Get in !
Lovely forehand that, like a bullet. Djokovic will regret the double fault a point earlier.

However I do think that line was relevant, given what I said just after that.

Superb finish from Federer, big serving when he needed it
I also think if not for his injury in the Australian Open this year, he would have had 50% chance of winning the tournament.

Good fight from both, a lot of mistakes from both too.
Medium to good match, not bad from the senior guy.

Yes! So cool. No need for three sets - and luckily too as Fed was not winning the third set.

It was closer than the scoreline suggests, Nole could have easily won it. From 3:3 0-30 through 5:5 40-0 it was all Nole and Roger was just barely hanging in.

I didn't get to watch the match but you have to give respect to Federer - the years pass but he keeps on getting the wins.
At the end of 2011, the h2h was 14-10 to Federer.
In 2015, after 3 years of Novak's prime, it is 20-17 to Federer. Novak has closed the gap by just one!
From Novak's perspective, I don't mind too much. It has to be all about the slams now for him but it's still disappointing to lose to a rival, especially as I gather he lost his serve rather cheaply at the end of the second set?

Murray said it a couple/few year ago at Dubai- if hard courts on tour were still quick like Dubai (as they were in the past) "roger would still be #1 and would be for years to come"
Great win- certainly cements his continued relevance and ranking as the 2nd best in the world- at a ripe old age :-)
It's interesting to see DJoko's Serbian fans on the ATP site, etc.. People think Fed and Nadal fans are extreme- yikes! Nothing like this. Lots of talk of god like, some Messiah words thrown in. Federer only knows how to duck Djokovic..lol., 6-1,6-0 predicitons..smh..

Makes those people who accused Federer of ducking Djokovic at the end of last year look pretty silly.

Fleming talking so much Poopie.
Federer better than he ever was apparently.
After winning a 500.
Where do they get these people from?

H2h goes 20-17. It's a rather stubborn lead, I thought it would have been reversed a while back.
Fleming comment - it's like they're on a bonus to ramp the standard. Makes sense, they are in the selling business.

Djokovic looked pretty disinterested. Slams are what matter at this stage between these two, not ATP 500 matches. Will take the oz open over Dubai!!

They sell the game. That is what they are paid to do. So they want the match on the screen to be bigger and better than it is.emancipator wrote:Fleming talking so much Poopie.

Hopefully people thinking that Federer was lucky not to have Novak around in 04-07 will notice that that the h2h is not shifting throughout Novak's prime and Federer's later years.

I don't think so.
Djokovic is desperate to beat Fed every time they play, particularly in a final. He certainly didn't look disinterested when he started shouting and flailing his arms.

Nole had far more chances to break Roger than vice versa. While I thought it was pretty close the first 1.5 sets, from 3:3 through 5:5 40-0 Nole looked like he finally found the gears that Roger could not match. He had Roger on the ropes in back-to-back games - Roger was down 15-40 at 3:4 and at 4:5 - while he himself was holding comfortably.HM Murdoch wrote:Dear oh dear.
Then from 40-0 he made a couple of cheap errors, later a DF and before he knew it he was broken.

Djoko needs some credit, he gets the best out of Fed always, sure Djoko can get magical with Fed matches too.
Probably the best match-up for last 5-6y.

And don't forget three of Djokovic's victories came in 2013, when Federer had his worst season since 2001!

Novak has looked a bit patchy this week, and I half expected him to take a bit of a drubbing. So I'm pleased it was an alright performance, albeit not one reflected in the scoreline.
The only aspect that bothers me is that it seems we had some more of the losses of concentration that we saw in the Berdych match too. I was hoping that this had subsided.
