No but I'm coming down to Bournemouth in less than 2 weeks and have a game lined up with D4S - there's money and beer on it and he'll probably give me a damn good thrashing - he'll probably win the golf too

Re: Broadstone golf club
This sounds like dejavu...wasn't there a No1Yankee on the old BBC site that gave Broadstone a fictitious slagging off??
For the record I played it in January. Judgement may be a wee bit rose tinted as I parred the front 9.... I thoroughly enjoyed the course, plenty of elevation changes make a good interesting layout (as you might expect of a course Colt's stamp on it) with no 2 holes remotely the same. It was in great nick for January considering the weather during the early part of the winter. Must tap up D4S for another round soon.

Is this another of your windups? According to the club diary, there are no visitor/society bookings for BH Monday.

Doon: I was a fellow parka-clad scooterist (Vespas more my bag, cos the lambies looked cool, but less so when they were adourning the roadside with the cowling off). Them were the days, girls in abundance, more mohair than sense and cool rhythm & blues [shankingsighsinamannerreminiscentofAlfredfromHappyDays]

Re: Broadstone golf club
Did I tell you that I once rode my Lambretta all the way from Scotland to play in a match at Broadstone. The lightweight bag was slung over my shoulder and the spikes were in that wee compartment under the seat. Set of Fred Daly irons, a persimmon MacGregor driver and a Ben sayers 3 wood and Nichol Gem hickory shafted putter whilst wearing my Seve navy sweater under my parka.
Nice course though
BTW No1.
D4S sussed you

That'd be the tigers tail attached to the aerial and from the garage then!
Was it a ti? And how many mirrors did you have?
Happy times!!

Doon, I'm impressed that a lambie could travel that far without breaking down. You must have cut an interesting sight travelling virtually the length of British Iles with a golf bag slung over yer shoulder. Did you ever get to put the old Ben Sayers spoon to good use fending off truculent bikers en-route

Re: Broadstone golf club
Shankers,
I did not really do that journey just a bit pead with No1 being a bit precious.
Society at Broadstone on a bank hol. Yea.
Don't know what a 'ti' is but i think it was.
As I was the only mod in a rural scottish village I just had the two mirrors. The tiger tail was supported by a piece of my dads strong gardening wire.
If I misplaced the key I could start it with a sixpence.
It was always a sod to start so I used to always try to park on a hill. The speedo did not work and I was coming home from Edinburgh in the small hours when I spied the rozzers in a layby so I slowed down a bit in the 30mph area only for them to stop me as they thought I was pie eyed and driving to carefully.

Re: Broadstone golf club
Doon, I spent hours with lads fixing up old vintage 1960s Vespas and Lambrettas back in the early 1980s. There's still a crowd of them riding them now; 30+ years later. Back on topic (cos heaven forbid we wudn't want to offend now wud we) looking forward to the 36 holer in Meyrick Park in less than a fortnight and the preamble at Broadstone with D4S the evening before. Excellent

Re: Broadstone golf club
Doon - 2 mirrors!! Bah lightweight! Just joking really. Mind you, some of my friends had at least 10 mirrors all on long stalks - nightmare
I had a lambretta as well 175li until I wrapped it and me around a lamppost, to this day I still beliebve it wasn't my fault - ho hum.
Sorry NST, but Lambrettas where I come from, were the only one to have. The Vespas were considered to be a bit girlie then. Now of course, Vespas are de rigeur.

Some careless woman opened her car door right in front of me in the High Street. Swerved to avoid and did a double somersault with pike and landed in a pile watching the Lambretta carrying on without me. Definately NOT my fault.

There must have been a rally in Ayr a couple of weeks ago with over 500 old scooters running up and down thw A77. Quite a sight.

Ha Ha, we will see about that Drive. Should be a good craic though.
Doon and Shanker; scooter scene still pretty big in South West. Place in Nam sells old vespas and lambrettas - tbh I always fancied lambys but never had the mechanical skill to keep em running.

Its the essex thing i reckon. But they're never natural.
Always prefered the brunettes. At least you know it all match. And i don't have to ask if they dye their roots dark. Always upsets em for some reason.

What about Friday I'm in love by the Cure?...Poor old Thursday....must be about the only day of the week without a song ...or is it?
Looking at my diary D4S, first day I have free is Sun 26th June (the day after Broome's club Champs).
Doon, are you still on for the coming weekend?

D4S, my tendency would be for after 10.00 as I'd be travelling down in the morning.
Doon, was gonna head doon the road Monday (6th) and stop off and play one of the Lancashire courses but I could do Troon in the morning before leaving if that would work?

And don't forget the classic 'Rainy Days and Mondays' by The Carpenters. Just checked out Broadstone on the hole by hole Drive. Looks a cracking course. One thing I'm confused about, when did 'Pound a pound a pound' loser buys the first round, become NST pays for the Ruby
LJ:
The good things about brunettes is, at least you don't have to ask the matching collars and cuffs question which you inevitably do with blondes

No more than he deserves....actually....I have a question or 2 for you Yankee....Does the society that you are with on Monday consist of only you and your "mate"? Is your "mate" a member at Broadstone or has your "mate" managed to get a space for you in his societies event. When did you say you were teeing off again?
Lesson number one in making an attempted wind up.....think it through and pay more attention to detail ('')

I checked the start sheet while I was there today, mixed competition on all morning. Definitely no societies.
We might still get a 'review' of the course, probably slagging it off again.
Yankee, if you do, just remember that Golf World rank it 87th in GB&I so describing it as a dog track is only going to make you look silly.
