Wimbledon day 6 Thread
First topic message reminder :
Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ) v Rafael Nadal (ESP) [2]
Santiago Giraldo (COL) v Roger Federer (SUI) [4]
Stan Wawrinka (SUI) [5] v Denis Istomin (UZB)
Milos Raonic (CAN) [8] v Lukasz Kubot (POL)
Jerzy Janowicz (POL) [15] v Tommy Robredo (ESP) [23]
Simone Bolelli (ITA) v Kei Nishikori (JPN) [10]
Nick Kyrgios (AUS) v Jiri Vesely (CZE)
Rohan Bopanna (IND) [8] Aisam Qureshi (PAK) [8] v Vasek Pospisil (CAN) Jack Sock (USA)
Interesting matches,
1]we wanna see what this kid Kyrgios upto after a great game against Gasquet, can he continue that? if he does he might get a date with Rafa.
2]Bolelli has the style of Fed, long time back I called him the poor man's Fed and I still stick to that, I don't think so Kei will have an easy match.
3]We have Roger , Rafa on centre court, may not be great opponents but these days does it really matter?
Finally we got a double match of an interesting pair of CANUS Pospisil and Jack SOCK .
Player of the tournament - Andy by a mile, great exhibition of skill, grass court play, aggression, groundies, serve, volley and running forehands, his aggressive running forehand last game was a treat to the eyes and he is playing better than 2012/2013.
Note: Coolers without smiley is very strange, I had to control my smiley buttons coz for some reason there is a bug in this forum which is loading the threads so slowly when a smiley is added, this wasn't an issue in the past, may be the mods and Admins can take the issue a bit more seriously, its now months since this issue is sorted out.

Re: Wimbledon day 6 Thread
Nadal cruising now, but I am surprised he lost even a set here. Even big hitters find it hard to try blow Rafa off the court and Kukushkin does not really have a game to do it.
TBH, I think he was touch lucky to get that first set too. Rafa looked far more comfortable on his service games in that set but then did not do the same in TB.
Still, credit to Kukushkin for playing the right tactic and not folding before the match started.

Re: Wimbledon day 6 Thread
I missed the first set as I was asleep, how on earth did Kuku win the first set, all I see is Nadal demolishing him all wings from the time I started watching the match.
Did Nadal play poorly or kuku played out of skin in the 1st set?

It was always a tall order that Kukushkin to maintain the level he played in the first set.
And now with the rain delay Vesely/Kyrgios have no chance of getting on today. The stars are lining a la US Open last year.

nah I am not into asteriksing slams. That's for the mentally desperate.
I know Nadal won't take his opponents lightly, but given how his draw is going and with today's weather you can't help but give a thumbs up to those slam gods

Re: Wimbledon day 6 Thread
I like the roof but it will give an advantage to Rafa and Roger.
BTW, how will the scheduling work if today is a washout outside CC? Will they still play top half 4th round on Monday alongside bottom half 3rd round? If so, then top half would have massive advantage. They would play Fri-Mon-Wed while some of the guys in the bottom half would have to play Mon-Tue-Wed, which could catch up with them later.
Even Rafa and Roger would have to play back-to-back Tue-Wed.

They would have to play them Monday SB. I would imagine CC is going to get a workout on Monday.
I agree it isn't fair, but you can't help but love British summer. I am 50 miles from Wimbledon and not a drop of rain down here.

Can't stand long drawn out rain. Back home at Johannesburg, there's a thunderstorm for twenty minutes, a few trees fall over, a road flooded, and the sun is shining twenty minutes later.

The forehand Is brimming. Old Mikhail didn't really have the game to win, but he'll go home quite pleased with his week at Wimbledon. 3rd round, a set taken off the world #1.

Brazil is up-and-down, may not be a surprise, if Chile wins the match.

CC is emptied. Perhaps W organizers should issue earplugs to lure spectators into CC. I am sure it will fill back again for Federer v Giraldo.

Any early weather indications for next week? Remember that Nadal and Federer have to play on Court 1 at some point (Novak too?)

Nadal looking good, but liek a diesel engine he is slow starting still, he could do with hitting those gears quicker. When he does he looks very hard to stop. I still think that Fed has a good chance given how hes playing, I dunno i seem to be he only one with that sentiment.

Oh dear!! I don't even see the whole "Sharapova is the best looking woman in the world" thing either. I'd say Azarenka and others trump her on that one.

Re: Wimbledon day 6 Thread
I'd have preferred Ivanovic-Lisicki, myself. Sharapova is too damn tall for me. She's also to skinny, and has a clause in her employee contracts which I feel strongly damages the human rights movement.

Re: Wimbledon day 6 Thread
I'm a fan of Cornet. She's a typical French player - inconsistent as anything but brilliant to watch when playing well.
Elsewhere...
Eugenie ( ) a set and a break up on Petkovic, Halep a set up, Kerber a set down but a break up in the 2nd v Flipkens. Robredo took the first set 6-2 v Janowicz (winner plays Federer)

Giraldo taking much bigger cuts now. Federer with 3 Aces from 15-40, if that helps any LK.

Mimimum fuss for Roger - a job well done in straight sets and in not too long a time on court.

Re: Wimbledon day 6 Thread
Janowicz 2 sets down to Robredo. I can hear the sigh of relief from Federer fans (very likely Federer would win that match anyway but as you saw last year the man is very, very dangerous). Jerzy's ranking will take a hit here - he'll drop to somewhere around the 40-50 mark I think.

Actually his level has been brought down by Giraldo, now Fed's chance has taken a beating for the tournament.
You need a good match to be warmed up for tougher matches in 2nd week, and you need a poor match to get cooled down for the 2nd week, both Rafa and Fed had a horrible match, Fed particularly had a horrible match not by his own standards but by the match in general.

Raonic leads Kubot 7-6 7-6. Nishikori levels at one set all against Bolelli and Vesely/Kyrgios looks like being a marathon they are tied at one set all and 5-5.
