Batty goes for a very handy 37, and a potentially match winning partnership of 83 with the Devon destroyer

We are favourites - as you've pointed out many times, not often the highest score of the game comes in the fourth innings
Sorry for any repetition. Unfortunately I found out at Guildford that I had to say the same thing several times before it was accepted ...
I'll never accept any views bar my own uneducated ones
I suspect many became well aware of that during the Guildford game.

Useful last wicket partnership.
Love the Crinfo profile for Luke Fletcher. "He looks something of a throwback: a burly, old-fashioned county seamer liable to grumble his way eccentrically through his most frustrating spells."

I do though think it's fair to politely ask - as we enter the 61st over with all our bowling having been done by seamers - whether we wouldn't have been better off with Batty's place going to a recognised batsman like Solanki. I doubt the wicket will ever turn into a spinner's paradise and, in any case, we have Ansari if some slow stuff is wanted for Derbys' second dig.
Tbf Batty probably scored more runs than Solanki would've done anyways......
...
Somewhat unexpectedly (certainly by me!), Batty is our highest aggregate run scorer in this match.

There it is
48/5 with White in ahead of Poynton again - I'd missed that in the first innings.

Re: Surrey vs Derbyshire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Well what a win that is for that young side.
That win puts a bit of light between ourselves and everyone else but Glamorgan in the table. Lancs are still way out in front having played as many games as us. Glamorgan are 32 points behind us with two games in hand and are looking in a reasonably strong position after day 2 vs Leicestershire.

Whisper it quietly given how far there still is to go in the season but those are the sort of wins that successful sides manage to pull off. Away from home with a lot of quality missing for varying reasons, a lot of young players in the side and a captain under pressure.

Re: Surrey vs Derbyshire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Very, very good effort. The stand in batting did enough, the young bowlers performed well as a unit, with more than a little helping hand from Norah to finish things off: he had a great game.
Realistically, Div 2 looks now as if two from three will go up: Lancs, Glam and us, although of course sudden slumps or rises in form can change things dramatically. Our penultimate game - away at Lancs - could be decisive for the hopes of all three of us. By my calculation, this starts the day after England's season ends (14 Sept) - so maybe no Jimmy or Jos for Lancs, but can we rely on mid-September Manchester weather if we need a result?

A draw away at Lancs is probably better than everyone else will do this season...(If you look at it from that angle).
Yes Glamorgan have games in hand but always rather have the points on the board

Re: Surrey vs Derbyshire LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Excellent performance by Surrey today. Important not to underestimate contribution from Sibley's batting in the second innings. Delighted to see Burke excelling with bat as well as ball. It was a surprise when he was recruited on a two year contract from Somerset, but so far the signs are very promising.
And Batty confirmed the faith all posters on this site had as to his importance to the Surrey team on a green wicket like this. The old pro has 6400 first class runs and 562 first class wickets.
The bar in the mess is open
