Surrey have named a 14 man squad for the LV=Insurance County Championship game against Worcestershire starting on Sunday 23rd June at New Road.
Spencer Johnson extends his stay and is available for this week’s fixture against Worcestershire.
James Taylor has been named in a red ball squad for the first time this season.
There is still no update on Tom Lawes

Don't know who from overseas might be available for Essex next week - the tougher game by far - but suspect Stewie is actively working on it.

Shoaib Bashir is on loan to Worcs from Somerset and should play tomorrow. When we played against the Cidermen at the Oval, we allowed him to bowl getting on for 40 overs in our first dig at an economy of only 2 runs each. That significantly contributed to our running out of time to get the win. We mustn't allow Bashir to settle like that in this game.

Smith and Sibley have started to turn things round and got us to a useful position at lunch with the scoreboard on 105/2. However, important they keep going. A couple of quick wickets after the restart and the Pears would be on top again.

Don't understand the Taylor selection he's not pulling up any trees in the 2nd XI, surely would have been better to play Patel and strengthen the batting line up

A rare chance for me to watch Surrey in the city where I now live and a very enjoyable day’s play it was too.

The main reason I’m commenting on here though is to tell you that Tom Lawes had a session in the nets and when I spoke to him in the bar (he was having a soft drink) he told me he was close to being fit again.

It will be nice to have him back.

A good day's work after a sloppy start, slight disappointment that we came to a standstill after the new ball was taken, and 4 batting points will be our maximum, and we still need a bit of work to get to that, but certainly in a strong position

375/6 from 105 overs.

25 needed off the next 5 for a 4th batting point. Possible but looks a bit steep.

Astonishingly inept from Surrey this morning, just about 4 an over from 14 needed, and the dopes came nowhere near to it, bonus points at a premium with Essex being so close, but don't tell our clueless captain that

390/7 off 110 as Surrey miss out on a 4th batting point.

We never seemed sure whether to stick or twist in that first hour as shown by Abbott playing a few dot balls to Taylor's bowling and then skittled as he attempted a mighty heave off the final ball of that over.

Foakes with the lowest scoring rate (bar Burns' duck). He got 52 off 118 balls which tbf is more valuable than, say, 12 off 12 but still leaves me frustrated.

Yeah. JimBob said Taylor hasn't been pulling up trees in the seconds and that's right. However, he hasn't gone for many either. Once Johnson was pulled out, I could understand him coming in although I wasn't expecting him to do as well as he did. In a full day's play, I thought he might bowl around 10 to 12 overs going around 3 each and maybe picking up a wicket. Useful to have a fifth seamer available in this hot weather, especially as we'll now probably be looking to enforce the follow on.

All in all, a good day although I still feel we blew a batting point.

Took until almost lunchtime to get the remaining 3 first dig Worcs wickets but we finally got there and enforced the follow on. Right choice I reckon but it's going to be hard yakka in this weather.

Those late wickets have given us a good chance now, a long old day bowling but hopefully return refreshed in the morning to finish the job, and hope Durham haven't messed up!

Got there in the end, and without having to bat again. Feet up for the bowlers now til the big one starts on Sunday, looks like Essex are likely to get a draw now

Yep, good to not only get the win but also to do so with 2 sessions to spare.

No idea who or how many we'll lose to England for the Essex game but have every confidence that JimBob won't be happy! At least, Lawes should be back at last. Maybe McKerr in the squad too if his loan spell at Yorks is over - he picked up 5 match wickets as Yorks beat Gloucs by an innings yesterday.
