Who will win it then?
Montreal Masters
Started yesterday. Who's going to win it then?
Federer not playing. I voted for Djokovic.
Order of play here. Kyrgios v Verdasco looks interesting.

4 votes for Rafa? Can't see it myself.

To the court itself. They've put these bright red borders on the barriers. It really distracting as you watch!

Gone for Nishikori. Novak has to slip at some point and his focus won't be high here. I don't think Andy will beat Robredo and Rafa is very unlikely to suddenly find hard court form. No one else looks plausible.

I've gone for Rafa. Despite it all, he's one elite title (MS/GS/WTF) from a reasonably good post surgery year (with the caveat that at 29, he probably does not have enough time for gradual improvements)

Kyrgios is basically a complete dick. It's not 'being a character' or some kind of endearing quality. He's just an ignorant git who I wish only defeat and career bad luck on.

Re: Montreal Masters
Solid win by Rafa just now, some great shots "of old," so not bad for a first match back on HC for a while...
Cilic lost 1st set to Tomic...
Murray at 4-4, 1st set...
Monfils has two pts for 6-6 in 3rd set...
& Querrey doing hard battle w/Goffin...
Still plenty of good tennis left today....

I'm not against a bit of trash talk per se, but it should at least have a touch of wit about it.
What he said was just pathetically puerile.

Re: Montreal Masters
Reports say that Stan was upset enough to denounce Kyrgios on Twitter, asking for the authorities to do something about it.
The Australian was completely out of order but you would have thought an old hand like Stan would have just ignored it.
Kyrgios is in danger of wasting his talent. Anyone can be a complete Muppet but hardly anyone can play tennis really well.

Re: Montreal Masters
I see Kyrgios' defence is that Wawrinka was 'getting lippy' with him. Is sledging that common in tennis? I know there have been a few clashes before, but didn't think it happened that often.
He's just a bit of a spoilt brat. I switch between finding him amusing and dissappointing. Even the insult is a bit of a playground insult, surprised Stan has risen to it really.
I like Kyrgios and enjoy watching him play, but he needs to grow up.

Its unclear whether Stan heard him at the time - I would guess he probably didn't. Seems perfectly reasonable for Stan to say afterwards that its unacceptable though - I can't imagine Vekic is pleased about details of her private life being shouted out on a tennis court.

Re: Montreal Masters
Unbelievable. Probably the nastiest, most offensive thing I've ever heard was uttered on a tennis court.
If they give warnings for swear words I don't know what this should receive. I think a punch in the face followed by a round of applause would probably be the most appropriate.

I know it's bad but if Kyrgios didn't use an audible obscenity I'm struggling to see what rule he broke.
What I find more shocking is the amount of you guys that think Nadal has a better chance of winning this than Murray or Nishikori.

I agree, it's a bit personal to be considered 'banter' but I'd guess there has been far worse said on court before, certainly has in other sports. I would like to hear what Stan said to him, which he described as "lippy"
XXX slept with your girlfriend is such a childish statement to make. I just view it as very immature and not really that insulting.

So that being the case what next??? what has to be said that is insulting and something is done about it. Its kindergarten "humour" I suppose and it should be allowed because after all the boy hasn't grown up yet has he and he is competing in a man's world
I would like to say that he opens his mouth before he puts his brain in to gear but I am seriously doubting whether he has one

People swearing on court? Kyrgios himself does this...but also Murray and, even, Federer has previously.
Del Potro insulting Murrays mother. Don't remember what was said, but remember Murray being upset because he had bought his mother into it.
These are off the top of my head and potentialy more insulting. I think what he said was the sort of thing that gets thrown around by 18/19 year old lads full of testosterone all the time. Once older and mature no one finds this sort of thing funny or acceptable. Or really that insulting.
I'd not be that insulted if someone told me that someone else had slept with my wife. I'd laugh at it.

Re: Montreal Masters
Its the context as well though. Wawrinka has recently left his wife and the comments were directed at his new gf. The ATP has its reputation to uphold, and if they accept personal insults, which is what it is, it will go up in flames.
Swearing can be forgiven, primarily because it can be the product of frustration, same as raquet breaking. His comments are personal and arent that of a child, theyre of a thug and he needs to be dealt with like one.
His age is a pee pee poor excuse, hes competing with adults and must act like one, its indefensible.
I only hope he meets roger in the near future, and Roger will teach him a real lesson on how to behave and win.

Really???? I wonder if your wife would think it that funny Im glad you are not my husband..what if the person who did so was in your professional life and made such a comment to again financial advantage and announced that juicy little comment in a public meeting.??
. I would remind you that this was said in the middle of a tennis match in front of viewing thousands ??? In order to gain such an advantage
Yes it was juvenile and as such unacceptable in the world of MEN'S professional tennis.

Yeah I means its the fact that its personal that goes too far, it embarrasses HER, she'll be in the papers now, as well as him.
If someone had a pop as Rogers wife and kids during a match, there would be damnation to pay, and rightly so.

He's been fined for it. They've not released how much the fine is.
I agree it is unacceptable, he should be punished and they can't allow it to keep on happening. But what he actually said wasn't really that bad.
Perhaps Kokkinakis did "bang" her before Stan and her got together. Everyone has a past...Stan would probably know about it. It's a very childish attempt to wind him up I think.

To be honest, I think Wawrinka, who as we know is not averse to handling matters in the change room, handled it well. Didn't respond during the match. Didn't even really rant on twitter, just said it's disappointing for a colleague to do that.

It just crosses a line, when you look at the standard Roger and Rafa set way back, you see just how embarrassing it is.legendkillarV2 wrote:Guest82 wrote:Perhaps Kokkinakis did "bang" her before Stan and her got together. Re: Montreal Masters
Huh? Vekic and Kokkinakis were rumoured to be seeing each other last year - when both were 18. I suspect the comment is probably true. However, the language used shows a lack of respect for Vekic and was clearly intended to offend. A fine is insufficient in my view. Should have been more severe.

Isner and Kyrgios racing along - basically one minute per game this set. Isner a set up (courtesy of one shocking game from NK). 4-3 in the 2nd on serve.
