Absolutely - I will be glued to Ben Franks' masterclass all evening.funnyExiledScot wrote:jimbopip wrote:RDW_Scotland wrote:funnyExiledScot wrote:RDW_Scotland wrote:So have you only been to one game this season then??
Good use of the Season Ticket!
Yes, although the ticket itself has been used at almost every game. I'm generous like that. It's a lawyer thing.....
Ahem, and why have you not been spreading the love with your V2 brethren?
Yeah, I'm sure Schiz would appreciate a quiet evening in the library.
It would be instructive, seeing how a proper scrummage operates.

I can't imagine the expense of having to buy Christmas presents would put old bridge wrecker in a particularly cheerie place!

So just to be absolutely clear, and for the avoidance of any doubt. This game isn't on TV, is it?

Since I've opted for staying at home with a curry and beer, anyone going to the game who fancies standing in the cold and wet and broadcasting it on periscope?

Bresler off injured replaced by Ritchie so we're a 2nd row down

If bresler and Scott are out for next week then we might as well give the 1872 cup straight back - we'll have 1 fit lock left, plus Strauss at centre!

Tom English absolutely slammed Edinburgh for their clueless slow play at half time. Really couldnt argue with anything he said. Colin Gregor a bit more diplomatic, but saying the same things really.

I think the person running the Edinburgh twitter feed has been in hospitality at half time. At one it's went from 13-18 to 13-15 to 13-13 back to 13-15

I've heard a bit on the radio and that doesn't surprise me.
The loss of Bresler was a big blow - who is playing lock now??

Ritchie was the replacement, but I dont think hes playing 2nd row. Probably Coman. Sounds like Ritchies playing well, but Dont understand why they didnt bring Bradbury on instead for the extra bulk he brings...

We just need to get the win here - with all the injuries and what sounds like a poor performance that would be huge.

Tom English making no bones about the fact he thinks Edinburgh's style of play is utterly rancid. Really not holding back, though does concede that our defence was very good

Heard his comments after the game - sounds like we were at our turgid and woefully slow best.
Our back 5 injuries have crippled us though.

Shades of Edinburgh-Racing a few years back!
Losing Bresler is obviously a big blow, lets hope McKenzie can get back to fitness as Denton is not here anymore to cover 2nd row..

Or! Mental idea I know, but hear me out....
..Play an academy lock like Carmichael. Or get one on loan from somewhere. But we cant keep going into games without second row cover.

Turley did well when called upon against Leinster last season. Solomons has to take the blame for all these injury imo, take last night game for instance Du Preez and Nel played the whole 80 minutes when Berghan and Bradbury sat out the game on the bench. Terrible players management.

Grenoble have snuck under the radar and stormed into the lead in the group.
Edinburgh pretty much need to win both remaining games and could do with a bonus point or two too..
I suspect we may end up missing out, and it is likely to come down to not picking up bonus points (no change there).
That might be no bad thing though - given our injury ravaged pack we need to concentrate on the league. Saying that, we might fail in the league too so like last year a Euro run might give us something to get excited about!

But Grenoble have played Agen twice and nearly lost the last one by the look of it - I think it will come down to who can beat Grenoble with the most match points with LI having the slight advantage that I believe if we finish joint top with Edinburgh on points we go through on the head to head? Shame we threw away a draw when we were away to Grenoble as then we'd definitely be in pole position.

Re: Challenge Cup Pool 5: Edinburgh Rugby v London Irish, 18 December
We're 2 points behind Grenoble and level with London Irish.
It won't make much difference who wins between Irish and Grenoble - we'll still need to beat Grenoble away from home which may not be easy if they're still interested in the competition.
If Irish lose I think we'll be out! Both teams should get BP wins against Agen (Edinburgh less likely) but Irish have a much better points difference.

Actually, apparently Edinburgh are above Irish because they've won one more game - Irish have 2 tbp and 2 lbp's.
So, I think, if we end up on even points we'll go through...

No if they are equal it's decided on the head to head - which Irish won by 6 points to 4 ... we've fallen foul of this before so it's fresh in my mind

Yes - so if we assume we both get 5 points off Agen (which of course is by no means certain) and Irish beat Grenoble without a TBP then Edinburgh will need a TBP to go through.

I think the best result for you if I've worked out all the permutations correctly (and still assuming we all beat Agen) is if we lose to Grenoble as i think then all you have to do is beat them. But it looks like even if we beat them all three teams are still in with a shout on the last weekend.

I say that we could probably do without advancing much further (not that I'd complain if we did), but are London Irish in the same boat since they might be facing up to a relegation dogfight?
I think you've got too much class to go down, but you've got to get some wins soon.

Re: Challenge Cup Pool 5: Edinburgh Rugby v London Irish, 18 December
It's an interesting question as there is the debate about wins building confidence which hopefully will flow through to the prem versus stretching your resources across competitions. I think the last couple of games will actually really help LI going back into the prem as a confidence boost was needed.
Given the teams we've faced so far and the new setups etc in reality it's not that unexpected that we are where we are at present but now we need to start winning and if we can keep playing like we have recently I think that will come. We also actually have more strength in the squad than we have had for some time so hopefully we'll be OK
