At risk of sounding like a broken record they just aren't good enough and I don't think that can be classified as choking.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Man for man you'd have more Arsenal players in a mixed first eleven than you would a Leicester or Spurs team, something though mentally is just not quite there within the Arsenal camp.

Leicster are a surprise package so Id give you that.
Not sure about Spurs though think you over rate arsenal, I think several of their starting 11 are mid table quality.

Still, they should have beaten that United team, so it was a choke.

They should have on paper but this happens time and time again in football and to arsenal.
In the context of a league challenge they just aren't good enough.

Must say i very rarely watch a live match if Villa are not playing.
Watched most of the Man utd Arsenal game, i thought it was pretty decent.

Chelsea and United have never been in a realistic position to challenge they've just been poor; Arsenal look fantastic until the title becomes a real possibility.

One mistake, but three or four real class saves that have kept Liverpool in the final.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Gutted to have lost.
It does show just how far behind Europe's elite Manchester City are though and Guardiola does have his toughest task on his hands. Against a back four consisting of Lucas and Toure for 85 minutes and James Milner at left back for 45, they managed one goal thanks to a goalkeeping mistake. That is really poor. Any of Europe's top teams would have destroyed Liverpool in those circumstances.
The fact that Liverpool only ended up losing on penalties, despite playing pretty poor for most of the match says a lot for me.
They need a huge amount of investment, AGAIN. They've allowed the squad to age and haven't got the depth to compete effectively.
Yaya Toure will go in the summer, probably Mangala, Demichelis, Bony at least will go as well. They'll spend upwards of £30 million on another central defender most likely, Laporte now been linked. They need a replacement for Toure, more depth up front, probably another wide player, they've got four ageing full backs.

Im not sure you can say that about Citeh really. It was just a lack of chance taking & a blatant penalty being ignored (Why go down when he could finish the game) If Raheem took his it could of been 3/4-0 easily.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
The best team won yesterday, and it could and should have been by a few. Plus they're easing into the quarters of the CL. Pep will have to tweak but still has a decent spine, plus flair, when all fit.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
They never took control of the game at all in the way you'd expect from a team that wants to be amongst the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. They never looked comfortable and really only got any kind of fortune taking advantage of Moreno's awful positioning. I'm surprised people are being so positive of them when Liverpool played so poorly, had a makeshift defence and yet City only managed to win on penalties.

It doesn't matter how you win as long as you do especially in cup finals. I wish a few at the emirates would take note of that. In 3 months time no one will care how bad or well they played all they will note is it saying 2016 League Cup Winners - Man Citeh.

I'm not denying that, but for long-term prospects, looking at how they won now is a good indication of their future. I think there's still a lot of work to do to turn Manchester City into one of the top teams in Europe. Bayern, Madrid and Barcelona would have destroyed that Liverpool team, I'd have thought Atletico, Juventus and PSG would have been much more comfortable as well. They won, but they certainly didn't look convincing and had Liverpool played as well as they did in their previous match against City, I don't think they'd have won. Liverpool were quite poor really but never looked out of the game.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Obviously I am disappointed we didn't win the cup yesterday. However, hopefully performances like that will help convince Klopp, and more importantly the board, of the importance of a major overhaul of the squad this summer which is quite frankly mediocre in too many areas. Rather ironically success in the much-maligned Europa league could be crucial to the summer transfer window given the new route into champions league football for the winner.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Mignolet's howler aside I thought both keepers had excellent games. Used to play in goal at school so have a fondness for good goalkeeping (despise Utd, but think De Gea's excellent) Also thought Lucas preformed admirably at the back and his penalty miss spoiled what was a particularly good game for him.
Moreno's fast becoming a liability and whilst we created some good chances in extra time, we should have been done and dusted before then.
However, much like we've bemoaned our inability to kill teams off this season, had we won the game in extra time, City would have been guilty of squandering the same sort of chances we have all season
