Mike Smith is now a DC for his former OC
Leaves Pettine & Schwartz on the table so this is great news.

Im amazed Spagnuolo still has a job though.
For those keeping track, in his last 2 years as a DC, he has coordinated 2 of the worst 3 defenses of all time.

Yeah, I find the Giants whole approach weird... by promoting McAdoo and keeping Reese and Spagnuolo, they're basically saying that the last few years have all been Coughlin's fault. Good teams have the luxury of continuity. The Giants are not a good team.
Not saying he's blameless but was Coughlin the only problem? They only promoted McAdoo cos the Eagles spooked them into thinking they were going to hire him.

Worth remembering that Coughlin only dropped out once it became clear he'd probably have to find some new people to work with. As far as I can tell, the Eagles went with their backup option of becoming the Eagles of ten years ago after they failed in their attempt to become the Giants.Number-25 wrote:They only promoted McAdoo cos the Eagles spooked them into thinking they were going to hire him.

Yeah I've no idea what the Giants are doing - ultimately their roster stinks outside like 4/5 players, yet Jerry Reese seemingly has job security for life. And as GSC says Spagnolo is up there with Rob Ryan for awful DC's

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
As a Skins fan, I love it. The Cowboys don't really have a direction, unless they draft a franchise QB, which in this draft looks unlikely. The Eagles have an untried OC moving into the HC position (albeit from a good coaching tree), with a roster that looks 2nd rate. The Giants are almost bi-polar in their management behaviour, and a roster that makes the Eagles look good. What's not to love!
I actually like the sensible approach in Detroit. Caldwell may not win them a SB, but going 6-2 down the stretch after making changes that could have crashed their season has to count for something. All too easy to pull the trigger and start again. When you have a QB that's heading into the latter years of his career, you want to build stability around him (think Patriots), not chop and change.

It's nearly time for the divisional round. I'm going for the west to win all for games and set up two divisional rivalry match-ups in the championship games next week.
The Chiefs lead the Patriots 17-13 in head-to-heads and won the last game 41-14.

Some of us might be.... not me though! Still lots of holes to fill in the roster and Cousins still needs to convince me - he was great over the last 8 games or so of the regular season but against the Packers he looked a lot like the Cousins we all thought he was before the season again - off target and throwing passes he shouldn't be throwing - the Pack dropped 2 INTs and Reed bailed him out on another by making a great catch.
Plenty salary cap room though and a full complement of draft picks so it's all there for us to have a good offseason but at the moment I don't see us having any more than the 9 wins we got this season and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we were back to being a 5 win team again. I have too many scars from previous Redskins false dawns to let me believe anything else.

So, it would appear that the Patriots aren't even going to try to pretend today that they have a running game. 11 plays, 80 yards, TD.... 11 passes, 0 runs.
It has to be said though... Tom Brady is really quite good.

Great start, having Edelman and Vollmer back has made a big difference to this offense.

QB draw is surely the play here? Smith's legs have been the Chiefs' best weapon on this drive.

So after next weekend Tom Brady will have played in more conference championship games than 27 of the other NFL franchises ever have.

I'll take that. I've had my doubts about Brady this season, but tonight proved he can still do it with the right tools.
But I really can't see any of the AFC teams winning in the SB.

I don't think the AFC is that far behind, I doubt it will be a one sided game. If the SB was a series of games then I would expect an NFC winner but I feel OK about our chances, provided we stay healthy.Skyforger wrote:But I really can't see any of the AFC teams winning in the SB.

With Andy Reid in charge? Goodness me, what an incredibly stunning turn of events.Number-25 wrote:Chiefs' clock management has just been abysmal
In equally stunning news, after a GM search that apparently excluded anyone that ruled out hiring Mike Mularkey, the Titans have hired Mike Mularkey.

Gotta love Fitzy
Wasn't he supposed to be done? There's 31 other teams in the league would love to have a receiver as a done as him.

Being a Tennessee fan has gotta be most depressing in the league - no team does more to hurt itself
Hoping Seattle/Carolina lives up to the hype - Broncos/Steelers is gonna be a blowout in denver's favour

Team loses a playoff game in OT.... said team then whines about the OT rules are unfair (looking at you Green Bay).... one of the most predictable things in the NFL.

That Carolina D# is legit, totally missed on Luke Kuechly when I did the odd draft evaluation, still embarrassed by that. I kind of made up for it by being a bigger fan of Kawann Short than just about anyone else.

Interestingly Rodgers is 0-7 in OT games... and I think 3 have been without him touching the ball... but trying to claim that you would have switched you coin toss call because it was being run for a second time is rather silly

Seahawks have decided to roll with their proven 'get crushed for three quarters, find a fluke score and then somehow end up in front a few minutes later' strategy I see.
