Transparency - that'll shoot you up the league and attact the big name players, coaches and fans! Only joking...
But seriously, how will the removal of the nickname of Cardiff from the current pro club game demonstrate transparency? Or to put it another way, what has the name 'The Blues' been hiding that transparency can reveal? I'm not trying to pick a fight. Honest! I'm constantly changing my mind on the regional vs old club debate so sympathise with your views. But on this occasion I don't see what your suggestion will achieve. It would be like Leicester dropping the 'Tigers'. They'll still be Leicester and they'll still have the Tigers nickname. But I could be missing the something here. Not the first time!

Exactly, so why the fuss about changing your name from Cardiff Blues to Cardiff (Black and Blues)? What transparency? I'm assuming you mean 'we wuz never a reejun, we wuz allowed to stand alone'. What benefit will the relatively small change in name bring? That's all I'm intereted in really.

Think about it again. Pretty obvious to me.

Go on help me out, 'coz I'm struggling a bit.
Cardiff becomes..... Cardiff. Same fans, same stadium, same kit, same owner, same everything.

You stalking me?
Well it would seem that you know the score, so you shouldn't be struggling at all.

Stalking you?! No, just aasking the same person the same question, but you don't want to answer. So forget it! But for the record I genuinely do not know what benefit (benefit to me bing increased fan base, funding, ticket sales, merchandising, etc.) of dropping the Blues. I can't see that much would change = no benefit.

Okay. As a complete outsider.
So my questions won't be seen to be heavily biased in favour of regions or old clubs.
But I too would like to understand this more - and let's face it, if Griff can't, what hope do I have.
But I'll try.
So is the story that the Cardiff 'Blues' actually emerged from an old club that were once called the Black and Blues? Or at least had black and blue hoops?
Therefore, the moral is that Cardiff 'Blues' should drop the name of 'Blues' out of respect to the Black bit that never got recognition when the Region was named/nicknamed Cardiff Blues?
Is that the argument?

That's about it 'Fly. The Blue and Blacks 'went regional', but were allowed to stand alone by not joining with another club, lost their black shorts, but apart from that just carried on as normal. Dave said there would be a big announcement soon about dropping the 'Blues' bit. But I can't seem what it will achieve. New shorts maybe? Great!

Great post btw. Love it when "outsiders" get interested in our homemade nonsense.
The fact is that Cardiff RFC were gifted the "Blues" suffix and that's it in a nutshell. Been aggro and confusion ever since.

It would put an end to the continuing arguing and bickering for starters.

Re: DING-DONG !! The "Witch" is dead (almost)
Well outsider is what I am Dave, even if it's enclosed in quotation marks
But I get it now I think. Cardiff was allowed be a virtual 'Region' by remaining a standalone club in real terms - in not having to amalgamate with any other club in other words.
But somehow the suffix 'Blues' was forced on them and made a bit of a lie of the promise that they'd be allowed hold the complete identity of the old club Cardiff RFC?
If so, yep, that's complex..... I won't dip my nose in any deeper.

No it won't. Because you've now got some (but probably not many) non-Cardiff based fans. So you then alienate some of your new fans. Same with us Dragons. I go to the Dragons with Cwmbran and Blaenavon dwellers. They did not used to support Newort RFC before regional rugby, and if it were to revert back they would kick up a stink. The arguing and bickering would continue. We've now got fans of the former and fans of the latter rugby set up! Think about the kids, mun. Some of them have only ever know regional rugby.
Plus, if you become just Cardiff RFC then want would the other regions have to say. Different rules for different members may/should mean different approaches, e.g. to funding? The row will rumble on.

No offence intended and I usually use Q marks when quoting. Love your virtual reference too coz it's bang on. Not so sure the "Blues" suffix was forced upon Cardiff either as I believe the club played a part in that. Had to come up with something and that was chosen.
It aint that complex really, just stark raving bonkers.

Kids were chanting "Kaaairdiff, Kaaairdiff" in unison on Sunday at CAP and clearly audible on the telly.
As for your comment "if you become just Cardiff RFC"; they are just Cardiff RFC though as you agreed earlier.

Exactly, so what good will dropping 'Blues' do? You're still Cardiff Blues, or Cardiff, or Kerdiff, or whatever. So there has to be a point to it (going on record as dropping the end name). Do you think it will lead to increased crowds or a change in fortunes of the team on the pitch? Because I don't think it will make a jot a of difference, which is why I'm wondering why you're bothering at all.
When's the big announcement anyway?

Can't believe he wanted to stay on until after the Lions Tour 2017.
What a horrible creature he is. Hopefully he will NEVER darken rugby's door again after he shuffles off on Halloween.

Could do in the long run, but you're jumping the gun a bit. Doing what's right and proper is my view on this. Honesty and openness is the way forward. The club can then celebrate and market their history. Worth a few quid in itself I reckon.
