If I turn up to a press conference and my opponent doesn't because he's scared I'd slap him.........I'd love it........

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
I have to agree Soldier. To "bottle out" of a press conference only to get brave again via twitter is much too obvious.
I don't doubt for one second that this fight takes place. There's never going to be anything straight forward about what either of the Eubanks do in the build up but is that really a surprise? Saunders has said that this is all water off a duck's back and it doesn't effect him....in fact he's said this numerous time to numerous different reporters. That in itself will have an effect on him because it's all he'll be thinking about, much like it's all we're talking about.
I think it's comparable to John McEnroe and his tantrums on the court. His opponents would focus so much on not being effected by them that, without realising it, they were.
Meanwhile, Eubank Junior has probably been in the gym the whole time not really paying too much attention to any of this....

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
How do you know what Saunders is thinking.......
Stick to what we know.............Eubank said he didn't turn up because he was scared of a smack....Now no one knows if it's gamemanship or not but ;
1. If he's stayed in the gym.........Then Saunders trains in the afternoon after the press conference so he hasn't gained anything..
2. Saunders can choose to tell himself Eubank is intimidated and gain extra conference..
3. P**sing off the promoter and being unprofessional is a bit silly as he's a lengthy underdog and may need options...Especially as Hearn won't touch him..

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
I don't know what Saunders is thinking. I'm merely suggesting that giving this whole saga so much attention will likely detract from his focus to a certain degree.
You say stick to what we know but you say yourself that we don't know whether Eubank's "fear of a slap" was gamesmanship or not, so really we have absolutely no idea what Eubank's thought process has been through all of this. I agree that he's being unprofessional and he's low on options with promoters so he's not doing himself any favours. Also, I'm not suggesting that Eubank has intentionally not turned up in order to gain some extra time in the gym. What I'm saying is that the basic facts are arguably as follows:
1. Eubank Junior has left all of this commotion to his Dad and just carried on with his normal routine without distraction.
2. Saunders has interrupted his training and flown back from Marbella. Regardless of what he says, Junior's no show will have annoyed him.
I know who I'd rather be in these circumstances.

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
I don't know the answer to this, but is attendance at press conferences not a contractual obligation? Surely you would be under some legal obligation to promote the show by attending. If Warren was slow on paying Chris after the event I am sure we would hear about it and he would be rightly criticised, but the flip side of that is surely that everyone involved is obliged to do their bit.

However, like someone said before, people NOT turning up has caused more interest in the fight than people actually turning up when they're supposed to.
Someone should be writing a bonus cheque for Eubank

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
I think Eubank wins. No reason to believe that based on quality of opp, but Eubank seems to have a very good offensive skill-set, IMO. He does take too many punches versus low-end opponents, but I think his chin is decent and so long as he is active, he can beat BJS. I also feel BJS may begin to tire late on.

Maybe, but he has a very good offensive skill-set, or so it appears. Sometimes you have to go out on a limb and say you fancy that a fighter has the goods. I think Eubank might. 50-50 fight, but going for Eubank.

Engels Pedroza had a great offensive skill set in California in the 80s.......21-0 (21)

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
This is a reasonable point Truss, of more recent vintage Anthony Farnell looked a million dollars running himself to 20-0 or something similar, he then faced the might of Takaloo and was detached from his senses in a matter of minutes.
Not saying Eubank is another Farnell, but like you have alluded to when a guy has not fought anyone backing him with such confidence seems brave. I would not like to make a call on this fight. Used to quite rate Saunders, but he does not look like he has kicked on, suspect I would probably pick him on points in this one though. Think it is prudent in such affairs to pick the more known quantity.

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
Appreciate what Truss and Rowley are saying. I am just saying that I think Eubank is a better fighter than BJS. Faster hands, developing power, decent chin (I think). BJS has never really impressed me. I think Eubank shows his class. His dad fought bum after bum before he beat bigger names in his division. Time will tell, but I reckon Eubank has got the goods.

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
When Saunders first started out thought he had the goods and to a large degree still do; however as untested as Eubank in...and even that term I use lightly I too think he wins this one...and it's because of a reason I seem to factor in more and more with Warren's fighters these days; for me Billy Joe has just become all to stagnated. It's something which frequently happens with Warren and in the end the vast majority of boxers seem to pay the price.
It happened when Cleverely finally stepped up....it happened more recently when Frankie Gavin stepped up...happened with Kevin Mitchell and to a lesser extent (as much poor matchmaking) it happened with Khan.
His fighters win a version of a title and then he seems to have them treading water and feeding on cannon fodder for too long; when the step up eventually comes they are unprepared for it.

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
Seeing as Tyson Fury has picked up the off fine for abusive comments, I am surprised Saunders has got away with it so far. Everything seems to f@ggot this, pu$$y that, Brighton is full of homo's etc
Probably not helping Furys persecution complex.

Re: BJ Saunders vs Eubank Jr
Yeh, he, and his team are dinosaurs.
Not sure Owen re the stagnating thing. I think warren has always tried to milk his fighters but also he's a reasonable judge of their capabilities. Cleverley, Gavin, Mitchell and Saunders just aren't quite good enough. Eventually they get fed to the lions, when he.'a out if options. He fed hatton 40 stiffs but when he had to step up he did. The guys who are good enough will make the step regardless of the fodder they've been previously fed.
I agree to an extent with the sentiment that fighters who aren't tested probably aren't improving but I doubt they regress either.
As for this fight, I don't think it will tell us anything about Saunders. He's a good fighter but he's not going to be a great one in my view. It will tell us a lot about Eubank... It will take a useful fighter to beat Saunders and given his lack of experience, if he comes through, the future looks bright.
I haven't been that impressed with Eubank, but its hard to tell he dicks about so much. This time he's in with a guy who will pressure him and deny him the opportunity to pratt about like he usually does. We'll get to find out if he can fight... And for that at least I'm glad the fights happening (if indeed it does). My instinct tells me they'll be quite evenly matched and it could be a good fight, but its pure hunch.
