What a Carry On
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/32397815
Looks like Rhonda Rousey (guaranteed a free ticket by Arum himself) will be sat on her own...watching an empty ring! Maybe Amir Khan will also be there. Should make for an interesting evening when he decides to show her his c*ck and she kicks the sh!t out of him.
Ten days to go and still not a single ticket available. Out of 16,500 tickets available only 1,000 will be available to the general public!?!?!? Venues wanting to show it on closed circuit tv still have no idea what they will be asked to charge people. The greed of all involved is absolutely stomach churning and I'm hoping they both get KO'd or the fight is so dire they get lynched by an angry mob.

It's a meaningless fight !!.......... As some poster once pointed out .................
" (10/1 underdog) Murray is a good win and a better win than Manny".........
"It's not worth watching because Manny is 3/1"

Sadly I've already read it. Put it this way, if this was an Eddie Hearn promotion you can bet your kidneys there'd be hell to pay from certain quarters....although it's undoubtedly given Eddie ideas now.Rowley wrote:Probably better all round if you don't read the following link then Dave:

Whilst I am sure it won't come to this, could you imagine a fight that should be selling 100,000 tickets being held in a 17,000 seat venue that was half empty. As Truss says, a grade A f**k up.

You're not alone in that fear, horizontal. As everyone says, what an absolute shambles.
I remember a few of my friends asking if I was going to try and get tickets for the May 2nd fight. Ha ha ha, in what world was that ever possible?!

There will be a lot of people who will have booked hotels, flights or package deals in the belief some tickets would be available Dipper. Not every boxing fan is super rich, many will have booked time off work and made a lot of sacrifices to try and get to the fight, this shambles treats them with absolute contempt.

You're right there Rowls. It absolutely takes the urine to be honest. Just an absolute circus of greed.
Should have stuck it in a stadium and sold tickets to the public.

Re: What a Carry On
At Christmas I was talking to a couple of guys who go to Vegas for the big British fights. They told me they were getting a group together to go to Mayweather's next fight and I said I would go. The guy organizing the tickets has good connections in the States and gets his tickets generally off one guy in Chicago. He's has been buying tickets off this tout for 20 years but this time he got told to forget about the fight, the tickets wouldn't be released. That was the end of that.

You get no time off at all? Working in a sweatshop or somet hing?!
And don't worry Strongy, am sure you'll be on the list of 15,000 rich people who will get picked to fork out £100k for a ticket

I get 6 weeks off in the summer Coxy, so long weekends in Vegas are generally frowned upon .
Although the sweat shop comparisons aren't a million miles off, I do work in cramped conditions and get screamed at by tiny people!

You're a gimp prostitute for the local midget community?!
Vegas is nothing beyond a good sickie.. Friday off, fly then. Come back Monday a ruined man and back in to the gimp suit on Tuesday. Saying that, just looked at the flights/hotel prices for that weekend - eye watering to the extreme.

Already a ruined man, Coxy! Those midgets don't stand on ceremony.
No surprise on hotel prices. This fight is making a lot of people a lot of money! Just hope if there is a rematch, Manny gets it in the Cowboys stadium so fans can attend.

Gotta love boxing! Stories like this are part of the weird masochistic allure of the sport. It's like the Manny story with the suitcase, a million dollars, a limo and a reneged deal.

Can anyone explain the closed circuit ticket thing to me? What's the difference between this and say, watching it on TV at home or in a bar? Why would anyone pay for one of those tickets?

Some casinos show the fights on a big screen on closed circuit. The MGM will show it close circuit as will her sister hotels and other venues in Vegas. You have to pay in to the venue to watch the closed circuit coverage.

At least Hearn gets his tickets on sale so fans can make arrangements. This carry on is totally disrespectful to the fans.

Well, that sounds really, really stupid. But I guess tourists in Vegas don't have much of an option.

Struggling mate, despise Mayweather with a passion, There was something on SKY sports last night about the fight but he was so unbearably c*ntish, I had to switch off lest I kick the telly through the wall.
He'll win this at a canter (stinking the place out in the process) and people will sp*nk themselves dry over it.
I says something when I'm more interested in Klitschko fighting at the weekend and I don't give a f*ck about THAT fight either

It does stress me out that any Floyd win will be deemed as a 'Mayweather masterclass'.
Although if you've watched American commentary of Floyd or Pacquiao fights you'd swear they've never had a close fight in their lives. Commentators absolutely deify them and ignore the opponents.

Re: What a Carry On
I am excited about this fight. There are any number of reasons to be cynical or wearisome about this, it being four years too late, the ticketing price, the personality of Floyd generally and so on and so forth, but the truth is this is still a match up between two of the top five fighters in the world, and is still an event, that people outside of the hardcore fans are talking about and excited about. Also I find that much to be irritated with in the sport today, be it the proliferation of belts, fights not happening, the soap opera BS that seems an integral part of every fight being made if I reach the point where I can’t get excited about two of the best fighters in the world facing each other I may as well stop watching the sport, and I don’t want to do that particularly, so I am going to be glass half full type about this.

Just announced on SSN that tickets go on sale tonight, there's a whopping 500 (five hundred) available to the general public.
But 50 000 (fifty thousand) closed circuit tv tickets available (100 quid a pop) still think it's an absolute joke and has proper shafted the average fan.

That's the bit I can't get my head around Derby, it's nonsense.
I guess in Vegas they have a captive audience of tourists in the middle of the desert but I can't help think of the equivalent in the UK. Imagine being expected to pay £60 (or whatever the exchange is) to watch a fight on TV in a bar?! I'd rather defecate in my hands and clap!
To be honest when the first bell sounds I'll be up for the fight but the absolute circus of greed that has surrounded this fight for so long is laughable.

Its almost $100 to buy the fight on PPV in the States. The closed circuit event will have all the razzmatazz of Vegas and probably includes comps in one form or another.
I was in Vegas in the 90's when Oscar was fighting. I didn't go to the fight or watch it on closed circuit but the atmosphere in the casinos was electric. I imagine the closed circuit show is an event in itself.

I like a buffet Strongy, so that's a mitigating factor in favour of the 'closed circuit option', I suppose.
It sounds ludicrous to me personally though. I'd be loathe to pay $100 for the fight anyway but I'd rather watch it at home than in a bar full of starf**kers pretending to be a celebrities.

Re: What a Carry On
The British equivalent is going into a local casino, paying a one-off membership fee and watching it surrounded by some of the scummiest scumbags scumdom has to offer. I watched the Haye/Ruiz fight at one and, because I wore a shirt, people thought I owned the place. Such was the dress code that some bloke was in their wearing a tracksuit I don't know about the atmosphere being electric but it should have had an electric fence around it to stop the b*stards escaping. They did hand out complimentary nitcombs though
Wouldn't surprise me if Floyd had someone filming the fight on his mobile and for a mere $50 Floyd lets you watch it....I says lets you watch it, I mean lets you catch a glimpse as he hangs his arm out the window of his car on his way to the bank to deposit his $200million cheque

Of course, how else would I explain the rest of it? Also once watched a fight in "Sports Bar" in Leeds. Basically a snooker club that served beer. The "one off membership fee" was a whopping 50p plus a one drink minimum. Spent the night trying to watch the fight surrounding by wannabe yardies screaming "GWAN F*CK 'IM UP BWOI" whilst claimingto have just shot someone in ChapeltownStrongback wrote:DAVE667 wrote:The British equivalent is going into a local casino, paying a one-off membership fee and watching it surrounded by some of the scummiest scumbags scumdom has to offer. Whilst I would not have done it personally there were tons of people in Vegas without a ticket for Hatton Mayweather and I have to agree that the atmosphere in and around a big fight is electric. Tons of fighters and ex fighters kicking about and every bar in and around the MGM was absolutely buzzing. Not sure I would go just to watch it on Closed Circuit, but I do get it.

Re: What a Carry On
"Carry on Floyd" would make a good film I reckon. Shame most of the old cast are dead. Sid James would have made a good Bob Arum. Jim Dale as Floyd, Charles Hawtrey as Manny. Bernard Breslaw as Floyd senior. Kenneth williams as freddie roach.

I can see the point in closed circuit shows, as long as there's a bar and the screens are big enough then the atmosphere should be fantastic. Remember when all the pubs up near me used to do it for the England games, really added to it (I was a youngster at the time mind.)

Derby, exchange those tanked up Engerland fans for a room of vip wannabes in their Sunday best sipping grey goose. Do you think it's worth $100 to watch boxing in a bar?
That's all the 'closed circuit' thing is. Doesn't sound like anything unique to me.
I think I'm going to have to forget about this fight until they have gloves on, too much silliness going on.

That'll be some of them Dipper, but if we could get a 606v2 contingent then it'd be buzzing (I believe that's the correct word )
I don't really mind the closed circuit tv bit (although it would get right on my nerves it I was stuck in with a bunch of stuck up their own butts herberts) it's the tickets that get too me.
Still fuming over it now.
