Olly - for once, I'll give you all that.
A very good second day of CC cricket for Burkey. Congrats to him and Curran for their fourfers. The match looked very different when Leics were 100/0 in response to our first dig of 261.
Not won yet but Leics would be more than happy to swap places with us ....

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Fascinating day's play. Our middle order of four wicket keepers batted a good deal more effectively in this innings.
Earlier on I thought I was seeing things when five Leics wickets fell in the space of a few minutes.
It's worth noting that in the very low scoring Kent v Derby match - the Derby batsmen have found life a lot easier in the fourth innings and look likely to chase down their target with little difficulty. So it would be helpful if Surrey could follow Olly's advice and eke out a lead of at least 300... ( eek!)

Corporal - I had also noticed that about Derbys in the 4th innings and was going to flag it. As a rule of thumb though, it is still normally difficult to score the highest match total batting last and that's one reason why I would rather be in our position than Leics' this morning.
Although we are already in a strong position, it's important we don't aid Leics by giving them any encouragement and momentum. They would feel back in the game if they could take our last 4 wickets in the opening half-hour. I want to be greedy now and push on for a lead of at least 350 . A lot would appear to be resting on Davies although I have a feeling that Trem will be looking to biff a few.

Davies either thinks Surrey have enough runs already or he has full confidence in Clive's batting.

Solidarity among the wicket keepers:
In first innings Davies 0, Wilson 3, Foakes 4.
In second innings Davies 47*, Wilson 42, Foakes 46

Heard Churchy say that Davies might have a broken bone in his hand. Possibly that's one reason why he seemed keen to give the strike to Clive. Believe Matt Teale from Guildford CC will again be fielding as 12th man in place of Davies.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Leics 26/1 off 9 overs at lunch.
Having taken a wicket with the first ball of Leics' second innings - that's Dunn for you, his pace means there's always a chance of something happening - we would have liked another. However, 1 down at this stage is fine.
Important that Trem maintains control. Just 5 off his 4 overs so far. If he can bowl almost 20 in the day and have an economy rate of under 2, that'll allow the other seamers to be more aggressive in their approach.
I reckon we'll also see a bit of #ansariyouknowtherest. A wicket or two for him would be a real bonus on this field.

At this rate a lead of 100 would have been enough I hope that has not jinxed it! Now back to work with Leicestershire 33 for 4

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Wonder if Curran is thinking about a tenfer. Suspect that will be just out of reach but with 7 wickets already and a maiden half century he's certainly having a good match. Can understand the reluctance to leave him out even though in Stewie's words, ''he needs a rest''.

162 - 8 at tea. Curran has taken 5 - 45 so far. What a match he's having. It's surely got to be #CurranForEngland. He's got impeccable Saffer lineage so it's got to be odds on.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
It's Over as the Big O would say! Nice finish by James T Burke with the last 2 wickets and a Michelle Fivefer for man of the match Tommy Curran! Who'd have thunk a 178 run win when Leics were 100-0 in their 1st inns?! Apart from Olly obviously!
Well played lads, an excellent performance after being put in!

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Burke cleans up the last two wickets in two balls. Interesting match and an excellent performance by Surrey. Plenty of positives from the game. Not least the fight back from a very perilous position on day one. It was clearly a good bowling pitch but Curran took full advantage - and our two innings both of 250+ were very creditable. Twice we blew away the tail for virtually no runs. Good team performance with everyone contributing. Star performances from young players Curran, Sibley, Burke. Team selection was good - Ansari chipped in with a key wicket but there would have been no need to have two front line spinners.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Burkey Burke finishes it off. Comfortable win in the end by 170 odd runs. Makes the choice of bowlers interesting for next week's CC match against Glam at the home of cricket. Doubt if we can afford the luxury of MOM Curran or anyone else having a rest as we'll be several main batters light - Pietersen, Sanga, Roy will all be missing, not sure about Wilson. One who'll definitely be playing is Sibley - his first innings knock in this match was vital and shouldn't be overlooked.
Meanwhile, I'm off to the mess - open the doors, Corporal!

Meanwhile today, a certain Sam Curran, batting at No 8 for the second XI scored 51*, and then, coming on as first change bowler, took a wicket in his first few overs.
Wonder whether Davies will be fit to play in the next match if he's got a damaged hand.... I see Chris Lewis has just come out of jug - we may need to call upon him.

What's the case with those two? Is Sanga off to play elsewhere? What about KP - he was on the news yesterday at a charity golf day saying he's in the form of his life - so is he still playing for us, if so when does he play? Just when he feels like it?

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
KingDave - Sanga will be on Test duty with Sri Lanka.
Pietersen came back to Surrey to try to reclaim his England place and the Club were happy to have him on that basis. Now it seems clear his England career won't be revived, it appears he'll be concentrating on earning a crust mainly through overseas t20 tournaments. That said, he's expected to play in Surrey's t20 game at Arundel on Sunday, possibly his final appearance for the Club. Furthermore, I don't know of anyone who got rich betting on Pietersen's next steps! There's a bit more about all this on the ''Surrey news/articles'' thread.

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Thanks Guildford. From what KP was saying on the TV I presumed he was going to keep on playing and trying to get into the England squad, but he's always going to do what's best for KP! With Sanga away, Roy away and Davies possibly out, we are going to be so short of batsmen for our next game that Solanki and Harinath might get to play!

Re: Surrey vs Leicestershire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Cheers, Dave.
One thing I had forgotten about when I posted earlier is that Henriques' contract covers t20 and CC games. Normally though he can't play in the CC as only one overseas player is allowed. With Sanga absent, I assume Henriques will come in at Guildford. That gives another valuable bowling option. He's also no mug with the bat at all although obviously not in Sanga's class.
Things then get even more confusing with there almost certainly being a desire among the powers that be to somehow squeeze Batty back into the team.

Just watched the highlights from the 3 days and...
The LBW decisions Ansari and Foakes got in the 2nd innings were absolutely outrageous. Ansari was outside the line of off stump by about a foot and a half and Foakes's basically hit him on the thigh pad.
Shocking umpiring
