Surrey vs Worcestershire LV=County Championship

Surrey have named a thirteen man squad for the LV=County Championship game against Worcestershire at New Road starting on Tuesday.
Jade Dernbach and Matthew Dunn return to the Championship squad after playing in the recent three day game against New Zealand A. Chris Tremlett is unavailable due to a shoulder injury and Dominic Sibley has not been considered because of a thumb injury.
kp misses out because the club dont think we can get promoted

I do wonder if that's it now for Pietersen with Surrey and in this country - have posted more on the separate "KP" thread.

Surrey though more than keen to select Vik Solanki who is several years Pietersen's senior. Writing does seem to be on the wall imo.

Not his biggest fan, but it's a shame if he never plays in England again. Was an entertainer, but with his technique and injury issues too, he might not have too long left in the game at all.

Hoping to get to New Road at some point for this, but then again, quite tempted to listen to it on the radio instead as I imagine Bradders and the two Surrey chaps(had a temporary mind blank on names) are great entertainment.

So the youngsters Solanki and Batty are selected ahead of Harinath in a rather meaningless (for us!) match.

Morning all! On a "post festival recovery day off" from work today so have the joys of listening to Bradders & Church's coverage of the first day. The Surrey side, as always, looks very imposing on paper and the pitch looks an excellent deck according to the radio.

Worcester are 59/2 after the first hour having won the toss. Skipper Mitchell went 4th ball of the day to Dernbach before Moeen Ali and Hipster's cricketer of the year Richie Oliver put on 59 in 10 overs before the Shropshire Swisher picked out deep square leg when on 23 from 24 balls. Intriguing contest this one...

50 up for Moeen Ali at New Road, off 71 balls. Then bowled two balls later for 54 by an inswinger from Dunn. Big scalp, Worcester wobbling.

A cracking morning's entertainment with Moeen and extras keeping Worcester in it!

133-6 has now become 204-6 - come on Surrey, don't let it slip again!

59 for 0 at stumps i think we all would have settled for that when worcestershire won the toss this morning

An interesting competition going on between Batty and Dunn as to who ends the season as Surrey's leading CC wicket taker. Both currently on 37.

70 for Joe Leach today. A hugely improved cricketer this year, and has benefitted from Worcs showing some faith in him and giving him a run in the side. Averaging 20 with the bat (before today) and 26 with the ball in his first full season of FC stuff. Good effort lad.

Pleased to see another solid reply by Burns and Ansari.  Hope Dunn thrives on his new three year contract.

Hi Goochie - yes, a good session. We're moving the game on and looking like we'll have a useful lead. I'll leave it to JimBob to count the bonus points ....

Goochie - the Roy Wonder on 37 now at a run a ball. We're going to get a lead but how much? Feel we're certainly in a strong position now.

We should be looking at 400+ and full bonus points by the end of today. That'd be a 150ish lead, I don't see much point in batting on after that!

400+ currently looking very much on although a couple of quick wickets would change that. Hopefully, these two can carry on towards stumps ....

406 all out - lost the last 6 for 33 runs with Barry, Meaker and Dunn all getting ducks. Dernbach helped Roy over the line.

As Goochie suggested, the fifth wicket partnership between Wilson and Roy was crucial. Fortunately from a Surrey viewpoint, they put on well over a hundred before the team crashed from 373/4 to 406 all out. A ton for Roy but 3 tailend ducks.  

We're still in a good position but it should be better ....

As someone has commented on the wallpaper site, disappointing though that we allowed Worcs to get max bowling points. Could just make a difference to final placings.

Another spectacular collapse by Surrey, luckily we'd built a decent lead by then! Hopefully Clive and Meaker's radars aren't too off target, or we could have forfeited that lead by lunch!

A good morning session for Surrey. The hosts have almost achieved parity but they've lost 4 wickets in doing so. Both the openers again falling to Dernbach and a couple for Batty including Ali.

We must surely win from here. Maybe even today ....

in effect, 15-5 as I type, I'm liking guildford's new found confidence! I won't be jumping any guns til it's well in the bag though!

Captaincy seems a little uninspired again - why not give Ansari a bowl rather than 20+ overs from Batty? Why not try Roy, Burns or Solanki for an over or two? What's the betting we lose this one?
