'Don't hook with a hooker'

Finally decided to make my own topic after years of being on here and the old 606. My throat and mouth are rough with a what I think is a throat infection (docs in the morning...), so can't sleep and on the whisky cure.

Been rewatching a few recent fights and just caught the Lee/Korobov fight. Close fight that Koro was edging untill the 6 where Koro lands a short left hook follow by a wild right, leaving himself wide open to Lee's own punch. I'm not saying this is a textbook example of the topic but it got me thinking of Ali - Frazier 1.

After the layoff Ali came back slower, without his silky quick footwork and had to change up his style to suit. Pre suspension Ali would of danced around Frazier for 15 rounds imo, but the rusty and slower Ali opted to stand and trade with Frazier and ate some huge hooks from him. I can't take anything away from the stalking Frazier though, that guy could cut off the ring so well. Did Ali have no choice but to slug with him and trade off against Fraziers big hooks??

Anyway I was hoping if you guys had any good examples for me of people making this mistake?

Amir Khan ALWAYS makes mistakes.

Very gifted technical fighter good footwork and speed, but will let his heart rule his head.

Perfect example is his fight vs Danny Garcia, won the first two rounds handily, had Garcia cut up and swelling and his dad was screaming at his son in the corner, round 3 comes and yet again Khan is beating him to the punch in and out making him look bad.......

Then Kahn throws a stupid combo in range with his hands down by his side and Garcia just throws a Hail Mary shot straight into his chin. End of the fight.

Takaloo vs Alexander is a great example of knowing when to hook............

Tyson vs Reggie Gross too.....Gross actually seemed to stun Tyson...before being stiffened.

In terms of elite / world-title level guys, I think William Joppy might have fought one of the most incredibly stupid fights of all time against Felix Trinidad. He hooked with a great left hooker in that one, amongst doing basically every other single thing wrong as well. Talk about begging to be knocked out.
