Re: GGG v Murray....Anybody want Murray to win ?
I want GGG to win sorry Truss. I think he's got the potential to be a real fixture on the world scene in the coming years, he's no spring chicken at 32 (I think) so the sooner he gets those big fights the better.
Don't want Murray to derail him, patriotism comes second to that. I don't believe Murray will stop him either. Other than being enormous on fight night and being a clean and competent boxer I don't see him troubling GGG. Think he'll get stopped early, before 5.

GGG all the way. I hope its a good fight and Murray doesnt fold easily though. He has the look of a worried man despite the usual pre fight rhetoric.

Murray for me, could never back a foreign boxer over an English one and find it weird that so many would.

I think the majority are excited to see GGG go up a level. Were he fighting Froch, I'm sure it would be a different story.
Having said that, if he can't beat Murray then he isn't worthy of all the excitement. No slight on Murray, that. Just a fact that Golovkin is being spoken about in Tyson-esque terms at times.

I would love for Murray to win, but he is 18/1......
Golovkin wins this with some to spare.

Murray's a stiff. Getting hyped due to getting a gift draw against Felix Sturm and then bullying an injured Sergio Martinez. Had Martinez's knee not been damaged he'd had beaten Murray 120-108 easily.

Re: GGG v Murray....Anybody want Murray to win ?
All things being equal come fight night I'll always cheer the brit. I was a don curry fan but i cheered for honeyghan. I do occasionally like to see the odd one get a dressing down, but its the exception... I'd like murray to win.
Its one of those occasions where you don't expect him to win though, and you have hopes that golovkin could be in some really big fights, so i won't be crying in my beer if golovkin batters him. From a fans perspective and given the expected result, I just hope murray makes it competitive and gives a decent account of himself. He's always seemed tough but limited to me, and i don't expect that to be enough.
18/1 though? Any takers?

Don't really get the idea of having to support your home fighter
Yea I like murray don't get me wrong but there isn't any particular like to the guy. He's humble and a decent operator but don't really like him or the way he fights. Golovkin o the other hand has a great style and is a great watch and could potentially get pulses racing unlike murray even if Murray pulls offs the upset
Yea I will be happy if Murray wins but would rather GGG so we can possibly get him vs canelo or another big name

Nothing wrong with supporting your own nations fighters but its a pretty neanderthol concept that you must support someone simply because they are the same nationality.
Personally it doesnt really come into it for me. I want good, entertaining fights. Thats the end game. If I get that I dont care who is from where. Its about entertainment at the end of the day.

Re: GGG v Murray....Anybody want Murray to win ?
I guess I've supported the Brit more times than I haven't based on nationality, but I'm pretty half-hearted with it and in this case I'd prefer a Golovkin win. For me, boxers are just individuals fighting for themselves, not a country or region. It's not like a national team or a football / rugby / cricket club which bears the name of a certain city / town. In cases such as Hatton-Alvarez, Cleverly-Kovalev, Witter-Bradley, Hamed-Barrera etc I've been supporting the other guy over the Brit, for instance. If I feel neither here nor there on the two fighters or don't know which of them winning would be better overall for the sport / their division then I'll side with the Brit, otherwise there's not really a pattern.

We're not American, ergo don't do blind jingoistic partisanship (other than Duty).
So I'd expect most to say they want the better fighter to win, regardless, and with GGG being a board favourite whom many consider could rise high in p4p lists and provide boxing some much needed excitement, many if not most will want that to be GGG.

I certainly wouldn't begrudge Murray a win and it's extremely difficult not to pull for the underdog but Golovkin looks a bit special. I'm interested to see if we have the next great middleweight on our hands.

Think that's an issue many modern fighter will find, big fights not happening will hamper ATG claims down the line.

Yeah, you need someone with Canelo's pull and willingness to fight top fighters mixed with a bit more ability.

Too much '0' protection around. So even when you've the exciting 'take on all comers' Eaterns around, they still can't get the top names to fight them.

Just gotta round up all the belts to try and cut the exits off; keep winning in exciting fashion, keep the buzz going.
Who knows where Haymon's PBC will lead us. Will we have a PBC champ and will that splinter things further?

I'm not that bothered who wins. I'd like to see Murray put up a challenge.
I'm guessing if Murray were to land a couple of good shots Rule Britannia would be ringing in the ears of most Englishmen.

Re: GGG v Murray....Anybody want Murray to win ?
I'm hoping for a Murray win, but only because it's so unlikely, I don't have to feel slightly bad for hoping for an upset which would move boxing back a bit...
Murray is a good fighter, by my count beat Stieglitz, and should probably have gotten the knock against Martínez, those are better names than anyone GGG has faced, and possibly better "wins" at MW than any champion at the division, so I think giving him no hope is unrealistic, as his obviously a quality operator. He's still gonna get run over...

If/when GGG wins, how long will it be before Murray is relegated on these boards to the rank of "bum" alongside Macklin and Barker?
Can't decide if it insults Murray or GGG the most

Gerry has already relegated him Dave.
To be fair I don't rate him that highly myself but bum is harsh on all that lot... Barker, geale etc.
lucky to have been alphabet champions in a weak divided era. Yep. Bums nope.

When was the last Mexican Heavyweight champion Gerry?
It could argued that Lennox Lewis trumps every single Mexican in history just by virtue of winning the greatest prize in sport.

I want Murray to win being a Brit, but I think that GGG absolutely poleaxes him in about 6 rounds. He should then pick up another belt by going after the Lee/Quillin winner as it's clear Cotto doesn't want to fight him...

I didn't say anything about Brook Truss. Golovkin has expressed interest in fighting everybody. You say he needs to fight someone good to be worthy, yet the half decent or rated fighters he wants all run away (Cotto, Qullin, Sturm to name a few in the past). So why not get all the other titles to attempt to force the fight? I like Golovkin simply because he's exciting. I don't think he's the be all and end all, but he's a breath of fresh air, much like Kovalev. Big puncher, good boxer, not afraid to face anyone. Why is that bad for boxing?
Every champ, especially Cotto after what he's achieved deserves a gimme, but he's nearing the end of his career and it'd be a hell of a fight and would probably generate some decent money. Plus us fans might quite like to see it. If Cotto decides a Floyd rematch is a better thing at middleweight than Golovkin then he is a ducker as far as the middleweight championship is concerned - granted he'd be a very rich ducker but a ducker nevertheless.
If he wants to be a middleweight champ, then please fight a middleweight, be it his mandatory, or Quillin, or Sturm or Lee or Golovkin. Hell even David Lemieux would do. But not a welter - it makes a mockery of us fans.

Obviously with Murray being English I have no national affinity to him. I have nothing against the guy though. A GGG win would be better for boxing. But I might cheer on Murray being as he is the underdog

As an individual sport, pulling nationalistic rank but if I am ambivalent about either I'll go for the British fighter, not least because, if he wins it means better potential fights in the UK as a result.
I'll be cheering on Murray for this, although a GGG win might be better for boxing and Murray win better for UK boxing.
As for 18-1 odds in a two horse race. That is phenomenal. What was Tyson v Douglas, similar odds? I fancy Murray for an upset here. He's exactly the challenge GGG needs, tough, defensively good but most importantly big at the weight. GGG won't walk through him like he has most of his other opponents.

I have never understood why English people cheer against Amir Khan. The guy is English, wants to fight the best and is a exciting boxer to watch. i know that no one is obliged to cheer own someone of their own nationality but I don't get why so many English people always want him to get beat
