Sad to see this. His Belfry 2-iron and win over Fred Couples is probably still giving Freddie nightmares.
Himself still going strong at 91 apparently.

Thought he was about 67 when he played that shot Kwini. No idea he was that "young".

One of my earliest golf based memories (at least one that has stayed there) that 2 iron shot.
Know (embarrassingly) little about him but seemed to enjoy the game. Cap duly doffed.

Mac,
He died; on holiday in the Canaries apparently.
Could well have enjoyed a terrific Senior career, two Senior Opens and a couple of US Senior Tour wins before he injured himself badly. In a motor-bike accident I think?
Only won one Ryder Cup match in two appearances, but that one match assures him legendary status.

"Senior British Open champion Christy O'Connor Jnr will be out of golf for at least six months after he broke a leg in a freak accident.
The Irishman sustained a double-fracture of his left leg at his home in Galway on Thursday evening.
O'Connor was cleaning his Harley Davidson motorcycle when the machine fell on top of his leg"

It also seems his son was killed in a road traffic accident when only 17.

Had to laugh at that story Mac, not the son's death but the motorcycle.

Sad loss but I wonder if CO'C Jr would be remembered as much if his shot at the Belfry all those years ago had been with a 9I and not a 2I. Anyone who has played the game knows how tough that shot was. If it had been a 1 iron he'd be canonised by now!

From that distance it would probably be a 6 iron for today's players

Somber thread aside for a sec, I do get a great laugh out of Crossfield & Lockey the banter is classic and the injustice of that vid just exemplifies Lockey's lot. Still a signed up member of #LockeysArmy though.

What I like about Crossley and his crew (not that it is always funny to us) is that they are great examples of people doing golf for the right reason: Fun, genuine fun too, not the gerrymandered pseudo fun like 9C etc claim to be enduring.
Always good to remember why we actually started the game, not to reduce our handicap or win competitions or play for a team, but because it's enjoyable.
