No Weir Maitland and Denton…..still think it's possible to do it though if Scotland play the way we all know they can now.

If Maitland's out and considering Hoggy hasn't played for a while I assume the only option left would be Tonks at FB?
I hope Blake isn't receiving actual abuse for being included, can't blame the lad for being picked and he does seem genuinely shocked. Plus my plan for Scottish rugby was to marry a Kiwi or Saffer bird (hopefully) have sons and have them qualify for Scotland through the Grandfather rule. Probably as a 10 and 7 or centre though I suppose it's hard to predict which position Scotland will be woeful in by then.

Re: 6N Round 1: France v Scotland, 7 February
I'm off to the Pacific Islands to reproduce if we don't win this world cup, if they practice polygamy I can have 5 wives on Samoa, Fiji and Tonga of varying size and take them to Scotland to give birth so we have a team of fully eligible gifted rugby players.
Alternatively we take every semi-decent (as in the Grays, Finn Russell and Hogg (and Weir)) rugby player in Scotland and mate them with south Africans to produce front 5 forwards, New Zealanders for 6,7,8,9,10,12,13 and Fijians for wingers.
Let's take project players to the next level! (Decided to call it Project Parents)

Re-watched the Bath match, is there an argument to start with Dunbar and Bennett?
Has Scott really done enough to walk straight back into the first XV?

I'd agree, on from I'd go with the Glasgow pair. Only issue will be whether or not Dunbar gets over his concussion in time.

Leave this thread for a few hours and come back to find we're plotting an advanced breeding program!
Re: 6N Round 1: France v Scotland, 7 February
We could get BT to sponsor the women like they do with the academies, think we could have "BT Olga" to produce Georgian tightheads

Re: 6N Round 1: France v Scotland, 7 February
Not to detract from the, clearly brilliant, breeding ideas, but I’m going to attempt to get this thread back on track…but before I do, I think we are coming at this all wrong. We’re picking Scotland’s best players to breed, what we should be doing is getting the worlds best to breed with Scottish woman, and then (this is the tricky bit) convince them to play for Scotland.
Anyway, back to the France vs Scotland game
I have no idea how this game will go, we have a stronger team now than we’ve had in years, but at the same time our record in Paris is less than brilliant, plus given the injuries I don’t think any of us could say for sure who will line up for us in the backrow.
If the injuries don’t clear and no one else is called up then I’m guessing the team will look something like this:
1. Dickinson
2. Ford
3. Murray
4. Gray
5. Gray
6. Strokosh
7. Cowan
8. Beattie
9. Laidlaw
10. Russell
11. Visser
12. Scott
13. Bennett
14. Seymour
15. Tonks
I really hope Harley is back in time, but I’ve not heard how his recovery is getting on. Dunbar, if fit, should be in the side as should Hogg, but as things stand I don’t believe they are.
Hopefully nothing happens to Beattie or R. Gray in their game this weekend.

This reminds me of the Irn Bru campaign to have Scottish girls find Brazilian men to copulate with so that we could have a good wendyball team.
Closest we came to Scots Brazilians was a boom in the number of beauty salons offering intimate hair removal treatments...

This advanced breeding programme is old hat. Apparently back in Victorian times a young and beautiful actress approached George Bernard Shaw at a party and suggested they should have children, "With my beauty and your brains they would be unstoppable." she cooed.
"Better not my dear. They might have my looks and your brains." replied the Irish genius.
I know this is true because Asbo was there and he swears it happened.

7 - Cowan
8 - Beattie
How much better would everyone feel if Kelly Brown was in the squad?
Saying that, really hope Harley recovers in time. Exactly the kind of guy you want against a big ugly French pack: relentless, tireless and fearless in the tackle. Plus his height is a big bonus at the line-out, we threw to him a lot at the tail in the Autumn.
3 -
No idea who first choice will be, Murray started AIs well but he's been in and out the Glasgow team since, while Cross played well in final two matches and has been getting more game-time with LI. With the Welsh match on Sunday, perhaps start Cross to build some continuity and bring Murray on to combat the inevitable French 20st LH prop joining the fray around the hour mark.
6 -
If Harley is fit, he starts. If he isn't and Strokosch is, he starts. If neither are fit .......
11 -
Vern commented on Visser's form and would really expect him to get a chance. But then again, perhaps Vern will be conservative and go with Lamont to try dominate them defensively.
12 -
13 -
If fit, Dunbar has to start because he's been one of the form centres in NH this season. Who to pair him with is tricky though, the safer choice is to go with Scott and have them effectively play L&R. But going for Bennett could be the bold call, brings more balance to the back-line, adds more pace and trickery plus it's a settled club midfield-line.
15 -
Obviously if fit, Hogg starts. If not it'll be Tonks, how much time at FB has he had in the 12 months? Have been against his switch to FH since the beginning and now it's potentially going to backfire on us, while Heathcote is currently kicking his heals somewhere. What would happen if Tonks started at FB and picked up an injury, who can cover? Russell, Seymour, Bennett, Lamont, Hidalgo-Clyne?

Re: 6N Round 1: France v Scotland, 7 February
I think we need to have us men breeding with the women of the world rather than our women breeding with the other men of the world!
Why?
1. I'm not sure, but I think that, barring the kid having dwarfisim (no offence to anyone with dwarfisim), a boy will always grow taller than his mother??? So if we send out a 5 ft 5 scots lass to have it off with a 6ft 6 fijian, the boy (if it is a boy) could grow to only 5ft 6! But if I go and have my way with a 6ft 4 swedish girl, then the boy would grow to at least that height???
I may be totally off the mark here though!
2. It's already hard enough in this part of the world to pull a bird without the kiwis, ozzies, saffas, fijians et al coming here and stealing our women!

I second the thoughts of my learned friend, TigerTattie.
It really should be Scottish men being sent abroad, and by 'men' I mean 'us', and to be quite honest, by 'us' I really mean 'me'.

I concur with the Brumeister. Also, unless there is a government sponsored scheme there is no way on God's earth that any of us will be procreating with 6 ft 4 Swedes. (must I tell them about my vasectomy?)
Thought for the day;
Yesterday, through this forum I picked up two tickets for Scotland-Wales at a very reasonable price.
Today, four tickets for the Calcutta Cup match have landed in my lap (okay so they'll cost face value)
Tomorrow??? I can hardly wait to see. Perhaps the worldwide SRU funded insemination programme will begin a trial run.

I suggest we all have predict the score in the France game and then the closest gets to choose first and we work our way down til the worst has what's left

Numbers, I'll forego those sunny and exotic locations. It is a little known fact that all the French ladies GC chooses all suffer from two afflictions; elongation of the lower limbs and a fondness for cuddly Glaswegians. Bonjour tristesse, as they say. That is French for "I'll take one for the team"
On a practical note; as I'm taking Pipetto to Murrayfield for the Wales game I had best stay off the sauce. Can anyone offer advice as to the best place to park. I'll be approaching from the west and don't want to drive into the city centre. Thanks.

Strahan Road and walk over ravelston dykes. 15 minutes walk, easy parking and straight onto Queensferry road after the game.
That's my parent's part of town and somewhere I always recommend to people.
Alternatively park near Mary Erskins girls school, but you might not get a space so easily.

Don't really want to see that mulleted aussie hackjob in there. Why is it not VERN?

Oh god why does Laidlaw look like someone's wee brother who's been taken out to give his mum a break? And could they not do it outside so that they can wear actual rugby boots rather than trainers. How awful is the Italian Kit as well?

Ah glad to hear that it was Vern appearing today, just pulled this off planet rugby and since the background is dark whilst the background for this year is light so it is probably last years photo.

Saughton sports ground is pretty good for parking. About 15 min walk and then easy to head back west from there. Used it a couple times and quite a lot of scotland fans use it.
The main one I use when driving is a small street just of gorgie road, it's called fords road and is behind some council buildings so isn't totally obvious. Only 10 min walk from Murrayfield and then about 5 mins back out to the bypass. I've arrived 2 hours before kick off and also 20 mins before kick off and always got a space.

Check out the first two videos listed here:
http://www.rbs6nations.com/en/matchcentre/video_highlights.php
The first shows how the made the new trophy.
The second is delightful for other reasons.

Well as always there wasn't anything overly interesting said at the launch yesterday, but there were a few key points:
- Joe Schmit (Vern's assistant at Clermont) confirmed that Vern is a big scary son of a gun
- Hogg is expected to be fit
- If not, Seymour is being touted as his replacement at 15, with Visser and Lamont on the wings probably

Has Vern been speaking with Scott Johnson again!? We really should find a way of stopping that happening.
If Hogg is out, then Maitland should play 15. If Maitland is out, then Murchie should play 15. If Murchie is out, then I think it's a toss up between Tonks, McColl and Cuthbert.
Either way, Seymour is our form winger and not a fullback. Lamont is neither in particularly good form nor is he a right winger (assuming they keep Visser on the left). How on earth could we end up with 11.Visser 15.Seymour 14.Lamont??
I genuinely cannot think of another rugby country so eager to shoe horn players out of position.
