1. They aren't reliant on the SNP for a stupid coalition......The SNP rise won't last...

2. The Tories have a majority of 4...........They had a majority of 40 with the Libs..

They have 40 right wing nutcases.............

3. Europe won't go away..........

4. They've got to find 12 billion for the NHS...........and other pledges they made when they started bottling it..

5. Labour can get a good leader.....Chuku Umunna hopefully.... Handsome, smart, younger than Dave and in the middle............Start a fresh..

Like I said the result isn't going to change my life...........

My advice to Cammy enjoy the moment you did well................But Major had a nightmare with a bigger majority.......

The problem Labour have is they effectively have 2 different battles to fight on 2 fronts. They cant hope to challenge the Tories without retaking effective control of Scotland

And I think regardless of political affiliation you have to take your hat off to Cameron. This is one of the more unlikely GE wins of all time I would suspect.

England was never in an unsettled enough phase to expect the electorate to once again shift main parties.  The world is slowly emerging from the violent turndown... people are largely breathing their sighs of relief that things might be looking better all round.  
As an outsider looking in I wasn't at all shocked by that initial exit poll.

In Scotland however - well congratulations to SNP!  Great result for a party that is only the embodiment of the increasing self-confidence of the Scottish people.  If people elsewhere are shocked by Labour's slide in Scotland they should perhaps simply disregard the emotions of a 'Party' - a party is an inanimate object.  The people haven't changed.  They've just changed their minds about their future - SNP is just the tool they're using to do it.
Labour were exposed as a Party using an alleged power base in Scotland to rule in England.  Scots seem to have told Labour 'We're no longer your comfort blanket.  If your ambition is to rule in England then go do your campaigning exclusively there.'

Some Muslim chap with an extraordinarily long name (both his and his party) got 30 votes.

The Lib Dems got 900 odd, Greens just over 1k.

Farage looks sick to his stomach which was quite amusing. He is barely raising a smile and sweating more than he usually does if that is even possible.

Getting worried luton south hasn't been announced yet. Shuker is a good MP but conservative candidate is decent one as well. lib Dems got alot of Asians standing so hope that doesn't come into play.

Well now...

There is no doubt this is no flash in the pan for the SNP. Why?

Firstly, the Tory party under Margaret Thatcher slowly poisoned the Scottish voters in the 1980s and early 90s. Issues such as higher than England poll taxes in Scotland, closures of coal mines/steelworks and privatisation - since then there has been a slow eradication of the Tory party once an option came along in the SNP. Secondly, the Labour party under Tony Blair done their own brand of poisoning in the form of a long line of scandals, the war in Iraq etc etc etc and slowly their power has been eradicated as SNP continued to be the party to turn to. The SNP have the added romantic caveat of independence which (45% of Scots at home and more abroad) hold close to their hearts and of course the Lib Dems implosion as well has been as a result of them jumping into bed with the Tories.

People in Scotland (and I think that is happening elsewhere slowly in the UK as well) now know there are options to the Tories and Labour party who have taken the pi$$ for so long now and felt they could trample over all and sundry as there were no other options. These last two general elections (one coalition government and one with a wafer thin majority) says that there are no dominant forces in British politics anymore that rule in large swathes across the UK. Those days have gone.

Only downhill from here in future elections for the SNP now..... Though Caledonian as far as Westminster is concerned...But hey enjoy a great result..

You're lucky to have had two top leaders..Salmond and now Sturgeon....Both have that human touch......

Labour took Scotland for granted ...That's for sure..

Scottish Labour are still stuck with limp Jim Murphy...Huge plus for sturgeon and her merry band of warriors..

I've not met once successful Scotsman that thinks the rise of SNP is a good thing. It's a bottom-feeding vote.

The only good that's come of it is that it strengthen's DC's case for 'English votes on English laws', an unquestionably good thing.

Truss take it from me the Laboutr party like the Tories are crushed in Scotland. There is no way back - both parties have had well over a hundred years of screwing Scotland and people have had enough and now the people have a viable option to vote for who are active in pushing for a lot of what Scots want.....independence. Labour and fat thud Gordon Brown killed many of the votes in Scotland with his illegal speech where (when polls in referendum a few days before the vote had yes vote level with no) he panicked fearing loss tried turning it into a Devo-max vote by promising this and that for Scotland if they voted no - promises never met. Another own goal by Labour adding to Blair's before that. The Labour party are a dead duck in Scotland.
