Things that don't add up...
Is there anything in a movie that doesn't make sense for you (storyline or otherwise) and is bothersome as a result?
Example: Inglorious Basterds- Hugo Stiglitz is infamous in the German army for killing German soldiers. His face was on the front page of a newspaper. Why then doesn't Major Hellstrom recognise him when they meet in the basement??!

The one part of a film that annoys me more than any other is when Brigitte Nielson injects Dolph Lungdren in Rocky IV. Why do they need to make him a cheat? Can he just not be superior without that scene?
Also, in one of the endings of Star Trek VI, they go all Scooby Doo and make the Klingon assassin a human with a klingon mask on. Annoys the hell out of me and no need for it!

Perhaps to vilify the Russians, given the Cold War context of the film? Or maybe it was vitamin B-12!Adam D wrote:The one part of a film that annoys me more than any other is when Brigitte Nielson injects Dolph Lungdren in Rocky IV. Why do they need to make him a cheat? So many - always the most confusing for me are fight scenes with 1 good guy and over a dozen baddies. 2 things, 1 why do the baddies not just overwhelm the guy all at once? And secondly if after 10 kills why do baddies still decide to throw themselves at the goody who has so far killed 10 of your buddies often in 10 deadly katana blows? Feck me after about 7 I would be outta there!

What would happen if a bunch of storm troopers were firing at a bunch of unnamed red shirts from Star Trek?

The badly aimed shots would bounce off some plaster-cast rocks, some red 'atmospheric' light rigging, some Gunsmoke props in the corner of the studi........I mean the corner of the planet ............ and kill each one of those red shirts.

Why didn't they just blast the pod that C3PO and R2 were in, near the beginning of episode IV?

Indeed, but still, take no chances and shoot the damn thing.
ALSO in star wars. Obi wan is roughly about 40 years old at the end of episode III, but is about 80, 20 years later, in episode IV.

Why did Silva go to all that trouble of getting caught, just so he could attempt to kill M? Plus, everything had to fall into place at the right time, for him to pull it off (he didn't). I'm thinking the tube explosion.

Yep, anyone who ever lays eyes on him for a first time - the line is always: "AH, Meester Bond!"
And even if they pretend not to know him the first time, you quickly realise it's only a trap to lure him into the lift with the two beautiful girls and the seven sticks of fuse-lit gelignite.

Re: Things that don't add up...
In Maleficent, Angelina Jolie had her wings clipped. It's considered a Big tragedy, and she causes a lot of wreck and ruin in gaining revenge for the act.
It also stops her being able to make the long journeys necessary to pick up intelligence and stuff on the evil king wot did it.
But she has magic powers, don't she? So she finds a crow, turns it into a man, makes him her spy and uses his ability to turn back into a crow at any time as her method of getting up close and personal with her enemies. Because he can fly in through windows and things, innit.
She never thought to just use the magic to grow a new set of wings herself, no?

When someone first told me this it nearly ruined the film for me.
In I am Legend why did Will Smith blow himself up, should have followed the girl instead (Also why didn't they just film the proper ending, winkers)

Come to think of it, the eagles could have taken care of most of trials faced by the heros of Middle Earth, had they been asked and had they had the interest - but it seems they were a bunch that were easily bored and didn't hang around on the one job long.

Re: Things that don't add up...
The thing about movies adapted from books is that they inevitably leave some things unexplained. The point about the eagles is explained in the books (or possibly The Silmarillion, I'm not entirely sure off-hand): basically they're higher beings who only rarely concern themselves with the affairs of men (and dwarves, elves and hobbits ). They helped out on occasion because of Gandalf (also a higher being), but it would have been risky for them to approach Mordor, so they didn't.
So yeah, the eagles are selfish b@stards...

You could say the same in Jaws 2 ..........The Mayor is happy for his son to go sailing with his mates after all the carnage from a couple of years earlier...
Don't buy that..
What kind of greedy b**tard shark eats the water skier and then goes back for seconds with the old girl on the boat !!..........Isn't one double whopper enough ??
Jaws 2 is regarded by many as the first of the teen slasher movies............and rightly so..

Worst one I saw was ON DEADLY GROUND.....When the head of the mercenaries (Drill Sergent out of Full metal jacket) Tells his boys "Don't take chances with this guy, (seagal) He p**ses gasoline etc".......and then when he surprises him starts talking to him giving seagal the chance to disarm him and kill him..
Absolute bollox like the rest of the film..

Yeah, On Deadly Ground, one of the best comedies out there.
Old Sgt. Hartman doing the Shakespearian sonnet on how dangerous this here guy Seagal was. I remember there was a big family group watching that the first time and really, it was a tear-streamer comedy for us.
"You could drop this guy off at the Arctic Circle wearing a pair of bikini underwear, without his toothbrush, and tomorrow afternoon he's going to show up at your pool side with a million dollar smile and fist full of pesos."
So quit stopping to waste time talking about him and go git him!

Mad Max.
The object is petrol. Everyone wants a drop or a few cans of it.
So where do they all head? Yep, into the Australian desert - where food is scarce and so driving here and there to get some can be hard on the little gas that you do get your hands on. ie - you end up wasting more gas trying to find gas than you get when you find some. Diminishing returns.
There might be more of it in the ruined cities on the coasts - as well food, come to think of it.
The desert is the wrong place to go to in an apocalypse - but everyone keeps going there regardless.

Don't you just love the way that monumental events occur and nobody seems to notice.
Loved how, in the Batman movie, the Joker was able to demolish a hospital without anybody batting an eyelid. OK, so let's get this right. The film suggests that a man wearing garish make up and dressed in a nurses uniform, is able to install a huge quantity of explosives in points all over the hospital, and wire it to a detonation system and at no time is ever picked up on a camera, or challenged by security or other staff.
He is then able to detonate the bomb, bring the entire building down and walk away down the street, still face painted and wearing the nurses uniform and not a single copper or caped crusader.... not a television news crew in a helicopter or member of the public sees a thing.
Amazing.
Another example: In The Expendables, Bruce Willis's house is attacked in the middle of the night by a horde of Ninjas. A massive gunfight breaks out and in the end the house explodes in a ball of flame and not a single neighbour's curtains so much as twitch.
Perhaps nobody wants to go out in their dressing gown and ask them to do their fighting more quietly please, as they're waking the children up, but you'd think somebody might at least shout out "Keep the bloody noise down, you lot."

Terminator 2, the scene where the cop (bad terminator) turns up at the house of teenage john Connor. When he asks about the son, the parents say they don't know where he is and add in that another guy turned up on a motor cycle earlier in the day looking for him, not seeming fazed at all at these 2 incidents.
Now, if someone the size of 80's arnie turned up at your door, looking as he did in terminator, asking about your teenage son...shortly followed by a police officer, I think this May cause the teenagers parents to show the slightest bit of concern!!! But they didn't seem worried at all..

Dave, I've heard better than the "He only nicks cars" line.
I was making my way to Pompey dockyard v early one morning (had to be on duty) and en route through a particularly chavvy estate, passed a house that was getting the old "Early-morning-knock-on-the-door". There were police everywhere, one man being pinned to the ground and having cuffs put on while resisting arrest rather vigorously and vociferously. Another young man was being herded into the back of a police car while bags of, what I presume, would probably turn out to be other people's property were being taken out of the house. A slatternly woman, who I imagine was the family matriarch was giving one copper a particularly foul mouthed tirade while jabbing her finger in his face, and then she came out with the classic line which just put the tin lid on the entire scenario: "What gives you the f***ing right to treat us like scum?"
Would you like a list, love..?
PS. Sorry for the thread drift... I just thought that was worth sharing. Back on track now.
