Went for what I consider to be the second best song on the list.

Whoever put Tik Tok by Ke$ha needs to be publicly ridiculed. That's making Adam's choice look good.

Some absolute dross up there but also a few belters. Starting to think my pick (which is a belting song by the way) won't get any votes.

My 2nd choice made it which was Respect by Aretha, surprised no-one went for Torn by Imbruglia.

I was going to go for it, but as it is not even my favourite version of the song it didn't see right. Also I suspected it was the kind of thing superfly would pick so I had to tread carefully.

Nice to see all 3 of my choices on the list - and what may well have been my 4th choice. Of those, mine will be the one with 0 votes at the end. GOSPEL.
Edit - I don't think I had Wuthering Heights as second choice in the end. Put This Woman's Work instead - not in the list.

Not sure superfly. I know Aretha Franklin's sister Irma did a version, it was used on a Levis commercial a few years ago I believe. I prefer that version to the Joplin one.

Martika, who had her toy soldiers hit at around the same time was hot. As was Belinda Carlisle. That was a good time for fit pop stars.

Re: Culture Cup 2.0 Rd 2 (Music)
I went for Like A Prayer.
When you look at the withered, sanctimonious old crab she has turned into, it’s easy to forget just how challenging and ground breaking Madge was around the late 80’s and through some of the 90’s.
Like A Prayer is just a brilliant song, and the video is even better. She was really pushing boundaries back then with the black Jesus, the stigmata, the burning crosses and the police brutality of black men. That song is still relevant today, 25 years later, in the context of police brutality to black men in America.
It’s got Prince playing guitar! What more do you want in a song.
It even got the Vatican to stop fiddling with little boys for 5 minutes and take the time to condemn Madonna to hell. She stuck it right up the Church and massive swathes of middle-America, and for that alone, it deserves to win.
