Froch vs Pascal
First topic message reminder :
Cracking fight. Two tough guys standing throwing bombs. This was the first I seen it in years
Anyone that hasn't seen it, give it a view.

Re: Froch vs Pascal
The comparison was more focussed on Froch than whether JC was a 'great' in general. And people seemingly being quite willing to give JC a pass for stuff or not compare he and Froch equally (Top 3 wins versus Top 3 wins only, etc).

Re: Froch vs Pascal
I don't think anyone would have criticised Calzaghe had he jumped to 175lbs without unifying the division, in fact he'd have got a lot more praise for doing so instead he spent the best part of 10 years fighting awful WBO mandatories.

Calzaghe himself revealed he struggled to make the super middle weight, therefore natural progression would be to move up from 168 to 175.Hammersmith harrier wrote:I don't think anyone would have criticised Calzaghe had he jumped to 175lbs without unifying the division, in fact he'd have got a lot more praise for doing so instead he spent the best part of 10 years fighting awful WBO mandatories.

Calzaghe is a great fighter, but he wasted a good few years defending against so,so fighters.
Still, nobody can dispute the talent he had. Speed and engine like no one else.
I always rated Joe, but the longer he stays retired the more fondly I remember him. Cracking fighter and would not be easy work for anyone.

If Calzaghe had KO power, would have been hard to see how anyone beats him, great chin, speed, stamina he had the rest.AdamT wrote:Calzaghe is a great fighter, but he wasted a good few years defending against so,so fighters.

Yep you don't drop Eubank if you can't dig, but then the problem with his hands made Joe's punches became hurtful rather than with KO power.AdamT wrote:He did have until he hurt his hands.

Re: Froch vs Pascal
Similar to Floyd in that respect.
Saw a video last night on Benn talking about Floyd, before he fought Castillo.
Benn believed Floyd was already p4p number 1 then and he mentioned how Floyd had serious power in both hands.
He did have good power in his early career and took more risks. It is perhaps the mix of weight hopping and hand injuries that put a dent in his ko ratio. Mosley said Floyd punches harder than people think.

Re: Froch vs Pascal
Don't think Floyd 'lost power' like JC, I think he just adapted his style over time. At heavier weights against riskier (as in heavier hitting) opponents he became more cautious and didn't go for the ko (unguarded Ortiz sucker punch aside). He relied on his defensive genius to guarantee rounds.
