Wimbledon Day 11 - Men's Semi Finals
First topic message reminder :
Well folks here it is. We are down to the nitty gritty. Is it a time for new hero's? Or will the old guard starve off the new breed?
Djokovic in his 5th Wimbledon semi final. Federer in his 8th.
Dimitrov and Raonic in their first Slam semi finals respectively.
If we go by the H2H we should expect another Federer and Djokovic final. However, it's a Slam and anything can happen.
I actually have the day off, so take that work! Can't wait for some stonking tennis action!

I'm not surprised to hear that.legendkillarV2 wrote:He was in total control of that second set and the momentum just suddenly reversed itself.
In 2011, this was usually the precursor to a stirring comeback.
Nowadays, not so much.

Sadly I'm at work at the moment and can only check in on the scores occasionally.
He was in total control of that second set and the momentum just suddenly reversed itself.
For me he wasn't. Dimi was terrible for around 20 minutes, i.e. the control was merely because Novak played consistent solid Tennis, but not outstanding
I'll go further and declare that I think Dimi is currently playing Tennis that no-one can live with it, i.e. if he can play at his best he wins this event
This of course is a big 'if' - been at your best for five more hours against Novak and perhaps Roger, ain't gonna be easy

Why are tennis players incapable of using the word "unbelievable" properly.
Goran Ivanisevic: "... Dimitrov has to play unbelievable to beat him."

I see a lot of Nadal and Federer in Dimitrov - Very Nadal like in his defense, and ability to get away with camping on the backhand side, very Federer like in his artistry, and shotmaking. He also has a single bend forehand, which is extremely rare (understandably so, it seems to either get you 10+ slams, or you end up like Verdasco)

That's a rather bold statement.
I will say yes the game is on Dimitrovs racquet, but also on Djokovics legs because unlike Murray he will pump a load of balls into play.

seem to remember reading he changed his forehand relatively recently

What a handshuffler!
Indeed. With his bucktoothed offspring eclipsed by the better looking and more talented Bouchards.
I started this match as a neutral but leaning towards wanting Dimitrov to get through. Would be great to see a Fed v Baby-Fed final.

Dimitrov misses a BP chance.
Wonder how pivotal that will be.

Re: Wimbledon Day 11 - Men's Semi Finals
Djokovic has become mentally fragile in the majors, IMO, due to the three failed attempts to beat Nadal in Paris(2012-14) and achieve his 'Holy Grail'.
Djokovic is obsessed with beating Nadal to win the French Open, and in failing to do so multiple times, he'd now doubting himself. With time the sound may get larger.

Djokovic uses his experience to pull him through the tiebreaker and Djokovic is a set away from a place in the Wimbledon Final.

+1
Djoko should have finished it in straights if not for his mini mental lapse in the mid 2nd set.

The thing is though, can you really market a guy called Grigor as an international sports star? He needs a nickname - like "G-man".

Djoko breaks as Dimi loses his service action. The final slot grows nearer.

Re: Wimbledon Day 11 - Men's Semi Finals
I was LMAO when Banbro claimed DImitrov's game is the best of the tournament and no body could beat him, really all based on 1 set? that too given we all know Djoko has mental lapse in the mid of the game for a few minutes?
Dimitrov is a wasted talent.
