I think we need to recalibrate the whole notion of what an "international player" is. In our terms it constitutes the players best equipped to play international rugby for Scotland. We don't have a Stephen Larkham, Dan Carter or Jonny Sexton, Cotter was given a pretty much straight choice between Tonks and Horne. The very fact that one had to play and the other hand to bench means that as far as Scotland is concerned, they are "international players".
We can bitch all we like about them not being as good as Biggar, Sexton and Ford, and we'd be right, but there's no point is suggesting they shouldn't be picked because they aren't "international class" (whatever that means), because they are the best we had available.
