Mayweather Vs Cotto 2 - For The Lineal MW Title
First topic message reminder :
Is anyone particularly excited for this?
I'm personally not, as we found out last time, Cotto doesn't have enough for Floyd although is off the back off a technically great win that made him the lineal Middleweight champion, surely flatters him as Martinez looked finished to me. Floyd in comparison is off the back of one rather poor performance and one good performance against Maidana that made Floyd look slightly more vulnerable.
Has THAT much changed to make this fight a bit of a nailbiter? Can't see it personally.
If Floyd does fight at 160lbs I can guarantee the second highest viewings rated fighter on HBO (Golovkin) won't get a look in for that supposedly lineal title.
Would prefer him to face Khan, Manny or Thurman.
Bradley, Garcia etc. are all too slow or don't have the physical strength to overpower Floyd despite perhaps having better CV's to do so other than Manny you just look at those fights and just think it's pointless as they can't win.
Not excited but it sounds like it will more than likely be made especially with no Cotto/Canelo it seems.

I respect his skills. I do not condone beating women but I am not here to judge people.

I only like him because he smacks women around...
If he didn't he'd be Top 30 - 50..

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto 2 - For The Lineal MW Title
I can only repeat what I said on another thread. This makes a mockery of the Middleweight title and I would rate Cotto as a ducker if he fights Floyd. A rich ducker but a ducker nevertheless. Fight a damn middleweight if you're the middleweight title holder!
All those deserving middleweight fighters wanting to become the lineal middleweight champ wouldn't be able to challenge properly because a) Floyd wants yet more adoration/cash/legacy for beating a welter at middle and b) Cotto wants to line his pockets. If/when Floyd wins, he won't defend it and if Cotto fights him, it'd probably be his last fight anyway. Vacant title, but only when Floydy boy can make up his mind.
I am not sure this will happen because by the time Floyd's beaten or lost to Manny (surely a done deal behind closed doors now??), the fight will be irrelevant anyway as Cotto will have lined up/beaten/lost to TBA and likely retired.

Surprised you'd give him credit if he were to fight and beat Cotto at a catchweight for the title considering you gave Pacquaio absolutely none for his catchweight matches.

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto 2 - For The Lineal MW Title
One school of thought is that Cotto kept stalling on the Alvarez fight because they wanted the Mayweather rematch.
The other is that the Cotto camp felt Mayweather v Pacquiao was imminent and didnt want to commit to a date that would compete with it. So they stalled waiting to see if the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight would indeed go ahead in May.
Mayweather clearly has never fancied the Pacquiao fight but he finally under serious pressure by the suits and money men (not to mention de la Hoyas stubborness to directly compete with Alvarez). They know there is a lack of alterntives for both fighters, they know both are nearing the end of the road. I think they will be pushing hard to get this fight done whereas in the past they were happy to continue riding the gravy train.

Something one person has probably done in 140 years..
and he's a coward...
Listen to yourselves...Pathetic..
Nicely dressed up comment to pour more glory onto your beloved Floyd.
Although its impossible to find anywhere on the internet including boxrec, I'm 90% sure cotto made his debut into pro as a lightweight. You make it sound like Floyd grew massive to hurt the big guys.
I may be corrected shortly but I've tried to search the net for cotto's debut weight category but could not find it anywhere.
Its clear by your posts that you are American, Frak I've been out here in the USA for 2 years now and every polititian, every news reporter, every sports analyst do exactly what you do, leave out the defining points. It fools Americans but Brits.....hell no.

The joke about cotto is he was actually fat as a kid. He was middleweight at about 10 years old. Think he started off as an amateur at lightweight but was just a teenager, he was lightwelter when he turned pro.
As a boxrec historian, I can advise you danger mouse, that they usually give the weights if you click on the 'openbook' symbol to the right of the fight record. Were it not for this feature my boxing knowledge would be even less than it currently is... Hard though such a thing would be to imagine!

Its no secret I'm a Floyd fan but to be honest I do really like Pacquiao too.
I pick Floyd to win and win by stoppage. I know I have been laughed at but I'm sticking to it.
I just hope to see the 2 greatest fighters of a generation collide. It might not be as big for the purist as a few years ago but the casuals will eat this up.
If this happens, I would then like to see the Brook and Khan fight. Perhaps the winners could then meet.

Alternatively become a member of Boxrec and the weights come up automatically. Hammer told me that one.
