Finally! It's all over at the Farmers and the guy that finished on Sunday wins on Monday.  Brandt Snedeker's fantastic round of 69 in horrendous conditions was enough to be the low round of the day and force a one shot win as the others stumbled their way to the finish.

Snedeker spent all day at Torrey Pines in case there was a playoff but on Tour there was no need but in the Fantasy League a three way playoff ensued between LadyPutt, Owen10ozzy, and Pedro.  All three picked Snedeker so it was down to their next best pick.  LadyPutt's was Jonas Blixt who finished 6th, Pedro's was Martin Laird who finished 8th, Owen10ozzy's was K.J. Choi who was runner up and just like that Owen10ozzy wins.

Four other Fantasy Leaguers selected Snedeker and not surprisingly they are towards the top end of the leaderboard.  Kwinigolfer had five of his picks including Snedeker score points; his number of scoring picks was matched by BlueCoverman, Pedro, and Sand.  1GrumpyGolfer and Hibbz, like Owen10ozzy, had four picks including Snedeker score points.  Beninho, Davie, EmmDee57, McLaren, SirBenson, and Super_Realist, like LadyPutt had three picks score points.  Eyetoldyouso, GolferMartin, I'm Never Wrong, Raycastleunited, and TheCleaver all had two picks score points; TheCleaver had Snedeker and it showed.  SetupDetermines had just the one picks score points but it was pretty good.  AlciG would have had two scoring picks.

The PGA Tour is set fair for the West coast for the time being and Jason Day is not only the headliner but the returning champion.  He won the Farmers Insurance Open in dramatic fashion last year and looks to be only the fourth player to defend their title.  Former winners in the field include Scott Stallings, Brandt Snedeker, Ben Crane, Nick Watney, and Phil Mickelson.  Mickelson has won on multiple occasions, the first in 1993, and he was the second player to defend after J.C. Snead first managed it in the 1970's.  Recent winners not making an appearance are Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods, Woods being the third player to win back to back titles and in a sense he did it three times winning it 2005-2008.

Torrey Pines hosts the first two days over both it's South and lesser famed North Course before finishing the weekend on the South Course.  With that being the case the points scoring opportunities are amended to take into account the usual scoring differential between the harder South and easier North Courses.  Points for Top 5 Low Round scores will also be awarded in round two.

There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one.  There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category.  Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus.  It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.

This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:

Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores.  If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply or PM them to me.  Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament.  However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Sorry Alci but rules is rules. Glad you agree that they can't count and I hope you're not kicking yourself at the end if your non-counting score comes out on top. I'd be interested to know - did you post using a smartphone or tablet or was it a PC or laptop? Sometimes I've posted comments using my iPad and they've not registered for some reason - I thought it was just me being stupid Erm

I'll be fine. Just want to know my 'score' to keep the weekend a bit more interesting Smile Thanks for keeping the score 1GG Hug

I've had posts "disappear" and in those instances I think I have clicked back or somewhere else on the page instead of waiting for Send to process through.

Also, no trouble to do so Alci; there was only one additional player to keep track of.

The cut line flip flopped for a time and ultimately fell at one under par. That caused decimation in categories A and B as big names missed the cut and some by a big margin. Only one cut bonus was paid out for those two categories and half of the Fantasy League earned a bonus in category C. No one earned more than bonus and no one has more than six picks left.

1GrumpyGolfer, BlueCoverman, EmmDee57, Eyetoldyouso, Hibbz, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, Owen10ozzy, Pedro, Sand, and Super_Realist all have six picks left. All earned a cut bonus except for 1GrumpyGolfer and Kwinigolfer. EmmDee57 was the one to earn a bonus from category B. Beninho, McLaren, and TheCleaver each have five picks left; Beninho and McLaren also earned a cut bonus. AlciG, Davie, I'm Never Wrong, Raycastleunited, and SirBenson all have four picks left and none of them earned a bonus. GolferMartin and SetupDetermines are both left with three picks left for the weekend.

With the multiple courses in operation Top 5 Low Round score bonuses were in play for round two. For the second day running scores of 67 or lower were needed to earn points. Six picks did just that and one, Derek Fathauer, shot 65 for the low round of the day. Eyetoldyouso and Super_Realist both picked Fathauer. Super_Realist was one of three Fantasy Leaguers to have two picks score points; BlueCoverman and Pedro were the other two. Beninho, EmmDee57, Hibbz, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, McLaren, Owen10ozzy, Sand, and SetupDetermines also earned points.

Scoring was a little tougher once everyone was on the South Course but that didn't stop Jonas Blixt. For the second day in a row he shot 66 and this time it was the low round of the day. LadyPutt was the beneficiary of Blixt's fine play. To score points from the Top 10 Low round scores all that was needed were rounds of 70 or lower and six other picks managed that. LadyPutt used Blixt as the catalyst for a charge up the leaderboard as she had two other scoring picks. Super_Realist's fatties still managed to do the business for him and he is now jointly in the lead with LadyPutt as two of his picks scored points. 1GrumpyGolfer, Davie, Eyetoldyouso, Hibbz, Kwinigolfer, McLaren, and Pedro also had two picks score points. BlueCoverman, I'm Never Wrong, Owen10ozzy, Raycastleunited, Sand, SirBenson, and TheCleaver all had one of their picks score points.

Kwini's inspired last minute substitution of Graham DeLaet for Brendan Steele isn't paying dividends; DeLaet had an 82 for the worst round of the day but sadly points are no longer awarded for bad play. Patrick Reed withdrew after an 81 and that hits a few Fantasy Leaguers; Eyetoldyouso, LadyPutt, SirBenson, Super_Realist, and TheCleaver are all down another pick. Could that be costly for those at the top of the leaderboard?

Thanks for the reminder Grumps,

I think DeLaet needs to shoot in the 40's on Sunday to score points for me. Stranger things have not happened.

The delay to the Farmers will also cause the OWGR calculations to be delayed too. A decision needs to be made on the next event; Phoenix or Dubai? I'd usually use the OWGR points values to help make the decision but they're not available yet.....

Better field, more European interest in Dubai.
More time for selections for Phoenix.
Decisions, decisions.
Whatever is easier for Grumps . . . . . .

If there's a better field in Dubai we'll go there Kwini. Just need this to wrap up and for the OWGR folks to do their thing. Thanks

That's where we heading Pedro. Just need the OWGR to be updated so the categories can be sliced and diced.

Grumps - I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say if the slicing and dicing is done or projected rankings, or even last weeks, that will be good enough. Don't make yourself even more work than you need to

It's just a copy and paste from the rankings into Excel and then a small amount of tidying up so the lookup will work.  Once that's done the top 14 are in Cat A and then the remainder get divided in two.  As long as the splits make sense from an OWGR perspective; top 30, top 200 etc. - I like the asthetics

As far as I'm concerned you can even slice and dice them in groups of: Fatties, Stupid Names and The Rest (which for the PGA Tour is the smallest group)...

Hooray!!! Cracking start to the season! Two good finishes followed by my first win this year! Chuffed to bits! My Lowry and more importantly Choi pick coming off nicely!

Well done to all, great little battle Pedro and LadyPutt.

As always great work Grumps!

P.S How close does Sneds round come to one of the best of all time (outside of majors obviously)

Well done ozzy!
I imagine we'll be regaled by some stats showing just how impressive that Sneds round was.
JB Holmes at Doral last year, and Furyk's 59 at the '14 BMW will contend, plus Watson at Memorial a few moons ago. Possibly Els at a windy Open also.
I'll post the PGA Tour's take on it on my thread, when and if.

Well done Ozzy - picking KJ was pretty inspired IMO. I wouldn't have given him a cat in hell's chance!

Agree about Sneds' round - in those conditions it was pretty awesome.

Oh well. I actually had Snedeker and Choi as original picks but went for more conservative options in the end. Not a good week. Well done ozzy
