Jesus Christ England love taking us on at Twickenham don't they!
Actually it might suit Wales more, the way things are going in the Pro 12 we won't have anyone in the final, so we should have all the local lads available!

Ah yeah, I thought we weren't having one. Sneaky. Though to be fair, even if we don't it's still rubbish that we are playing on 26 Nov when it's probably right before Europe again.

An average of more than 1 game a month for Wales in a Calendar year.
Pathetic. Test rugby is killing the game.

England are likely to be without at least half a dozen players with the AP final the day before, what is the point............................

I hope only 6 people turn up. The Unions are riding roughshod over the game. Disgraceful.

Anybody with a genuine love for the game woudl stay well away from this match. It's a step too far.

Would people with a genuine love for the game stay away from the play offs as well? Could just go with the league standings and help player welfare? Club and International need to work together for the benefit of all.

Probably not, as they pay for season tickets and have followed their teams all season.

So flog the players as long as there's season tickets? Or have a more thoughtful outlook at the total amount of rugby we're asking from the players?

I wouldn't be against final league standings without playoffs if it was part of a balanced approach for player welfare.
As it is, I do not understand why there are test windows. No Union seems to adhere to them. They just cause chaos.

Hope it's replacing the Barbarian game for England. It's effectively a warm up game but with potentially significantly more value (rugby terms) than the Barbarians. If it's as well as...sod that

Am I right in thinking that the RFU's agreement with the clubs allows for release of EQP for an extra game, but not Jonny Foreigners?

well given it's at the same time as the Prem final England will likely be missing a few players. They might also not pick those playing in the semis, assuming they're being played the week before?
Suspect England will treat this much like a Barbarian fixture, and pick some fringe players.

It sounds like there'll be ranking points at stake. Not very happy with that if we aren't going to have access to everyone. It's one thing to willingly field a understrength team, it's another to have that condition imposed on you by the timing.HammerofThunor wrote:Hope it's replacing the Barbarian game for England.

Of course it's outside the test window.
Test rugby doesn't care when it screws around with the doemstic calendar

The EPS agreement gives the RFU some access to players outside the international window. That's also why we have an autumn international outside the window next year.No 7&1/2 wrote:So if the clubs don't want their players to be involved they don't have to.

The notion that a rugby union organises a test match and that test match is going to be played "without the players from the 2 best teams in the country" is farcical, shameless and devalues not only the English rugby shirt but also test rugby as a concept.
The Unions really are complete dybbuks of the rugby world.

If the PRL have negotiated this with the union then they are equals in it. Personally the calaendar is full enough for me and both club and country should be reviewing the requirements they're placing on the players. This isn't just a union thing.

It woulddn't be on the table if the Unions weren't so unscrupolously greedy. The fact that the PRL may have okayed it, doesn't make everything ok.

Jeez, We have already seen England can't win Internationals without Hartley and Burrell. Re: Wales take extra summer game against England.
The RFU and Premiership clubs have an agreement, but I don't think it's a good result if we get a match with ranking points at stake where we may not have the option of fielding our first choice simply because of scheduling. No 7&1/2 wrote:Which comes back to club and country working together.
I'm not even sure I want another match against Wales. One of the attractions of the Six Nations is that sides get bragging rights until next year. We are told how that is the commercial jewel in the crown, so I don't understand why we would want to cheapen it by arranging another game a few months later. Especially since we often play other 6N sides in the World Cup warm-ups every four years.

Yea after all the talk of playing tier two sides from the RWC you'd think one of them would be a better fit.
Sadly that was probably just lip service as money talks these days.
Would have been great to get Japan over for a game! Or stop there on the way to Oz

I'm not a fan of playoffs tbh. Losing these would be a good way of losing some unecessary matches. If you win the league then you've won imo.

In 1930. The then British lions played 28 games including 5 Tests against NZ and Australia in a 16 week period. . The squad consisted of 29 players. Given the recovery technologies we now have and the huge squads. Unions can call on I think it's a bit rich to go on about killing the game with an extra Test. The game is still alive and kicking!

Well if no Premiership clubs in the playoffs provide any players, the England side might be a tier 2 side.yappysnap wrote:Yea after all the talk of playing tier two sides from the RWC you'd think one of them would be a better fit.

And if Llanelli, currently second in the Pro12, do not provide players, Wales might be as well.......,

Gatland will have access to the players playing in Wales but as with the 4th AI if it is outside the window then he won't have access to the English/French based players.
The game is a day after the Pro12 and Aviva finals so England are likely to be without a host of first choice players Wales not so much, another money spinning waste of time game.

Can't remember being told that Bedford. Anyway, here's the RSA outline for what it's worth....
"Within the RSA the WRU retains the right to play up to 13 senior international games each year with a 13-day release facility for squad training before the Six Nations and Autumn series games."

Wales beating Australia was the reason Eddie Jones got the sack as their national coach, maybe he wants to get as many chances as he possibly can to get revenge, lol.

The Rugby Paper report that the RFU pushed for this game to fill the coffers and help pay back the compensation owed to PRL clubs - from the World Cup. Test rugby just breeds chaos.

Maybe but....
If the reverse happened Wales would be on their 11th coach since Wales last win against Oz.
