No Root, Olly?
Give him a rest for the rest of this tour I reckon. See what we have in Vince
I think England need to play what they think will be their starting World T20 line up in both of these games. This is it before the tournament isn't it?

I thought we had a couple of warm up games in Bangladesh before the tournament? Might be mistaken tho

There are probably a couple of warm ups, not sure exactly what conversely they might prefer to experiment in those than in these full competitive games. Seems Morgan has confirmed as much about this match, and yes our strongest XI does contain Chris Jordan!

Well they may try the three spinners with Dawson in one of those warm ups

So Reece Topley dropped Morris, now has served up two full tosses in a row to lose the game.

Closer than it should have been, but rubbish batting always left it being a struggle

Re: South Africa vs England ODI Series
So to quickly recap:
England hit the ground running in this series and seemed full of confidence going into the first couple of matches - winning both.
SA, on the other hand, were in disarray.
However, those forced changes "swung" the momentum back their way after the 3rd match. A new potential star is born in the process.
They then continued to back themselves, performed well, got the psychological upper hand - and finished very strongly to win the series.

After the first two matches in this series , England were a wonderfully talented group of dynamic young players and it was obvious that only pig headed officialdom which failed to pick them all earlier had held England back in the Workd Cup etc etc...new world order , poised for success in 2019...
Two losses to a good team (1 of them by a single wicket) and they are mostly rubbish
I didn't totally buy the first proposition and I am certainly not buying
the second. Like the Test team , this is a developing team , with a lot of promise. As Bayliss says , they are getting experience into a number of young players , and finding out who are the top 15-20 as they go.
It's a work in progress. Mostly they're good to watch. I think they're going to lose today ; but the tour has still has had plenty of good points and even a disappointing finish shouldn't cause us to despair.
On to the t20s now but it's not just us, Alfie!
An interview has just been shown on UK Sky in which Chris Jordan was introduced as ''the pick of the bowlers in Cape Town'' and asked for ''the key components about being a death bowler''. To be fair, I don't think it was VTR doing the interview.

Hi Guildford, he's averaging 13 and he's had quite a few chances now... I like him but not convinced he's an opener! I'd like to see him in the middle order

Can't really get a break though - unless he's to be replaced as opener for the WC t20. It is in Asia ; so I suppose you could consider Moeen...
Meanwhile Root arrives and immediately demonstrates one of the strange talents of the Very Fine Batsman : he seems to somehow influence previously tight bowlers to welcome him with a string of loose deliveries

That was rather a waste of a wicket.
Introduction of Tahir turned things around very quickly - one way and another. Plenty of batting left though

Alfie - I think it's almost 3 weeks after today before England's next game of any sort. If that's right, I would suggest Roy just go away for a week, forget about batting and hopefully come back then in a more relaxed frame of mind. He's currently looking over anxious and is intimidating himself into rash shots too soon in the innings.
I fully accept his form now is not good enough but I'm unconvinced that a temporary stand-in would be a better answer.

Re: South Africa vs England ODI Series
The bad news for Roy is that England aren't short of options at the top of the order (for a change!). Vince, Willey and Ali are all in and around the squad and all have experience of opening in T20 cricket, even if they don't seem to rate Willey's batting at all.

Re: South Africa vs England ODI Series
Well Morgan seems to have recovered some form at least...didn't look too fluent at first ; but he's hit a few in the middle in the last few overs.
This partnership has set them up for a big total with four to go , surely...

Two overs ago it was looking like 200.
Now they're more likely to be bowled out ...and 180 would be good from here. Some excellent fielding from SA allied to a bit of luck...

Re: South Africa vs England ODI Series
Billings selection was a waste of time. Can't blame him for going for it ; but the extra batsman has brought nothing - and now Morgan has just five bowlers to play with.
Still a reasonable score but I think SA will be favourites from here.

Eh you gotta go for it, they've just had no luck and hit the ball to fielders - just the way t20's are sometimes
Still a defendable total - maybe not with five bowlers tho

Re: South Africa vs England ODI Series
Willey has hardly set the world alight so far, and I remain unconvinced that his bowling will be anything more than cannon fodder in India. I'd probably have him ahead of Billings, just, but who they pick out of those two won't define how they go in the World Cup.
