I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere other than just here...but I can't find it. He's only signed on for 1 year so regardless of where he lives, he might not be around next season (if he's still in Edinburgh I hope he is)

Might have come from the ER forum - maybe not the most reliable source.
Like a good rumour though it is now deemed to be fact!

He'll be given a coaching or ambassadorial role like Kellock.
Or be put in charge of the formal Edinburgh People With Ginger Pubes Positive Discrimination Programme (EPWGPPDP).

He's only 28 - would be strange for him to retire from playing yet stay in Edinburgh when he's in his prime.

Presumably, as an MFL, there's a mandatory weekly back, sack and crack.

Tbh, I reckon Grant could do what Hardie does just as well at intl level. He just hasn't had the opportunity to showcase what he could offer internationally. If Hardie does join ER - maybe a 3yr deal? - then it would be a like for like replacement.
Grant would fit an English Aviva Premiership team well, maybe the likes of Gloucester or Newcastle. Who knows, would a SA team or Japan be out of the question?

I think Grant and Hardie are differents sorts of players, but fundamentally Hardie is faster which gives him an edge in terms of getting into the right positions to compete for the ball, and in ball carrying. In purely rugby terms I would rate Hardie a better player, and more similar to Watson (also faster than Grant, although not as powerful a ball carrier as Hardie). Grant is a workhorse though and a great servant to Edinburgh. If he wants to stay we should certainly accommodate him.

Good team. We'll miss Bresler at lock but I presume he's carrying a knock. I'm really pleased that Dean is able to come straight back in. Dean and Hoyland are certainly ones to watch - very exciting attacking players.
The back row is class.

A couple of familiar names but no-one stellar in that Treviso side. Barbieri and Nitoglia are good players, but we ought to have more than enough.

Didnt realise Tom Palmer was with Treviso now.
That backline isnt very depleted except at halfback. Could be a match against our less than experienced one if they get good ball. Nullify their pack to stop their outside backs getting anything to play off.

Re: Pro12: Benetton Treviso v Edinburgh Rugby 12th Sept
Utterly atrocious defending there. All it seems to take is one missed tackle, and Treviso are down the other end of the pitch. Theres no cover defence. I dont know where Tonks is, but hes not covering the backline.
And to top it all off, we get yellow carded at the same time as conceding an utterly needless try. Edinburgh need to wake up at half time, some of their tackling is pathetic.

The worst aspect is that there are only 2 Edinburgh backs missing to international duty. Why didn't Solomons get some descent back instead of more backrowers?!
Re: Pro12: Benetton Treviso v Edinburgh Rugby 12th Sept
this is not a classic. We seem to be getting destroyed at the scrum and breakdown

He cannot keep playing without a goalkicker. FFS Sollomans swallow your weird pride at not playing youngsters and give Kinghorn a game otherwise we will continue to leave far too many points on the pitch.

FFS that last one was an Edinburgh penalty, Treviso just went straight down.

Re: Pro12: Benetton Treviso v Edinburgh Rugby 12th Sept
WTF?! Edinburgh should have said Andress was injured and then it would have been uncontested scrums. Madness
Re: Pro12: Benetton Treviso v Edinburgh Rugby 12th Sept
Is it just me that is getting real tired of cynical scrums for the penalty try these days? No intention to complete scrum and play some other bits of rugby.

Edinburgh deserve it for at least not being cynical barstewards. Zzzz.

Got out of jail there....
terrible reffing, but Einburgh were their own worst enemies, so would only have themselves to blame had they lost that, which tbh they deserved to.

Sounds very similar to the connacht loss last year, just duty a different outcome!
A wins a win though at this stage of the season, and it will have served as a wake up call for Edinburgh.
Who played well?

Who played well?
The backline were clinical when the ball got to the wide channels with pace. The problem was that only happened twice. Luckily we scored both times.
Manu again awesome, but real concerns over his fitness. Hes holding out for the full 80 atm, but that wont last as the season goes on. Cochrane was about the only one trying to disrupt the breakdown, for which he got a card. The rest of them were passive. Grant pretty anonymous.
Kennedy was poor. Far too often the ball shot out the back of the ruck between his legs because he was too busy doing his best Laidlaw impression. Collectively the team were atrocious at cleaning up loose ball. Often a treviso player would pounce while 3 Edinburgh players just looked at it.
On the whole, defensively there were far too many missed tackles. That wasnt a failure of the system, just players being far too passive.

I see that as a dropped point and it demonstrated a lack of composure and concentration. Still, on the other hand we're two from two.
Playing poorly and winning. Sign of a championship winning team?
Doubt it!
