Warren Gatland sets England roof 'challenge' for Six Nations
First topic message reminder :
Does it really make a difference?
Roof open - if it rains the ball becomes slippery.
Roof closed - the ball becomes greasy than a greasy spoon cafe fry up.
Why does he continue to play these mind games it's boring and does anyone from the opposing team take him seriously anymore?
Its Wales vs England in Cardiff, its going to be tight either way.

Bible black dragon brooding cave. And shut out the rest of the world, because we're Welsh in here and we love our roof.
Twickenham's a dump, has about as much atmosphere as a huge stadium where the pitch is a 2 week drive from the stands

Let's all get a ROOF! The welshys have one so we all must get one. Just like we should all start doing a dance before kick off cos the NZers do it.

The Angels enjoy seeing the Twickenham matches and told me they don't want any roof spoiling the sublime view.

Re: Warren Gatland sets England roof 'challenge' for Six Nations
I was actually fairly disappointed to hear Lancaster vetoed the roof being closed. All this, “Rugby is an outside sport” guff is akin to saying something like, “Cars should always have roofs”. Anyone who’s been to the MS with the roof shut knows what a great atmosphere it is – and a step up from most stadia.
I guess Lancaster doesn’t have to prepare for the MS for the RWC, since they’ll be playing in Twickenham, but it seems a little spineless. The fact Wales has to give the visiting side the final vote on the roof seems absurd in itself! We all whine about the haka giving NZ an unfair advantage, but if they offered us the chance to veto it, would we really take it?
I can’t remember too many other coaches overturning the roof decision – maybe Italy a few times. Still – if anything it will only make the crowd louder tomorrow night. And as someone above rightly pointed out – some of the loudest occasions I remember there we had the roof open.
One thing’s for sure – if Wales do win tomorrow – expect mind-game galore from Gatland in the run up to the RWC game!

Its just a roof, why are the Welsh so proud of it?
I'm sure 80000 people will still be able to 'make some noise' with it open!

Because it makes the ball greasier and thus changes the playing conditions. If its not raining, why bother with it

Well, the only other major home nations stadium built since the MS is the Aviva. It seems like they tried building a greenhouse, but only got 3/4 of the way around

Re: Warren Gatland sets England roof 'challenge' for Six Nations
And a beautiful greenhouse it is too (Lansdowne) for housing wallflowers and daffodils and thistles; and there's even a space for letting some sun in to see the grass now and again, which is a novel idea I know
Anyway, enough of this nonsense.
Why isn't there a coin toss for the roof?
Better still, why isn't there a gentlemanly compromise and a decision that one half should be closed and the other half open?
Better still, why doesn't the roof get it's own chatshow on the BBC? Afterall, it always has much more to say for itself in the media than even that motormouth Norton. Its fame is wasted.

Because 'bye bye delilah' sounds louder when its closed. Imagine how low that chariot would be swinging if they had one down at HQ.

It'd be a right balls up! That's what it would be. The scrumhalf wouldn't know which ball to extract from the rear......

Gats’ is missing a trick here. Just as the ABs do the haka thing immediately before KO, then Wales should either open or close (depending on the final position) the roof in some sort of grand hubric pre-KO gesture. The crowd would go mad, the girls in pink cowboy hats would scream, the Cardiff lads would wave their leeks, the valley boys would grunt. What a night out!

Barney mcgrew and Secretfly Good idea I like it.
As for Gatland - your pre-match wind up and mind games are based on whether a roof is open or closed? Really? That's the best you can do?
Is the roof so important to how Wales play?

Unlikely, no parking on St Mary's street during game day and if they do they will either get towed or more likely, their wheels will come off by virtue of valley commandos

The band of angels will their fly their sweet chariots from over Jordan, and rest in the skies over the Taff. The roof will be open so you will see their bows of burning gold and arrows of desire. And will carry them home.

I think this game maybe is going to be on the wrong channel
- maybe one of those Bible Belt channels would be a better climate for this one???
"Be righteous He sayeth onto YOU!!! Deliver your belief to Him by becoming proficient in sem-eye automatic weapons! That you may enter the bunkers of True Life in Jesus when the US of A crumbles under the strain of its sodomised sinners living in the East and West coasts of perdition!!!"

Except knowing Cardiff it will p#44 down at the last minute, Nick Easter will shut the roof, the chariots will land and the incessant rain will put out the burning gold, the chariots will get very rusty and the Angels won't be able to see the game. At half time the angels will try to use the bogs in the stadium and get locked out. Then, when Wales win by 47 points the roof will open and the chariots will fall down onto the pitch where the angels will then see their wheels drop off.

Yes, lot's of higher level analytical thinking going on here. Just read a further release by the Welsh camp (Edwards) relating to England employing illegal rugby league blocking tactics. This is a better effort than the roof challenge IMO!

Yes, a better attack platform from the English (Edwards) coach. And not going down a completely blind alley either

Quite an ironic comment from Edwards, given how much more strongly crossing is policed in RL than in Union...
Now, if he'd accused us of using Australian tactics, it might at least have been more accurate, although for me England are one of the sides that use dummy runners least and least effectively.
