
That said, I have some pretty left field ideas for the day I win the lottery and buy the Glasgow Warriors.....

They nicked a penalty back at the death so ended 27-8. Still an Everest to climb though. I have to say I have seen them play a couple of times this year and boy did they miss Rennie tonight, LW destroyed them at the breakdown. As Joanie Mitchell says, 'sometimes you don't know what you've got till its gone!'

Indeed.
Maybe he's made the decision that it is unlikely he is ever going to get back to his best, and that the world cup was a long shot anyway? Would be a real shame if that is the case but he has had some serious injuries.
What is certain is that if Bristol are in the Championship next season and Rennie stays with them, he won't be going to the world cup.

he isnt badly injured now. In fact I don't think he's rules out even for next weeks game.
Its 2014 . another club could come in or he could exercise a get out clause. Either way needs to be fit first.
If I'm not wrong strokers club got relegated so I think he's off on account of that (is that confirmed? )

Cause he'd have been playing championship rugby all season. If he's playing Championship rugby he's unlikely to be selected for the AIs and 6N leading up to it, which means he'll be unlikely to earn his place in the WC squad.

Tiger, the problem is how do you judge him better than Fusaro, Barclay and Cowen when he is playing at a lower level. It makes for me hard to judge properly. I rate Rennie highly. For me he's our most talented openside, but a season in the second tier is far from ideal.

I still say the jersey is his to lose!
If Bristol are in the 2nd tier next season but Rennie is playing on form, then give him a run in the AIs if his form continues in the international game, then surely he shouldn't be written off!!!
Of course this is all dependent on A: Bristol not going up B: Rennie staying there if they don't!

What do you base that on? He hasn't played for Scotland since he limped off against the ABs in November 2012!
Rennie is my favourite Scotland player, but if he's not playing top flight rugby he really shouldn't be considered.

Unfortunately for Rennie we do have options in the back row and with Samoa and South Africa in the RWC, I wouldn't be surprised if Kelly Brown took 7 or we had 2x6s.
Hope he has a good time at Bristol, although if playing international rugby was his true ambition he'd i) joined an aviva/top14/pro12 team or ii) waited to see if Bristol go up.
