Any and all discussion of things rugby-related is welcome. Restaurant recommendations are openly sought. Introductions to eligible young people would be fantastic. Bullying, jingoism, and wang-measuring is not on.
We need to move forwards not backwards, upwards not forwards, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

RDW_Scotland wrote:JonnyEdinburgh wrote:RDW_Scotland wrote:JonnyEdinburgh wrote:Haha, thanks again to everyone for such a warm welcome - even from those of you way out west.
Congratulations FES also, although I'm a newby I have stalked this forum for so long I feel I know you anyway. Cheers!
So out of all of the things that have happened in Scottish rugby in the last year or however long you have been watching, Edinburgh beating Munster is the thing that persuaded you to come out the woodwork??
Haha, good point, the timing of my appearance doesn't reflect well on my credentials admittedly! In my defence I signed up last Thursday with every intention to begin posting once the season started and with the Edinburgh Fans Forum being broken at the minute I figured I'd take the plunge on here. Don't worry, I won't be one of those troll-type-glory-hunters who crawls back into the woodwork next week when Connacht put a BP on us.
Well you've got a lot of catching up to do - what's your view on the following:
-The lack of Scottish representation in the Lions
-The Vern Cotter employment farce
-Our woeful 6N performance (i'll let you pick which one)
-Scott Johnson's team selections
-Kelly Brown's best position
-Richie Vernon's move to 13
-Vern Cotter's first games in charge
-Your opinion on every Edinburgh signing and player departing in the summer
-Is Stuart Hogg really a very naughty boy or just miss-understood?
-Is Mark Bennett really the second coming, messiah, and saviour of Scottish rugby?
Answer those and you'll have just about passed the initiation!
All you will need to do then is make a joke about ASBO's age, FES' privileged Stockbridge lifestyle, snuck an opinion about independence on here, made a joke about Glaswegians, soap and stabbings and deciphered one of 21st Schitzoid's posts (again - I'll let you choose) and you'll be a fully fledged Scottish poster!
That's a brutal initiation! But still it's preferable to doing work so here goes:
- Deservedly so, though if they all return with an "attitude problem" like Hoggy it's probably just as well.
- Better late than never, when he leads the team to victory on English soil next year the 13/14 farce will be forgiven and forgotten.
- See below
- Don't get me started. That bunch of "kids" were close to our best in a decade I'd say, but Joker Johnson thought he was auditioning for the fringe instead.
- You've got me here - having been a meagre 12/13 I still struggle with the intimacies of the back row. I did hear on the grapevine that he was, is and always will be a 7 and nothing else though haha.
- Vernon seems to be doing ok, think he'll struggle for a game before long given the competition...we could do with a world class 10 though.
-Benefit of the doubt - it was a silly tour anyway.
- Apparantly every scottish one has great potential but all the others are journeymen aren't they?! In all seriousness I was pleased. As long as Solomans stays true to his pledge to feed the young Scots through this year all is well. I did like De Luca though :-(
- He is from Hawick, he's a naughty boy! (I'm from Langholm).
- Just wait until our beloved Strauss skins Bennett to win the 1872 Cup, then we'll be on the lookout for a new saviour (again).
How did I do in part one?
Might save the insults for now, and feed them in gradually over time - I don't want to burn my bridges on here (or on 18th for that matter)

I feel that as supporters of Scottish rugby, that title is one which unites us all! :-)
Ps the discussion on the independance thread is by far the clearest, most honest and (largely) respectful one I've seen anywhere. I have pointed a few 'unsure' friends and family there who were sick of blatant spin from both camps so for that I salute you asbo!

So it's Connacht v The MFL in a top of the table clash? Followed by Scotland taking control of it's own destiny later in the week!
Whatever next? Fes putting the family allowance in the kitty for the end of season bevvy session?
For those of you younger than ASBO that would be Child Benefit.
End of season : when the creeping feelings of disappointment are temporarily replaced by groundless optimism (in the east), or the day Bru and Schiz try to decide if these play offs are worth the hangovers (western domiciled posters only).

Any volunteers to do an Edinburgh-Connacht match thread?

Glasgow signing news coming up apparently. Probably just the re-signing of someone, but I live in hope of something more earth shattering. This time of year is perfect for a Super Rugby players.
Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread V - The Fun Continues
Yep, Peter Horne has signed a new 3yr deal. Good news, but a bit like getting the same Christmas present you got last year - which in my case is my gran sending me size small y-fronts (what's she trying to say?!).

Had a wander down to Murrayfield today to pick up this season's top and must say the revamped Macron shop looks much improved. Good range and some nice looking stuff. Picked up a puffa style jacket as well which looks suitably warm for the winter.
Bring on tomorrow night first home game of the season.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread V - The Fun Continues
Hey folks! OK, brief update on the running, if you're not too bored with it by now!
Well, I finished the Great North Run on Sunday in 2:11:16, and considering that this is my first half-marathon, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I ran the whole way (which is not something I'd expected to be able to do), though I missed my dad's record by fifteen minutes. I'm currently using the 21ºc heat as an excuse! I was pretty comfortable with my pace for the first ten miles, then I really attacked in the last three. I'm pretty sure I've got more in my tank, so I'm hoping to bring the time down a fair bit.
I want to say a massive thanks to Jim, Asbo, FES, Schiz, RDW, and George for your fantastic donations. I was grateful before the race, but it really is good, when you're five miles in and your ankle starts to ache, that you've got something tangible to live up to and drive you on!
Anyway, thanks again guys, and here's a lovely picture of me and my sister.

Well done Bru my son. Being able to run for 2 hours boggles my mind.
In case you still think for a moment that you might have received the looks in the family, I am now in a position to disabuse you of that notion.
If you do a full marathon, my contribution will increase by at least a quid.

Bru, just like the Schizoid one; your carer is much less likely to startle passing horses than you are.
I sometimes wonder why I socialise with you seeing how I'm the handsome one in my family.
By the way; upon enlarging the photie I was struck by the collection of rabbits resting on your upper lip. Or are they hares?
Well done on the run, "I'm proud of you Buzz"

Justified Shopper, how, how in the name of the wee man can I pastiche/send up/ridicule the MFL and their claret swilling quail's eggs scoffing Bullingdon wannabees ever again? Nothing but nothing would be as funny as this episode of Confessions and Memoirs of a Justified Shopper. When you die we won't bury you we'll sell your organs on QVC.

Just been watching hjighlights of the new Australian rugby championship which has been created to be the Australian version of the currie cup and itm cup.
Quite a good standard and some very exciting games.
What I did notice was a few scottish players playing.
Nick Fraser the ex boroughmuir and scotland u20s prop playing for north harbour rays who looked very good and seemed to be getting talked up highly.
A few other players with very scottish sounding names so might be worth a watch and also for recruitment.

Yes my friend - Galloway is an utter gnob ! Nearly as bad as Fatso Prescott - who put in his usual toe - curlingly thick performance in Rutherglen last Wednesday. A moron through and through.

Not going to happen as he has just been carried off with a bad looking knee injury! A shame really as he had looked quite sharp when he came on to replace Goode. Definitely got the Wasps back line going.

When he signed for Wasps, I spoke to a Wasps supporting colleague about his pros and cons, with the obvious con his kicking. He's made me look like a right prat so far.

Fair point, I mentioned that his kicking is probably the weakest part of his game and if it goes to pot he can be very inconsistent.

Jackson is still 10 times the player that Heathcote is and will ensure he gets the third or maybe 2nd FH berth at the RWC behind Russell and Weir (who looked bang back on form yesterday).

Ah good to see that its not taken long for heathcoat to be tarred with the 'he plays for Edinburgh therefore he's completely gash' brush!
Cause of course 2 games is enough to know that 22 year old heathcoat is rubbish.

RDW, Heathcoate may actually be a very good 10 but the problem will be that playing in a losing team week in week out will inevitably colour the way balanced, objective, dispassionate rugby watchers such as El Schizo view him.

Just to be clear, I didn't mean to imply that Jackson isn't a good player, all i was saying is that his kicking can be suspect and when it goes wrong it tends to impact the rest of his game.
I'm sure even the most die hard Jackson fan would, i hope, agree with that.
Not sure about Weir though. I think there are better options, but he might get a spot, but he would be 3rd choice at very best. However, if he gets a run in the Glasgow team and improves then maybe.

EWT what you have to appreciate is that anyone who plays/ has played for Glasgow is world class and anyone else is rubbish. This is the world according to Jimbo and Schiz.

Totally unjustified, you serial shopper that you are: Byron McGuigan
I rest my case.
Mind you he'd probably look really creative and incisive in the current MFL three quarters right now.

I thought Weir was really going to come good but he didn't take his chance last season. I think he needs to go to a small club as first choice and get the game time he needs - he simply has not played enough

Before someone else says it......Edinburgh!
In all seriousness I can't see Glasgow letting him go. They only really have him and Finn (I think), so he’s going to be getting fairly regular game time for them this season I would imagine.

There's an A game between Glasgow and Edinburgh on Monday, in Stirling. Game kicks off at 5pm and entry is free.

That's a good thing to see.
However I suspect it will mean one of two things:
- The pro players will not be released to the clubs on Saturday, which would be a shame
or
- They will play on Saturday, and will have to play again on the Monday - increasing the chance of injury, and reducing the quality and meaningfulness of the match as the players won't be fresh.

It'll be interesting seeing the line ups for that A game. Some talented players needing some game time, as well as Simon Berghan and Ben Atiga.

Players need higher level than the club games, these A games go some way to bridge the gap.
Maitland and Finn Russell are supposed to be playing some part which would mean they aren't involved tomorrow.

Would a cobbled together A game really be a higher level than proper 'teams' playing against each other in the Premiership?
p.s. kind of feels weird talking about rugby after what has just happened.
p.p.s I'm going to have to stop making jokes about Fife so much since they voted No!

A comparatively low turnout in Glasgow was interesting. You'd think that the self proclaimed soul of Scotland and home of world class rugby players would have at least had the gumption to turn up and vote, but apparently they had better and more important things to do. That White Lightening won't drink itself.....
