Welcome to Season 8 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (SJE) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 23 players. Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1993.
Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will receive two additional bids to be used exclusively on academy age players. These players must be bid for on the National League Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by the RFU on its own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by the RFU against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
Player Draft
Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will participate in a player draft beginning the week of June 22nd. Both sides will be allowed to draft two players each. The draft picks will go as follows; 1. Worcester 2. Wasps 3. Wasps 4. Worcester.
Round Bidding
There will be two rounds of bidding. The first window will run the week starting June 29th and the second the week starting July 3rd. All sides will be allowed to sign one player each during the window. These bids are not protected if you do not have the funds in place to bid during the window you will lose the bid.
Open Bidding
From July 13th the foreign market will be open to all bids similar to previous seasons. Due to the world cup the window will remain open till the end of September.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the National League Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be European Rugby Champions Cup, European Rugby Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Failure to meet these deadlines is punishable by the addition of three match points to the oppositions final score, unless both sides fail to do so. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Sunday. Managers will pm the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result. To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
For domestic competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.
For European competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 6 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
Bonuses will be awarded on a scaled basis i.e. 2m for 5 games, 1.6m for 4 games and so on
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc upto a maximum of £5m per fine.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Unlucky with injury there.
Be interesting who Jones selects on the wings as we don't seem to have any wings who are the finished article just yet. Watson seems better suited to fb, Nowell could lack a yard or two of pace, Roko, Yarde, Wade all have issues on defence/positioning and Ashton seems to be on the periphery of the squad for some reason. Hoping that changes under Jones.
Ashton and Nowell could be best options for 6Nations, if Watson is moved to fb.

Would have nowell and Watson as wings with May out. Agree re nowell not having the pace but there are no other options.
Ashton in great form but still making errors rushing up and we need to move on with next WC in mind.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Depends how Jones wants to play I guess. If he wants a poacher/tracker then Ashton is the best we have, if he wants a winger to create then he isn't.
I personally think it's the latter, May would have started as he's said he's a fan.

I was talking yesterday to Chris Foy fromt eh Daily Mail and Alex Lowe from The Times and they both said that Jones was going to play Slade at 12 until he broke he broke his leg. Jones wants ball players in the back line, so I'm suspecting Ashton may be a bit of an outsider.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Maybe Pete, but Ashton could work well with somebody actually releasing the ball at 12, we've not had that for a while.
The problem with Ashton is you need to utilise his skills or he's not much use. He's never going to create much ala Watson, May etc. I don't think Jones will go with him despite him playing well.

The growing clamour for Itoje is a little concerning, I can't see working too well if we select Launchbury(surely has to start?)
I'd like to see a Launchbury + Slater/Kitchener/Kruis.

I wouldn't be surprised if Matt Symons is in the squad. Chris Foy and Alex Lowe were at the London Irish media session yesterday. Matt was not on media duty this week, but was interviewed by them and then they left. Neither have been to an Irish media session in the 18 months we've been at Hazelwood. Foy is the head rugby writer fort he Mail and they are normally pretty good at breaking the Engalnd team news. It's just a real coincidence that they suddenly appear and only speak to him, the week before the squad announcement.

Really? I'd be surprised with that, he's not looked anything special if I'm honest. It's sometimes hard to shine when a side is struggling I guess.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
He's never going to catch the eye, he's not that sort of player. His engine is unbelievable though. Defensively I doubt there is a lock in the league with better stats. He doesn't carry a huge amount, which is perhaps why he doesn't get noticed, but his work clearing at the breakdown is right up there, and his tackle count is enormous.

Who do you think he's competing with? I've been really impressed with Kruis this season, he's really stepped up.
Robinson for us has been a revelation, leading the line and big around the park.

Kruis has been excellent, far better than Itoje, who I'm not quite getting all the hype about. He was bang average against us and has looked a bit of a cheap shot merchant the handful of times I've watched him this year.

May definitely would have started in 6Nations, not sure if he works with Watson though, quite like the balance that Nowell brings as has great work rate and is really good at making yards. Only problem is his hair cut and speed!

I posted similar on the main board, the media Itoje hype is baffling. He was outplayed at our place by Robinson, Kruis was excellent.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Agree with you both about Kruis, he has really upped his game - the Sarries coaching setup has been great with him, its improved all their pack really and you wouldn't argue if both Vunipolas, Kruis and George all started for us.
Disagree on Itoje though, I think he's got everything to be a top class player for a 20/21 year old to be going in and bullying opponents and keeping Hamilton (I think!) out of the starting lineup at Sarries is some going, he totally dominated us at the Ricoh and each time I've seen Sarries on tv he's been given motm.
Launchbury is our best lock, but will be close between Lawes, Kruis and Itoje for the second starting spot.

Also, further up the line, Twomey looked very good pre injury for us this season

Lawes will be nowhere judging on this seasons form. It's Launchbury + 1 for me. With his lack of ability at the lineout we need a specialist, so Kruis or Kitchener.

He's played 2-3 games hasn't he? One or two as a no6. Has a good partnership with Lawes already, so he's up there, espc if Hartley is chosen as captain.
Will Kitchener be in the EPS? Not sure that he will as have so many players to pick from, even with Attwood and Slater out injured.

Who are you on about, Lawes? He's been pretty poor in the games I've seen.

Would be interesting to see if Slater could bring his club game to the international stage, does he operate Tigers lineout? Never sure if he's quite big enough though.
We've got a lot of good locks to pick from.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Kruis should be the first name on the team sheet based on form. For me slater is a Saxon and no more but you never know until given an opportunity.
Would certainly add some leadership which is missing in the team.
Lads i really struggle to get tactics in for Thursday evening due to work. Been in Newcastle Liverpool London and Paris this week alone. I always work from home Friday so is it ok if I have tactics in for before 8am Friday?
Had them in at 7 today and struggling for time
In the game generally

Kruis has really upped his game and should start in the 6N with Launchbury.
Symons would be interesting. He clearly offers something as a leader which may be worth looking at. Expect he is either a starter or bust though. Would be surprised to see him off the bench.

What do people make of Ryan Mills at Worcester? Seen a few games he's played in and have been impressed and seems a v good no12 and really under the radar.

3 years ago he was being monitored by all England coaches at Glos and was seen as star material. Horrific injuries and by his own admission would retire after another. Glos got rid as he could not string games together. Was a star of England u20s.
Can play 10,13 and 15. Does not have pace of old but is a superb ball player. I released him ages ago but was best back of his age group and if he can stay fit an England player.
Still young and has a kicking game that's exceptional. As a Glos fan would swap 36 for him. Hope he stays fit as he was one of the best talents I have seen.
Him Freddie burns trinder May and sharples were our future years ago.
Burns has it all apart from management and size. His brother Billy is exceptional but so small I can't see him ever making it.
Watched Billy score on first touch vs Irish last week. We are bad but Irish so bad in second half last week. Amazed it was not a BP. Ref made some howlers. First half Noakes and mckibinn kicking game worked and Irish deserved lead.
Irish wing Lewington and the 7 aside they were awful.
Pete do you think it's relegation this season ?

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Relegation is a possibility of course. Saturday against Gloucester was a microcosm of our season. For 40 minutes we were well on top and playing well in the conditions. Had we executed marginally better it could have been 21-6 or even 28-6 at the break, but as it was we went in 14-6 ahead.
I haven't seen the second half as I had to go out at half time, but I am told by people who were there that we failed to adapt to Gloucesters personnel and tactical changes and took too long to bring players on from the bench.
The only game were we've played for longer than 40 minutes this season is against Saints, but even then we had a 20 minute spell where we stopped and almost lost the game because of it. If we can't work out a way to play for 80, we will go down. That said, Falcons fans are saying the same about their team, so it could go either way. That said, I don't think Worcester are clear of it by a long shot. If they get nothing at Wasps this week and we win a high scoring game where both teams pick up TBP's and Falcons grab a LBP as well the table will be Worcester on 12, us on 9, Falcons on 8, with Worcester coming to our place at the beginning of February. It is still wide open on the relegation front in my opinion, but we do need to win on Sunday.

Good article by Geech in the Telegraph, players England must pick Cipriani, Itoje (at no6), Kvesvic, Daly and Hartley. Think I'd add in Clifford and can see Tuilagi getting the no12 shirt in the last two games as well.
