ITV Coverage: How Did We Rate It?
First topic message reminder :
I thought Pougatch was his usual, dependable self. Al Bernstein was pure class as always and Haye was a decent pick for ringside analyst.
I don't recall the big fella's name doing lead commentary but he was excellent - with none of the Watt-Halling-type histrionics.

Believe so, still enjoy listening to his commentary when watching videos from Tyson's era on youtube.

I like the lead commentator (did the Olympic boxing commentary from memory?), says it how it is without shouting "he's joost throoooowing arrrruuummmmm punches" (and then said arrumm punch promptly knocks seven shades of Poopie out of the other bloke).
Not a shade on the guy who did the American commentary for Tyson vs Bruno I "Tyson gets nailed with a left hook, Tyson looks wobbly". Probably my favourite lead commentator of boxing. Can't remember his name though, killed a few brain cells this weekend (may potentially be at zero now)
Bob Sheridan I reckon.

Sheridan is so abysmal that not even a tasteless, tacky braggart such as Coxy could enjoy him, Alex.

Bob Sheridan said what was quoted
Sheridans commentary on Tyson being KOed for the first time is the most astounding piece of commentary I have heard. Personally.

Well, you've got me there, Alex. Sheridan is God-awful but that Douglas-Tyson commentary is a guilty pleasure of mine. Maybe because its chief competition was Lampley's inexcusably low-key effort in HBO's broadcast, which sounded more like a shipping forecast in its delivery.

Yeah, I always thought that Chris...
Ray Leonard's very dull "Oh wow, the uppercut.."
Lampleys unenthusiastic "Oh... and down goes Tyson..."
And then Merchants little quipp "This makes cinderella look like a sad story"
Was pretty tame.
Christ, I watch this stuff too much... I just realised I knew all that off the top of my head...

I always quote that in the colonel's defense. His tone of voice summed up the magnitude of the event. Unfortunately he almost always sounds equally excited which doesn't suit every fight he commentates on

Totally agree with you JBW, remember with the Haye/Mormeck fight he covered on Setanta, didn't quite suit when he was shouting about it about there being a new WBA Cruiserweight Champion. Didn't quite have the same appeal to it.

I thought it was a classic piece of commentary - the way they fumbled over their words as realisation dawned that Tyson wouldn't make it. Loved how they let the count play out.
Sheridan just bawls.
