Danny Cipriani arrested on suspicion of drink driving
Ohhh, dear
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/england-rugby-star-danny-cipriani-5805544
England rugby star Danny Cipriani was arrested on suspicion of drink driving today after a 5am car crash.
Police breathalysed Cipriani after his £60,000 Mercedes collided with a Toyota in Chelsea, West London.
The 27-year-old World Cup hopeful was taken to a police station in west London before being released on bail.
Cipriani had scored two tries in England’s 73-12 thrashing of the Barbarians just hours earlier.
The fly half put in an impressive performance, scoring 33 of England’s points.
Police confirmed they were called to reports of two cars in a collision at 5.15am. No one was injured.
A Met police spokeswoman: “The driver of the Mercedes, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
“He was taken to a west London police station where he was later released on police bail.”

If the rate England players are putting themselves out if contention keeps up, then Lancaster's World Cup squad will pick itself.

At the rate England are going they might steal the convicts tag from Australia!
Re: Danny Cipriani arrested on suspicion of drink driving
England have no experience when the pressure comes on…only 2 players survive from France 2011, a debacle for England, Youngs and guess who…the chief fool Haskell! Already dubious performers in tournaments- the annual and perfect preparation being the 6 Nations- I predict ignominy in the autumn and a short walk at dawn for Stewie, or a long stay in the Tower.

This sums up the difference between Cipriani in is flash car and Powell in a goldf cart doesnt it. What a prize tinker, 2 years of toil and a shot at redemption straight down the nightclub toilet.
On the plus s de for him the french clubs will offer him more money now he has no chance of seeing an engalnd shirt again.

Ill discipline or injuries. We'll lose players either way. I mean, you get paid enough, get a bloody cab instead driving fgs..

Can't work out if it would have been worse for him to headbutt someone instead.

MIke Tindall was done for drink driving twice and it didn't affect his England career. MInd you he should have gone to jail the second time

The world is a lot less tolerant of this sort of thing now and quite rightly, we could be having a conversation this morning about how he had killed someone. Plenty of people in other occupations would loose their jobs with a conviction for DD. I suppose we should reserve judgement a little until proven, but the evidence does not look good and Cipriani does have plenty form.
It may not end his England career, but it will end his WC hopes. SL has already set the precedent and this cannot be ignored.
If Cipriani did not realise that he has a problem with alcohol before this event then he really does need to think about it now. If he can ever come to terms with that and do something about it, then he may get his chance again in the future. With young kids like Ford and Farrell to play against though, that is a big if!

Turns out Hartley was driving the other car. Then Manu turns up and a fight breaks out.

Surely Manu would wait for the Police women to turn up first.

Devils advocate a bit here but has it all actually been confirmed yet or is it just suspicion, we all know what the gutter press are like.
If he's found guilty then yep that's him gone the way of Manu and Hartley but if he is found innocent then should he stay in squad or will SL punish him anyway for putting himslef in that position in first place?

Re: Danny Cipriani arrested on suspicion of drink driving
I think he probably would have BW.
Up until this point he looked to have really sorted his head out, and some of the rugby he was playing is very impressive - playing his attacking game, but showing genuine control of games aswell.
I suspect he will not go now...and whilst Slade is young and inexperienced, has been quality this season and covers 10, 12,13. And he will benefit more from the WC experience rather than Cips sitting in the stands whilst Farrell and Ford play.

Thank you Danny and goodnight. Brilliant swan song at the weekend vs BaaBaas.
But if convicted, sadly I do not see him playing for England again.

I do not think he would have done - he would have been on standby in case of injury to Ford or Farrell. slade offers a touch more as a utility player - covering 10. 12 and 13. Cips covered 10 and 15, but then watson and Nowell also cover 15

Cips never really on Lancaster's radar. I doubt he would have made the final 31.

Trying to think of a reason why that isn't a good analogy and can't. Cips doesnt slag off his fellow players (at least in public - but then he hasnt written an 'autobiography' yet), and had an 'argument' with a bus rather than Carl Fearns (although with similar results).
Good call

He will have failed roadside testing which is not evidential for court hence arrested on suspicion of drink driving. If he fails the evidential test in the cop shop he will not be charged until sober - ie many hours later at least.
So the "arrested on suspicion" and "charged with" can be a day apart

High profile g/f, nightclubs, booze, got slapped in training at Wasps for being a d/h - by Lewsey.
Yes some parallels there.
But Cips has since then shown more stickability and consistency and form at club level, which makes this current case more tragic.

LT - he cannot be charged until he is capable of understanding the charges against him, in the old days he's have been given a night in the cells to sleep it off rather than being sent home to do so.
What a forking idiot though - as the arrest was in Kensington was he at Victor Ubogus club in Chelsea?

I have to say while I think drink driving is a very serious offence and shoulds always entail jailtime IMO - its nothing to do with rugby is it? Should this mean the end of his career? Its not the same as losing your temper on the pitch and headbutting someone ( which should be a crimi9nal offense)

"Hullo?"
"Jonny? It's Stuart"
"Oh, hi"
"Erm, are you busy in the autumn?"
"Not really. A bit of kick coaching. Meditating, mainly"
"Could you, well, keep it free? Only I might need someone who's not a complete idiot at short notice, and I know you're retired and all, but it would only be for a handful of games."
For it is written in the lore of England that in its hour of need the once and future ten shall rise out ofToulon Avalon across the water and answer his country's call.

He must have been very, very drunk to need that long to sober up.
Makes Lancaster's decision a bit tougher, though. Still expect him to be dropped.

Why so long? Care was caught on New Years Day and convicted within two weeks. May it be a case of only just over the limit by breathaliser and under by blood?

Re: Danny Cipriani arrested on suspicion of drink driving
As someone in the know about DD case's this is a very strange scenario and would indicate that their are extenuating factors around the case that have delayed any charge!
Most DD cases are cut and dry with the accused blowing over or under in the station and then either being released or charged, normally if they are charged they are given a date/time to appear in magistrates court on the spot.
This is public information hence why the media are normally so on the ball.

RFU no action on Cipriani until end of police investigation (believed to be August). So he will meet up in camp with the squad on June 22nd.

This is all really worrying. Once they find out that Robshaw stole money from his sister's moneybox when he was 10 and that Nowell was caught scrumping cider apples, England will be at crisis manning levels.

Re: Danny Cipriani arrested on suspicion of drink driving
if he did not blow over the limit he would not have been arrested on suspcion of drink driving - unless he refused to provide a specimen but then he just gets arrested for failing to provide. Dunno whsat has happened here - makes no sense to me unless he blew over at the roadside, in the tolerance are of the evidential machine nd thusd had a blood test which is not immediate I don't think

Don't worry Gwlad, I am sure they will not come looking for you, the diminutive that refers to physical size, not intellect.
I believe Tindall has some sort of condition that slows down his body converting alchohol to sugar or whatever it does. The alchohol stays in his blood stream for much longer than "normal" people.
Strage about the lack of charges, if he was over at the station he would have been arrested by now. What is there to investigate, he was or he wan't. Breath / blood tests are prety conclusive, if he was over he would have been charged. As no one was hurt it is unlikely to haver been a major smash and therefore dangerous driving, more like DWDCAT.
If I was Cips' lawyer, I would be asking what was being investigated and that if the tests were negative, this information be shared with the public. If they were positive charge him, any further investigations would not be inhibited by that.

Tindall had received a blow to his lower back against Wales and damage supposedly slowed his processing of alcohol.
