Finally some good news
Sky Sports reporting that Ward is in talks to face Kovalev with the likely date to be in the new year. Talks have apparently been been 'productive'. Probably still some way to go but this is a fight to get the juices flowing...unless Mayweather calls out Gavin Rees

Poor old GGG.............
First Froch retires to duck him and now Ward is moving up to face the main man at 175 and is ducking him.... ...
Fancy Ward for this.........Take kovo's pop away and I'm not sure he's all that !!..

Re: Finally some good news
Easier said than done. Kovalev isn't a one punch plodder like Pavlik and Cloud (who Hopkins defrocked). He's a volume puncher who has pop in everything he throws.
If Ward signs for this one it will be hugely impressive. It probably won't be a great fight as Ward doesn't make for those but it's a tremendous challenge. That's what makes a fighter great.

After Ward beats Kov, he should call out GGG for a fight at 168.

Gennady's team are doing a great job. He will be rated p4p number 1 when Floyds gone, and his best win will be Murray.

Ah yeah, my bad - he calls out everyone (and then runs during the fight). Weird how it's two negative spoilers who are actively seeking the fight. Looks like GGG's trying to round up all the belts so they'd need a title at 160 I reckon.

GGG at the moment, in gentleman's terms, is going to the bar, leaving with a 15 stone rotter and getting lauded as the world's biggest Lothario. Then he meets up with his mates the next day and says he could have banged any bird in the bar if they weren't so frigid!

Hopkins would earn GGG his biggest payday. No need for a belt.
Can see why GGG is scared of Lara. Wouldnt land a thing and his team knosw it. Funny how people arent so quick to judge when its the puncher who doesnt want the fight

Cotto's the champ. Golovkin will clean house at 160 - like it or not.

I like Golovkin, just wish he'd fight someone. Seems happy trading on his reputation knocking out B listers. If he was serious about making a fight against an elite fighter, he wouldn't be calling out welterweights and super middles.

Yep, he needs a big fight. Think he'll take Lemieux and then hopefully Canelo/Cotto.

If he is Moving up a weight to fight an undefeated champ, who has an 86% KO ratio and who is crushing everything in sight, is hardy what I call the act of ducking... What has GGG done that proves he is a harder fight than Kovalev, who is also the bigger man..

Re: Finally some good news
There's plenty of people on other forums that have already called this ducking GGG so there is precedence there.
This fights been.talked about a while, apparently, so hopefully it gets made now. I've got to say that I doubt that Ward takes that power. He'll be the favourite, and rightly so skills wise but stepping up since his first time since the Olympics with only a handful of fights in the past 5 years, I think its Kovalevs to lose.

So these people must be dismissing the fact that Kovalev is just as good if not better than GGG, and going up to fight him will be an extremely tough fight and a fantastic win.
If he fights GGG and wins, there is always the chance people will put it down to GGG not having the same effect at a higher weight.. and probably not actually as big a fight at a Kovalev fight.
Why if Kovalev offered him the fight and he fought GGG would that not be ducking Kovalev?

Re: Finally some good news
You can't 'duck' someone who isn't in your weight division. That's the way I see it. It's alright for fans to be making fantasy fights between champions but they're exactly that, fantasy.
Golovkin isn't a super middle so it's not like Ward is abandoning that division to escape him. Laughable for anyone to call him a coward after he's beaten 168lbs beasts like Froch and Kessler. Even more laughable if he's jumping up to fight Kovalev.
Don't mind the praise GGG gets, he's a really good fighter and I'd like to see how good he can become. But the big bad wolf he is not.

Re: Finally some good news
Ward could always insist the GGG fight is a 172 catchweight or something....
and definitely f**k him....But he knows the Golden-Russian is full of crap..
Fanboy bollox.........GGG and Kovo aren't American or British so they walk on water..
GGG has been champion five years..........Let's have a look ;
Ouma, Simon, Nuna, Tapia, Fuchigama, Proksa, Rosada, Ishida, Macklin, Stevens, Adama, Geale, Rubio and Monroe jr...
and we have Quigg, Mayweather, Brook, Ward and Khan types taking s**t !!!!!
Makes a sensible man want to cry !!
Still we must get behind him because "He's a real fighter!!"..

Re: Finally some good news
Ward and Golovkin haven't ever ducked a fight - anyone who suggests otherwise is merely trolling and should be ignored.
Golovkin is aiming to take over 160. As the likes of Cotto, Sturm, Quillen and Martinez weren't interested in facing him (for whatever reason) he's been left to churn up any fighters that were. With Ward and now Froch exiting 168, there isn't anything up there tempting enough to deter Golovkin from his aim of taking over at middleweight. Cotto, Canelo, Lemieux and Lee are all interesting fights with the likes of Saunders, Eubank and Ogogo coming up on the rails.
Ward has already wiped out 168 and so I can see the attraction in moving on. Kovalev, Stevenson and Beterbiev are all monsters who'd provide huge challenges for him.
Once Golovkin wins the championship at 160, I'm sure he'll be open to big fights at 168 (if there are any - usually fighters will gravitate towards the special ones - meaning the big fights could come to Golovkin).

Re: Finally some good news
I think Ward's hiatus due to his promoter problems may have made him tight at the weight. 18 months away from making 168lbs has probably madessure he won't fight in that division again.
The Kovalev fight makes perfect sense. The best at 168 (from 2 years ago) taking on the best at 175. Could be a very interesting bout. It's clear Stevenson and Kovalev aren't going to fight each other so let's get this fight on. It's a pick 'em for me.

Funnily enough I was talking to some people from Boston during the week
I didn't get around to discussing boxing with them but I should have asked if 'American Ward beats European bums Kovalev and Golovkin on the same night' is a Boston thing...
