Despite the best efforts of some of the best golfers in the world it seemed like a gentle stroll in the azaleas for wire to wire winner Jordan Spieth. Five of the Fantasy Leaguers picked the winner and enjoyed the spoils but typically they didn't have many picks backing him up.
Fifteen picks finished in the top 20 of the leaderboard. 1GrumpyGolfer and RedRage were working with a full squad and both had four picks score well. 1GrumpyGolfer's lowest scoring finisher was 12th and two of those scoring picks birdied the last for 66s which was the low round of the day. It's easy to see why 1GrumpyGolfer is being fitted with Spieth for a green jacket. RedRage didn't quite have the same quality of picks and wasn't able to close the gap. Raycastleunited fresh off his sabbatical had three scoring picks including Spieth. TheCleaver, CJB, McLaren, Hibbz, and SirBenson were the others that had three scoring picks but their picks raged from the winner to a 19th placed finisher.
Sand and Boyhyde were also working with the full set but had varying quality and between them shared two top ten finishers. Fantasy League rookie AlciG, Beninho, and Davie all had two picks including Spieth and they round out the top ten on the leaderboard. I'm Never Wrong, Kouchi, and LadyPutt also had two picks score points but they towards the lower end of the leaderboard. Augusta might not suit Kwinigolfer's eye, ball flight, or perhaps he couldn't activate his glutes; in a surprising twist Kwinigolfer struggled in not just the Fantasy League but Sportform's competition too.
Barragan, BlueCoverman, and SetupDetermines each had one pick score and for the reason they find themselves towards the bottom of the leaderboard. However, both SetupDetermines and Barragan had high finishes in Sportform's competition; maybe an OWGR versus Sagarin ranking anomaly? Another surprise was the fate of EmmDee57; all six picks to play with but no one in the top 20!
Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama shot 66 to share the low round of the day while Jason Day, Jonas Blixt, and Charl Schwartzel shot 75 to tie for the worst score of the day. All of the players, except Schwartzel, were picks. Thongchai Jaidee finished last on +9

It’s that time of year again as we head to Georgia for the Masters. The unofficial start to the season is upon us as the world almost steps back in time by crossing the threshold and onto Magnolia Lane. In this genteel place the golfing vocabulary changes, where there is no rough or spectators but different cuts and patrons. Pristine manicured fairways and flowerbeds set the scene for the tournament which really only gets serious on the back nine on Sunday. This is where players will negotiate the swirling winds of Amen corner and listen to the roars generated by those on a charge and hopefully make their own to don a green jacket on the 18th green.
There are 98 entrants to this year’s tournament as there were no last minute additions despite Johnson Wagner's 72nd hole heroics in Houston. There is a very top heavy field; 49 of the top 50 are at Augusta. The only one to miss out is the number 50 player Marc Warren who made the top 50 a week too late. In the field are 20 first timers, 7 amateurs, and 19 past champions.
With the limited field we are back to two picks plus reserve. No additional cut bonus points will be awarded in this instance, the only cut bonus to apply is for all six picks through to the third round.
There are seven amateurs in the field, idenitfied by (Am) after their name, so we will have a separate pick for Low Amateur. The Low Amateur pick does not have to be one of your Cat C picks unless you so desire. 30 points will be on offer for correctly picking the Low Amateur; if no amateurs make the cut then no points will be awarded.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Pick 1 amateur identified by (Am) after their name
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligble for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Re: Fantasy League 2015 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #11 The Masters
I've had a few weeks out of the fantasy league, playing a reduced schedule to focus on the W's, also I didn't feel my game was up to tournament standard. Here we go...
Cat A:
Rory McIlroy
Jordan Spieth
Res - Bubba Watson
Cat B:
Patrick Reed
Matt Kuchar
Res - Phil Mickelson
Cat C:
Tiger Woods
Luke Donald
Res - Angel Cabrera
Amateur:
Corey Conners
Res - Bradley Neil
Cheers Grumps. This must have been said already, but by only picking 6 players instead of 9, doesn't this mean that the majors are not really worth many more points than regular tournaments?

Re: Fantasy League 2015 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #11 The Masters
The smaller the field the fewer picks there are. With the Masters and WGCs being around 70-100 players the picks get dropped to 6. However the points value of these events are increased two and three fold. Last year I think the winner had two picks make the cut and ended around the 200 points mark but in other years I've seen the masters won with 300+ points. The other majors will be back at 9 picks because they have 150 odd players and typically winning scores are a lot higher.

I have him as a reserve, but will not come into play.
Not a Tiggger fan, not of his golf, just him.
For years now, he's been grumpy grumpy (sorry grumps).
Now we have the charm offensive.
If only he had done this years ago.
I was always taught, be nice on the way up, it's always a long drop on the way down

Thanks Kwini.
CJB and Mac, if no changes are made Couples and Donald will be upgraded as your Cat C picks respectively. You may wish to add another reserve just in case.

Re: Fantasy League 2015 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #11 The Masters
I'm going to experiment this week. I usually make picks with the intention of winning and then end up towards the bottom of the table. For the Masters I am making a concerted effort to finish dead last and hopefully this will see an upturn in fortunes.

I think Sand might still be away. If he hasn't made his own picks by the first tee time tomorrow I'll dig out his numbers.
LP, I'll take his first two numbers as his picks and the third will be he reserve. Not sure what to do about the amateur. Any thoughts?

If he doesn't pick then surely he doesn't enter this week? I don't think someone can pick for him (even if it is tongue in cheek). There's still time for him to pick for himself.1GrumpyGolfer wrote:I like that you've picked from all of his pet hates Inco; religious guys, fatties, and strange first names.

When folks are absent and picks are still made it's usually done because they've left instructions with countdown style numbers, two from the top and all that nonsense.

The first round of the Masters has been completed under sun and blue skies and that means Golf Season has officially begun!
Thirty of the ninety seven strong field broke par and none so impressively as Jordan Spieth. His opening round of 64 was the best by three shots. His closest challengers hail from four different countries; the South African, Ernie Els, the American, Charley Hoffman, the Australian, Jason Day, and the English Rose, Justin. Both Hoffman and Day were also Fantasy League picks.
Newcomer AlciG has introduced himself by starting at the top; he had both Spieth and Day. TheCleaver is tied with AlciG as he picked Spieth and Hoffman. The B boys in Beninho, BlueCoverman, and Boyhyde are in close proximity having picked either Spieth or both Day and Hoffman. Davie and Raycastleunited fresh off his self imposed absence also picked Spieth. One of Hoffman and Day were picked by eight other Fantasy Leaguers.
At the other end of the spectrum was Ben Crenshaw. Uncle Ben failed to break 90 by finishing with triple but Incontinentia didn't mind as he decided to go for choppers, I mean past champions, in Cat C.
