Sky trying to limit damage
Dont know if anyone is watching Nelson and Adam Smith talk about the ppv show on sky sports news even though they admitted the main event didnt live up to the hype 'it was still a great show with great build up' i found it all a bit cringeworthy

Smith is awful......Everything is wonderful........Nelson isn't quite as irritating...
Shame he fronts it.............I think that Ed Robinson is excellent...........Word perfect, knows the sport inside out and is usually a little more honest with his views than other broadcasters....
Really rate him !!

Re: Sky trying to limit damage
I would happily listen to Smith talking his jibberish all day if it meant never having to hear from Nick Halling in the commentary box ever again. Clueless, biased, jingoistic, lacking in knowledge....But enough about Truss, back to Halling.
Joking aside, why do Sky have to make out that every single fight they show has been a barnstormer? I appreciate they're going to use a bit of creative licence, but at least networks such as Showtime and HBO call an average fight an average fight when they see one. Bellew-Cleverly II was a low-quality stinker. Brook-Porter was a scrappy, dull fight but we had to endure Halling towards the end bumbling on about what a brilliant contest it had been and how it was "the kind of fight you'd really like to see again."
I couldn't stand him before in any case, but the straw that broke the camel's back for me was his performance in the Beltran-Burns fight. Basically saying that Burns deserved to have a couple of points head start on the cards in any case because he was the title holder and at home, and then enthusiastically saying how great it was that Beltran got ripped off because it meant the UK still had so and so amount of world champions. Made worse by Hearn afterwards telling everyone that when you're travelling to a champion's backyard, "one or two rounds (because it's not as if most people thought Beltran won it by a wider margin than that!) just isn't enough."
I wish someone would remind Hearn of that line next time he bellyaches about Smith-Abraham!

I'm not biased !!
I thought the Crawford fight was worse.............."If this was the old Ricky"..."Ricky must be worried about his jaw"
No credit what so ever to Crawford.........
Absolutely shocking...........
Said it before when I first came over here Italia 90 was on and we were on holiday in Scotland..........We were in a bar when Germany beat England.....and the screams of delight were probably heard back in Roxbury..
Watt must be the only Scot on the planet who loves English fighters.............or he's completely sold out !!
I know which one I believe..

Re: Sky trying to limit damage
Think I watched that one with the sound off, Truss, but I remember a few posters saying similar things to what you've said there, namely that Watt was incapable of going two minutes without saying the word 'jaw.' I do think that his struggles with Gonzalez and Beltran, combined with the injury, did blunt Burns' confidence a bit in fairness, but at the same time I thought the alleged difference in how he was fighing before and afer the injury was being over-played. Him trying to get the job done off the back foot was nothing new and he'd done it plenty in previous fights.
It's not as if there was anything to be ashamed about for Burns, either. Crawford was quicker, better defensively, had better footwork, more punch variety and so on - just a better boxer. Burns didn't have the punching power to equalise against all that and level the playing field (Crawford was the bigger puncher, too) so therefore I don't really see what else he could possibly have done differently against Crawford to change the result, regardless of how confident or physically fresh he was. But if you're a Burns die-hard or working for Sky, it's easier to just say that the broken jaw was the deal breaker, I suppose.

I like Robinson too, let himself down with froch groves 2, where he quizzed khan between rounds and showed disbelief that khan thought groves was winning... Otherwise pretty good and made to look very good by those around him

Robinson had a few pro fights I think. That might explain why he is so respected.
Although Mrs Windows saw him interviewing a boxer once and asked me why Dermot O'Leary was on Ringside.

Ed Robinson is incredibly wooden though, makes Paul Scholes look charismatic.

Robinson is not made for the tv the way others are, but his experience of actually knowing what boxing is gives him a wealth of experience to draw upon.

Not sure I follow aja. Pretty much the entire sky team are ex boxers. And the one's who aren't, smith and halling... well I'm sure people would pay good money to see them gloved up.

Robinson is the most professional of the lot...........Comes across well, knows his stuff and doesn't bullcrap and brown nose like Smith......
Who is downright nauseous.."Another one to look forward to !!"..."He's very good isn't he??"...........
Why are they spending 5 minutes on a dead cricketer anyway.......Doesn't Box does he ??
Apparently some Sunday league footballer collapsed and died in Outer Mongolia last weekend.....Let's spend some time on him !!

I think the kid's death is tragic.........But when a boxer dies you don't see Soccer saturday or International cricket leading with it !!
It's a cricket story......
