Watching Fights in Vegas in Bars Empty Watching Fights in Vegas in Bars

Post by Valero's Conscience Thu Jul 17, 2014 10:40 pm

Worst title ever but.....

I'm in Vegas for the Mayweather-Maidana 2 fight but wasn't able to get tickets.

Has anyone here been to Vegas on fight night and watched the fights in bars? If so do bars play it for free or are there big venues where you pay admission and if so is there a well known place for this?

Any advice appreciated.

Check to see if the MGM are showing the fight. You'll get all the big fight atmosphere.

There are very few bars that are not in hotels/casinos. You might have to try Old Vegas to find a bar as the strip is all hotels/casinos.

I thought "Floyd May Weather the Maidana Storm" was a worse title.

Know someone that just happened to be over there when Mayweather was fighting Alvarez and said they had a difficult time finding a place showing it. Possibly due to MGM having exclusive rights or something.

Not very helpful but I was in Vegas a week or so before the Mayweather vs Alvarez fight and was shocked at how little promotion and publicity there was for it, Marquez vs Bradley had big posters everywhere and promotions on big screens but you wouldn't have known Mayweather was fighting if you just walked down strip.

I've heard Vegas can be reality inexpensive for food, drink and accommodation etc. Anyone who's been there for a fight able to shed any light on this, for example do they up the prices when an event is on (as they do in Cardiff for 6 nations).

If the rumours are true about Cotto Canelo being there next summer, me and a few mates are debating it.

And no, before anyone asks, I'm not only thinking about Vegas because I'm watching 'Miss congeniality 2: armed and fabulous'. What? Nobody was asking?

I guess this was because the Mayweather fight was being held at the MGM, and the other casinos on the strip didn't want to promote an event at a rival. I stayed at the MGM a fortnight before he fought Guerrero last year and couldn't fail to miss all the promotion in the hotel!

Miss Congeniality 2 does not hold up to the original.

The only real difference in Vegas is between mid week hotel  rates and weekend rates. Rates can double and triple.  There are still plenty of affordable places. Around Caesars/Planet Holiday is the best place to stay imo.  The Bally, The Flamingo or Bills Gambling Hall are value, the Flamingo has a big pool area. Planet Holiwood or Paris are mid range, Planet Hollywood is a good party hotel and has loads of facilities.  Wynn's, the Bellagio, the Aria and the Cosmopolitan are the top hotels. Can't beat Caesars for me though, old school class in the casino. The pool at Caesars is really classy.

If you're young and just want a place to put your head down go for a location near Planet Holiwood and you're in the middle of things. You only sleep a few hours a night in Vegas anyway and you can walk into any hotel/ casino even with a drink in your hand bought elsewhere.  The only door policy is at night clubs.

Just be careful of the sex, drugs and rock n' roll.
