The Exorcist 3

Blatty's novel "legion" has all the good available Directors turn it down (Carpenter etc) so he directs himself..........

Blatty wants to keep the title but the Studio insist on Exorcist 3......

After finishing the film the studio says where are the characters from the original ?? and tell him to go back and stick the original priest in that went flying down the steps...

After changing scenes and putting the dead priest from the original in..The studio tell him you can't have a film called the Exorcist 3 without an Exorcism so stick one in............Sticks one in and the film is nothing like the original script.....Blatty turns his back on it..

Apocalypse Now

Always love the quote from Coppola about the Apocalypse Now shoot - "There were too many of us, we had access to too much equipment, too much money, and little by little we went insane."

Heaven's Gate (another Cimino film) could be added to that list. Bankrupted United Artists studio.

Apparently Cimino asked why no one was drinking champagne at the film's premiere....

He was told "Because they all hate the movie Michael"...

Good choice...

I've never seen Heavens Gate but I always thought that although it sank the studio due to the overspend, it was seen as a classic on reappraisal.

Another film that had a troubled production was Highlander II: The Quickening.

As a teen, I was so excited about this coming out but boy was it awful.

Apparently, everyone involved pretty much hated the film. Injuries, delayed payments, rewrites, new endings. A complete mess.

What about Terry Gilliam's "Don Quixote". So fraught with problems it never got finished

The original Casino Royale was a nightmare..............Sellers quit......Ten directors.......and the producer blamed the stress of the film on him getting cancer..

Apparently before accepting her part Deborah Kerr insisted on extra money for every day the film ran late....

She named her swimming pool after the Producer.....
