Re: Benetton Treviso v Glasgow Warriors, 5 October
Cracking game. Congatulations for Treviso for making it so - they tried to win not to keep the score down. Great work from Glasgow to come back from 10 nil down and to hold on at the end with 13.
Rugby is an entertainment business and that was entertaining. the most entertaining game of the weekend for me that I watched.
Treviso look much improved and how come they look like a team with heart despite getting beaten all the time when Edinburgh are the opposite?
Are Edinburgh the worst team in the league?

Re: Benetton Treviso v Glasgow Warriors, 5 October
I think we will get a better idea of where sides are when similar quality sides play each other. To be fair to Edinburgh, they were never likely to beat Ospreys or Ulster. They have looked much better against teams nearer there level, ie Connacht or Scarlet. We will see who is the worst team in the league at the end of the season and I don't think it will be Edinburgh.
It does seem though that there is still a big drop off between the top teams in the league and the rest. That makes the odd good result against them, ie by Edinburgh v Munster or Zebre v Ulster all the more impressive. These will be the results that decide the league at the end of the day, along with the bonus points. Happily Glasgow seemed to have rediscovered how to get them, even when not playing particularly well like today!

Edinburgh might not have been expected to win, however, with the investment from the SRU you would expect them to perform MUCH better, at least not be nilled.

Glasgow were nowhere near full strength, didn't play well for large parts, had only 13 for best part of 10 minutes and still Scored 6 tries. Treviso are awful at the moment.

Edinburgh are the worst team in the league by some distance imho, and that's from a ST holder. Why? Well we have no game plan for the backs apart from kick it back to the opposition. Despite having some talent there we have the lowest points for in the league and we don't actually have a backs coach!
I've been a Solomons supporter, but now is time for him and his other coaches to go.

Edinburgh are definitely the worst performing team in the league currently, but even in our darkest our I don't think we'll come bottom.
Absolutely no way we'll get top 6 though.

RDW, 60 points for in 5 games, we lost more than that in one game. We need to allow the backs to play, but that ain't gonna happen while Solomons is around. He thinks of them as tackle bots, much as he did with the Kings, who managed to win 3 matches in an SR season, coincidentally with Strauss at 12.

It would be madness to get rid of them now. You would just be committing yourselves to another two years of mediocrity with no guarantee of any success at the end of it. It is the inconsistency is that is so maddening, against Munster and in pre season they showed what they are capable of, How many of the lower ranked teams are going to win at Munster this year, not many I can assure you and yet the confidence has just evaporated away with the first few games.
One thing in Edinburgh's favour is that they are not going to be to troubled by international call ups at the moment, so should suffer no major disruptions in that time and may also managed to find some confidence playing weaker sides. They are clearly not ready to play in the full European cup either, so again may find their level in the second tier.
The conversation about the coaches future is one to be had the other side of Christmas not now. If things don't turn around then they will go but for now they need the chance and the support to improve things.

Worst attack in the league, i'm really starting to believe that Solomons tactics are totally outdated in today's game.

I disagree, you will not be surprised to hear. As long as we keep trying to play sterile 10 man rugby we will be useless and more importantly will add nothing to the Scottish national team.

I've said this before, but he's trying to play the same way that won the Boks the 2007 WC, now if we had Matfield and Burger at their prime we might be winning matches too, as it is we don't.

Treviso are not awful by any means. They played with heart, tested Glasgow and scored against them. Edinburgh are a simple shambles - Treviso are a weak team - the difference is in attitude and leadership. treviso play like they can win any game, Edinburgh play like they know they are going to lose.

To be fair Treviso did play with a bit of spirit today but they still got thrashed. Glasgow gave them 10 points straight off and then beat them easily despite an error ridden performance and never really getting out of third gear. Treviso have taken a few hammerings already this season and some of their supporters were walking out after Glasgow's 6th Try. You are judging them by today's performance, which despite getting hammered was probably one of their better ones. I would say that despite everything, Edinburgh almost certainly have more to take away from this season so far than Treviso.
I think the game against the Dragons next week will tell us an awful lot. Two teams that are struggling, lets see who has the spirit to try and make something of their season. If they don't turn up next week then I really would be worried. At the moment Edinburgh should not be comparing themselves with Ulster, Glasgow and Ospreys. They need to find their level, then seek to improve upon it.

Re: Benetton Treviso v Glasgow Warriors, 5 October
Was delighted with this. We'll know where we are in real terms against Ulster this week, but we've given everyone a hit out and everybody without exception has delivered, which is the key thing for this team. And for young Fagerson to come on and win a scrum penalty with a 6 man scrum and a centre pushing behind him makes me very proud indeed.
