Verona 3-1 Basel
(Assombalonga, Sturridge, Castaignos – Delgado)
Different set ups from the two teams and whilst I can see Basel’s central spine having the majority of the possession I can’t see them posing as much of a threat in the box. I have an issue with the commands to Basel’s wingbacks with the statement for them to play a reserved game yet in the same sentence to then get forward constantly and ‘bomb in a pair’. For me this is Basel’s downfall, firstly the mixed signals and secondly against the class and speed of Verona’s wings I think they’d be caught out and once losing to an early goal through Verona’s early push then they are ripe for more. I’m also concerned as what the instruction to Campbell to ‘dirty wide’ could be and hope it’s not akin to Lineker at Italia 90.
Bordeaux 2-0 PAOK
(Quintero, Lacazette)
Nando’s got a nice core of players at his disposal but I wonder if he’s gone a tad top heavy with both Drogba and Bojan having to sit on the bench. Alonso controls the game whilst Quintero shows his class in the hole.
Bremen 0-0 Palermo
Miky makes it quite apparent he’s aware of Palermo’s pacey attack and that his players are making themselves available for the ball, I do though like the balance to Miky’s team, despite the injury to Badstuber in RL the defence of Bremen is the best in the league and I think they’ll shut down the opposition, unfortunately for Miky though his attack doesn’t quite match up and it results in a stalement with both sides nullifying the opponents.
Genk 1-2 Montpellier
(Ibrahimovic – Origi, Ward Prowse)
Can Montpeiller’s defence stop Ibra? No, but at the same time I also cannot see Genk’s defence holding out either. The instructions to the WBs for Genk to get forward at every opportunity combined with the lack of speed in Genk’s central core and aging legs leaves me concerned they’re open to Pirlo and Clasie’s passrates with the youthful and energetic attack quartet dragging them apart. Their energy begins to dissipate as the game advances and Genk look for an equaliser but the introduction of Kehl to park the bus frustrates Treb’s team to hold onto the victory.
Getafe 3-4 Granada
(Son x2, Berabtov, - Berardi x2, Brahimi, Streller)
Both sides clearly exploit the weaknesses of the other to good effect in what is the game of the day. Viva’s centrebacks would struggle to catch Oscar Pistorius without his blades whilst Son instructed to come inside against a young Jedvaj allows him to put on a show. With Xavi being zonal marked it does allow him to put on a masterclass in the centre of the pitch.

Delph--Behrami
Castaignos------------------Sterling
ASSOMBALONGA-Sturridge
Overview:
Injuries have forced into a reshuffle this week, so we're going to play an attacking 4-4-2 with an emphasis on getting the ball out to our playmakers on the wing with a slightly deeper pair in the middle than the norm. We want to get on the front foot early, set a high tempo and prevent our opponents settling, hopefully drawing some mistakes
Attacking:
Find Castaignos and Sterling as often as possible on the wing, get them running at their man, use both the inside and outside avenues to beat your man and dribble into a dangerous area. Assombalonga should sit on the last man, looking to make runs in behind the defense, while Sturridge drops a little deeper and aims to link up with the wingers and midfield. Wingers should swap sides throughout the match to keep the defense unsettled. Delph to join attacks from deeper, while the FBs look to provide overlaps.
Defending:
Delph to be the engine room in midfield, expect to get through a lot of closing down and running, while Behrami acts more deeper and looks to protect the back 4. Reid to take any main striker, while De Vrij reads the game or picks up a second striker. Wingers should track back most of time, but occassionally stay high up the pitch and see if we can catch them on the counter.

Some thing dofferent today
Defence; Lovern will sit centeral and take up the main striker, he will commands and boss around the back 3 the other center halves will mop up whatever's left over. Wether thata be loose balls or a second striker
WBs: both will play a reserved game , get forward constantly and look to bomb in a pair, force there wide men back,
Midfield, Eleny and blind will sit deep and control the midfield, keep the play I front and encourage long ball tactics, look to snuff out any attack thru the middle, Frei will play a high energy box to box game look be be very where,Delgado will sit central and run the game, he will receive and either look to give out wide or slide and a striker , he will move around in the central role dragging there midfield with him to create space for an advance Frei and Canpbell
ST: Campbell will look to move around and make runs behind the defence, he will also dirty wide to offer a wide threat. When this happens Delgado and Frei will go box.

Team Talk: Up against the Enigma that is Olly. Will he turn up? Who knows but he has a decent side when he does so shall look to negate Grenier & Finnbogason
Defensive Tactics
- Laporte to get tight to Finnbogason and look to stop him getting shots away and make sure if he tries to roll you make sure you get the ball first. Laporte to challenge in the air as Finnbogason isn't that tall.
- Manolas to clear up behind Laporte if Finnbogason manages to turn Laporte and get away from him, I want you to watch for the no.10 making late runs into the box
- Jung & Maxwell to force the wingers down the line and make them cross it, Don't let them cut inside.
- Alonso to sit in the gap marshalling infront of the defense to try and stop the supply into Grenier/Finnbogason
- Wingers to get up and down and track the full backs if go forwards
Attacking Tactics
- Full backs to get up the pitch and whip balls in when overlapping the wingers
- Narsingh & Mcgeady to use their pace and trickery to get at the full backs and look to link with Quintero
- Alonso to dictate from deep looking for balls over the defense for Wingers/Lacazette or into Quintero with Jojic going box to box and making late runs into the box
- Quintero to sit in the gap between defense and midfield and drift about looking for space, Look to play in the wingers when get behind the full back & Lacazette when makes his run
- Lacazette to sit on Marquez and look to roll him and use his electric pace to get in behind. Welcome to drift wide to get the ball and look to run in between RB/Stones
Subs: Bojan/Drogba for Mcgeady/Lacazette if losing after 80 mins

There is no doubting that Palmero are a quality side and we need to respect that but at the same time we are not going to sit back and be played off the park because we are capable of winning this game for sure. They played a fast paced game with high pressure on the ball last week and I want us to be weary of that from the start.
Defensive Instructions: Defensively today I want us to very balanced overall, we are playing a 4-1-4-1 formation with 2 blocks of 4 with a protective player in between the 2 blocks which will be Stambouli. The 5 in midfield should allow for us to maintain possession and frustrate Palmero by not allowing them to play their game. The back 4 will stay as a defensive block and watch for the pacey runs and passes coming through – Stay alert at all times. They like to move the ball with pace so we need to stay on our toes and look to cut the ball out as much as we can.
Attacking Instructions: Today we are going to look to have the ball as much as we can to frustrate Palmero and make them work for the ball. I want us to be patient in our build up play and look to play accurate passes throughout the pitch, working the ball forward when the opportunity arises. I want us to attack but I want us to do it in a controlled way in which we won’t get caught out on the counter attack. Vilhena I want you to be our master controller today and always have your head on a swivel and look to play people in as much as possible. Petersen I want you to always make yourself available for the ball and look to bring others into the game and at the same time. Stambouli I want you to always look to make yourself available for the ball.
Subs:
Di Santo on for Petersen 70th Minute.
Kroos on for Stambouli 80th Minute.
Buffel on for Kishna 90th Minute.

Emenike
Overview
We want to attack from the off today and to look to control the ball and dominate possession and territory. We’re going with a fluid attacking midfield trio who have licence to swap positions and look for the ball in space.
Defence
Flat back four with both centre halves sitting in and not being dragged away by forwards moving. Good communication essential and whenever they commit men to the penalty box they are to be picked up as well as those coming from deeper.
The full backs are to stand off and slow their attacks down to allow us to get back into shape.
Schneiderlin will be our ball winner in the middle and Pardo will sit alongside and look to nick the ball away or position for the interception. Both will cover for their full backs if we’re broken on quickly.
Attack
The three attacking midfielders will be interchanging positions and looking to combine among themselves with quick, short passes and movement off the back of defenders.
Emenike will stay as a spearhead and be available over the top for passes and as a physical presence for crosses.
Pardo will conduct our attacks from deeper and the full backs will press high to both get crosses in and give the opposition wingers problems in tracking them back.

TACTICS
Expecting to be against a 4-5-1/4-3-3 today, so we have the 5 at the back to counter them, and two in attack. Look to quickly counter and get in 2v2 situations with our strikers and their centre backs.
De Sanctis - Save shots
Aurier/Corchia - Get forward at every opportunity to stretch their defense.
Barzagli - Man-mark Remy, closing him down quickly so he can't get a shot away.
Dier/Caldirola - Hold the defensive line preventing runs from the supporting midfield.
Toulalan/Fletcher - Shield the defense, Toulalan should pass the ball providing creativity.
Lampard - Box to box role, look to do your typical runs into the box, shots from the edge of the area.
Welbeck - Run across the defense, looking to use your pace. Get in Pirlo's face and win the ball when not in possession.
Ibrahimovic - Lead the line, be a target man in the box.

MONTPELLIER v Genk
Injuries: Jon Flanagan, Nabil Bentaleb, DeAndre Yedlin
Starting XI: Julian Speroni, Julien Faubert, Mikel San Jose, Samuel Umtiti, Jetro Willems, Andrea Pirlo, Jordy Clasie, James Ward-Prowse, Lewis Holtby, Divock Origi, Loic Remy
---------------Speroni
Faubert - San Jose - Umtiti - Willems
-------------Pirlo - Clasie
Ward-Prowse---------------Holtby
-------------Origi - Remy
Subs: Geoffrey Jourdren, Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, Hugo Campagnaro, Sebastian Kehl, Ibrahim Afellay, Viktor Fischer, Zakaria Bakkali
A tough game against Genk but we're going to surprise them with a 4-2-2-2 system, a solid back four with two playmaking DM's ahead of them, Ward-Prowse and Holtby playing as wide midfielders but with the ability to roam wherever they are required, and two strikers to give their defence a real game. Pirlo and Clasie will dictate possession and utilise the movement of Ward-Prowse and Holtby, as well as the front two who will be making plenty of runs down the channels and centrally.
Defence: Speroni to stay big for one on ones and distribute to Pirlo/Clasie. San Jose to track Ibrahimovic, beat him to any passes towards him and force him to drop deeper to frustrate him, Umtiti to be the first to any second balls. If they play a second striker, Umtiti to mark him and Clasie and Pirlo to track any AM. In possession supply Pirlo/Clasie. Faubert and Willems to overlap the wingers going forward and get crosses into the front two. Make sure you get back into position ASAP to avoid being caught out. Defensively force their wingers wide and block the crosses. Don't let them cut inside.
Midfield: Pirlo/Clasie sit infront of the back four, get the ball and look to supply the front four. Clasie will be the protection, playing as a DM/CM who will give cover to Pirlo but is also capable of retaining possession and giving Pirlo a close option in possession if being closed down. Ward-Prowse and Holtby will play in free roles, drop alongside Pirlo and Clasie to make two banks of four when we're defending, but in possession be the ones who support the front two, making runs into the area from deep and linking the play.
Attack: Remy/Origi to mark the deepest Genk defender, use your height and pace to worry their defenders, drift wide to drag defenders with you, to allow Ward-Prowse and Holtby to make runs down the middle into space for Pirlo/Clasie to pick them out. Both of you more than capable of scoring and assisting, so get shots in where you can and look for your teammate in a better position. Switch positions on occasion to keep the Genk players guessing and drag them out of position.
Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Origi off, Kehl on. Switch to 4-5-1 with Kehl an extra DM, and Ward-Prowse/Holtby to wide midfield. Absorb pressure then look for Remy on the counter.
-------------------Speroni
----Faubert - San Jose - Umtiti - Willems
Ward-Prowse - Kehl - Pirlo - Clasie - Holtby
--------------------Remy
If drawing: No change, continue the same gameplan.
If losing: Willems and Clasie off, Fischer and Afellay on. Change to 3-1-4-2; Push for goals.
------------------Speroni
--------Faubert - San Jose - Umtiti
--------------------Pirlo
Afellay - Ward-Prowse - Holtby - Fischer

Team Talk: Today were looking to be the aggressive side that take the game to the opposition, we will look to attack the space out wide and pack the centre, I want my wingers to come inside forcing the FB to play narrow giving our FB space to cross. Buffon is missing so I want us to test Fernández with some early shots.
DEFENSIVE TACTICS
My FB to keep the opposition wingers on the outside so they're forced to cross from deep which I feel my CB are stronger in air. Terry to pick up main striker while Distin uses his pace to cover in behind. The 2 CM to sit in front of the back 4 using zonal marking to pick up the men in their area, Kramer to be more aggressive and close them down forcing them back and Ledesma to shield, block and intercept. Mirallas and Son have to go out wide when defending tracking the FB.
ATTACKING TACTICS
One FB to push up at a time look to get balls into box varying your crosses, Ledesma is the playmaker from deep look to keep the ball ticking and to play in the wingers in behind, Kramer keep it simple with your passes, one of you can push forward when we are attacking giving us another option. Mirallas and Son play narrow when we are on the attack overloading their defence, be direct and run at them getting into the box both of you are a goal threat. Totti your role is to play the killer ball into the attackers slipping them in using your creativity and also have a shot at goal. Di Natale play as a predator look for openings play within 18 yard boz always stay on the move.

Overview: I'm playing a good old-fashioned 4-4-2 today with two banks of 4 and the two strikers expected to put in a shift against Getafe's CBs. The main aim will be getting the ball to the strikers - whether that's a result of wingers crossing in from the flanks, cutting inside and looking for the short pass or by direct play from the CBs/CMs I'll leave that up to the players. What we're going for is plenty of variety in and around the opposition penalty box.
Defending: I expect Roncrete to pick up the main Getafe striker (possibly Di Natale) and to keep him out of the game but the main idea will be to stop the service. I also expect the FBs to force the Getafe wingers inside, forcing them to pick out a short pass and then a combination of Motta and the two CBs to come down on them like a ton of bricks. Should Getafe play two strikers then I want one CB picking up one striker with Motta handling any deep runs from CMs or wingers cutting inside.
Attacking: I'm looking for my players to exploit the lack of pace of the Getafe CBs. We're never going to beat them physically so with meticulous, quick passing we'll go around them rather than through them. My FBs will be expected to assist on the counter attack but stay back when we have the ball and when we're getting forward slowly. Getafe will no doubt have in place a plan for Xavi; if there's a man sticking to him then we'll bypass the central route and keep the play mostly on the wings.
