Porto (8th) v Juventus (5th)

Injuries: Pepe Reina, Kadu, Jose Angel and Casemiro (Porto); Andrea Barzagli, Roberto Pereyra, Younes Bnou Marzouk and Theo Walcott (Juventus).

Porto:

Juventus:

Azzy’s Analysis:
Porto set up knowing that they would be in for a tough time defensively and made a valiant effort; however Juventus knew exactly how to exploit the lack of pace in Porto’s back three and with Depay and Neymar coming inside, Porto were unable to cope against this and against Juve’s numbers in midfield. Benzema was a largely peripheral figure as the rest of the Juve team took the reins but Porto were unable to make this count. Porto’s attacking shape gave them some chances but Ribery and Brahimi were unable to make the most of their unorthodox setup. Overall, a convincing win for Juve, and disappointment for Porto. But they have the players to come back from this with a win next week.

Result: Porto 0-3 Juventus (Neymar, Depay, Vidal)

PSG (9th) v Dortmund (11th)

Injuries: Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Zoumana Camara, Salvatore Sirigu and Sergio Busquets (PSG); Kurt Zouma, Sven Bender, Burak Camoglu and Jakub Blaszczykowski (Dortmund).

PSG:

Dortmund:

Azzy’s Analysis:
A rather dull game in the end, PSG’s deep line meant that Dortmund’s counter attacking had no potency. Meanwhile, PSG’s bite in midfield was stifled by Dortmund’s clever midfield play. Ibrahimovic was well handled by Pepe, partly due to lack of supply, while Tevez was busy without being close to threatening. I felt that PSG could have won had they been more adventurous, but that it could easily have opened up the door for a Dortmund win. Overall, everyone goes home unsatisfied, including the supporters.

Result: PSG 0-0 Dortmund

Real Madrid (2nd) v Chelsea (3rd)

Injuries: Javier Mascherano, Alvaro Medran, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Andreas Pereira (Real Madrid); Thibaut Courtois, Cesar Azpilicueta, John Obi Mikel and Alexis Sanchez (Chelsea).

Real Madrid:

Chelsea:

Azzy’s Analysis:
Real Madrid are up for the title fight, putting up a hell of a performance against a strong Chelsea side that came in woefully underprepared for their opponents. Real’s front four were a dominant force and with Chelsea starting a young keeper, they were able to steer four past the poor youngster as the Chelsea defence was overworked all game. Real could have won by more had they not reverted to a 4-5-1 formation, thus taking Hazard and Ronaldo out of the game. Lucky for Chelsea they did that else it could have been even worse. Chelsea will be fine with a more composed and prepared game plan next week.

Result: Real Madrid (Aguero 2, Kroos, Hazard) 4-0 Chelsea

Arsenal (7th) v Bayern Munich (1st)

Injuries: Nacho Monreal, Raphael Varane, Mathieu Flamini and Hector Herrera (Arsenal); Manuel Neuer, Juan Bernat, Willian and Claudio Pizarro (Bayern Munich).

Arsenal:

Bayern Munich:

Azzy’s Analysis:
A fiery game, one that was a great advert for the league. Both teams played similar styles, asked their players to get stuck in, and the fans benefitted. I felt Cazorla was too involved in the middle and that Arsenal exploited that well through Modric and Marchisio; on the other hand, Arsenal’s defence was less able and so Bayern’s wingers had a big impact on the game. Overall, these are two of the best teams in the league and I wouldn’t bet against either side winning the title this season.

Result: Arsenal (Turan, Marchisio) 2-2 Bayern Munich (Costa, Robben)

Atletico Madrid (10th) v Barcelona (6th)

Injuries: Jose Gimenez, Saul Niguez, Michael Essien and Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid); Alex Corredera, James Rodriguez, Gabi and Paul Pogba (Barcelona).

Atletico Madrid:

Barcelona:

Azzy’s Analysis:
Barcelona failed to respect their opponents, at least verbally. However Atletico really let themselves down in their preparation and as such that translated itself into an old-fashioned pasting. Messi and Suarez were so over-dealt with that the Barca midfield was left to run proceedings, opening up easy chances for Messi to put away. Had Atletico concentrated on setting up their team correctly, nor marking an Arsenal midfielder for example, and looking to play their own game, they would have been in a much better position. Meanwhile, Barcelona were lucky that their opponents failed to prepare as better sides than Atletico would relish playing against that Barca midfield. Overall a good win for Barca but Atletico really need to knuckle down if they’re to win games at this level.

Result: Atletico Madrid (Pjanic) 1-4 Barcelona (Messi 2, Suarez, Rakitic)

You should have said something Bambam, could have postponed it or something.

Not to worry, glad to win and glad to see Bayern drop points.
