What type of boxers do you like?
Personally I prefer the more outrageous guys. Those with the mouth and attitude who can also back it up. Guys like Ali, Duran, Hagler,Tyson, Mayorga (well he had the mouth and atitude and he did back it up to an extent), Paez, Naz, Pazienza, Jones, Floyd. The humble guys who wish the best of luck to their opponents and are always well mannered annoy the hell out of me.
DeGale and Haye just annoy me. Humourless buffoons imo.

Anyone who puts on a good show and shows genuine appreciation or the fans. Style doesn't matter so much as conveying a love for what they do.
I wonder if anyone will answer 'little Filipino ones'..?

Re: What type of boxers do you like?
I swear that when I read the title and saw the author I thought the thread would just say ' new ones. '
I like all styles, and I love to watch the masters of different styles going up against each other. As to personality, I pretty much take it with a pinch of salt, since I recognize that there's a lot of showbiz in boxing now, so we don't always know how real the public persona is.
Having said that, I couldn't bear the sight of Sugar Ray Leonard, unless he was actually doing his stuff in the ring.

Re: What type of boxers do you like?
I like allsorts of fighters but have for many years concentrated on the Heavyweights. In that I mean I would watch the contenders below the contenders.
Give me a Derrick Jeferson fight and I'm happy.
As for styles then I can go from Sugar Ray Leonard to Tommy Hearns to Marvin Hagler to Joe Calzaghe and Nigel Benn they all appeal to me.
Still learning and catching up on fighters of yester year but always loved the way Jack Johnson fought even if the tape maybe is out of sync.
Pretty sure I have some Harry Wills fights but struggling as my net speed is no good for download.

Something about Leonard that just annoyed me so much that I wanted everyone he fought to beat him badly. Amazing in the ring, but I found him an irritating tick.

Poetry for me was Ali gliding actoss the ring or Hagler, Duran and Tyson looking to rip their opponent apart. They seemed to love doing it. Their ferocity was a joy to watch coupled with their skill in delivering it.

That was man against boy. Davey took a terrible beating. It probably ended his career after what 12 fights?

Top be honest I haven't seen Haye in an exciting fight. He reminds me of Eubank post Watson. Talks a good fight but hardly delivers one.

A lot of people name Duran as their fav fighter but they refuse to except his limited skill set. Yes he was exciting but as I have famously stated before on the old 606 Duran was nothing more then a "Glorified bar brawler" but a very good 1. The second Leonard fight exposed the myth.
sorry.

Limited skillset? Duran probably had the best defensive skills for a swarming boxer. Offensively he was savage and none were better. The first Leonard fight saw to that.

Stop it Jack/Balti, just don't go there. He actually said both Hide and Bruno would dispatch Jeffries in double quick time, or something along those lines anyway!

Same here. Used to love watching Chavez slowly and meticulously breaking someone down. Great fighter. Ricardo Lopez as well. One of the most complete boxers I have ever seen. Footwork was just out of this world. Little guy but massive talent. My interest in the extreme lighter weights has waned a touch since "El Finito" retired.
Watching Ali around 1964 (not live of course) is just amazing, such a smooth motion and speed of hand, foot and mind completely in sync.
Duran in the same bracket as JCC. Hearns was great to watch as well, the destructive power allied to the chance of been floored and stopped himself was intoxicating.
But, my favourite to watch, leaving aside how bad or good you think he was, is Joe Louis. He combinations were delivered in an almost poetic nature but with a viciousness I have rarely seen. He just seemed so composed and ready to seperate someone from their senses at a moments notice.

No chance, Tino.
Why, Quarry was twenty years older, doncha know ? Think of the huge technological advances, the natural evolution, whereby Hide is 21.333333% stronger ; think of the radical thingummies of which Hide was a benificiary after man learned the secret of separating eggs ; think of the pullies and rowing machines, Nike trainers, organic boxing socks, HD hand bandages, colour hair gel, PPV heavy bags, carbon graphite skipping rope handles, lightweight gumshields, etc.

Re: What type of boxers do you like?
For me its Roberto Duran and also i loved watching Smokin Joe! the agressive come forward fighters never taking a backward step. Its the way they can make the ring look so small for their oppenents by cutting it off which impresses me. I dont think its fair to call Duran a Glorified bar brawler either! if you watch his fights his defence is crude but he was still very hard to hit cleanly and always had something coming back at you!
I think most types of fighters are good to watch as they all have better skills in diffrent departments, watching a skilled defensive boxer or a slcikster is just as impressive to me as a toe to toe stand and trade sort of fighter, its all about getting 2 fighters whos styles gel to show the best skills of both.

For me the perfect boxer for both inside and outside of the ring is Cotto.
Extremely humble outside of the ring, even in defeat and doesn't try and take PR opportunities at every chance and inside the ring entertains the fans and wears his heart on his sleeve.
