Welcome to Season 8 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (SJE) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 23 players. Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1993.
Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will receive two additional bids to be used exclusively on academy age players. These players must be bid for on the National League Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by the RFU on its own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by the RFU against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
Player Draft
Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will participate in a player draft beginning the week of June 22nd. Both sides will be allowed to draft two players each. The draft picks will go as follows; 1. Worcester 2. Wasps 3. Wasps 4. Worcester.
Round Bidding
There will be two rounds of bidding. The first window will run the week starting June 29th and the second the week starting July 3rd. All sides will be allowed to sign one player each during the window. These bids are not protected if you do not have the funds in place to bid during the window you will lose the bid.
Open Bidding
From July 13th the foreign market will be open to all bids similar to previous seasons. Due to the world cup the window will remain open till the end of September.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the National League Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be European Rugby Champions Cup, European Rugby Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Failure to meet these deadlines is punishable by the addition of three match points to the oppositions final score, unless both sides fail to do so. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Sunday. Managers will pm the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result. To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
For domestic competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.
For European competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 6 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
Bonuses will be awarded on a scaled basis i.e. 2m for 5 games, 1.6m for 4 games and so on
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc upto a maximum of £5m per fine.

Totally agree, bizarre call for the Hartley chance, he didn't move???
Execution letting us down. Best has been fantastic so far, such a menace at the breakdown. Youngs is not releasing quick enough and causing us issues in attack.

229m to 19m....how are we not in front??
Haskell has his knockers but his aggressive defence is superb, really suits the "wolf pack" style deployed.

I didnt get the Hartley call - he got shoved over the line and Youngs touched down. You're right about the speed of the pass, Youngs just needs to get that ballot that little bit quicker as there is so much space to exploit.
Hoping our bench wins it for us - can't believe how one sided this game has been and all that defending must take its toll.

Re: Season 8 Homepage IV
We do give away so many penalties, but considering we played 1/4 of the game with 14 men it was a good defensive performance in second half. Gustard has done brilliant work.
Hartley had his best game for England in a while, just like the impact from our bench and BV was just unplayable. Kruis and Itoje worked well, but still think we need a bit more speed in our backrow.

Re: Season 8 Homepage IV
Good game yesterday.
Youngs pass and ability to move the ball is not good enough.
We should drop him from the squad.
Kruis and itoje were excellent. We have some great depth at lock.
Robshaw was dire and Haskell does not work at 7. We need a 7 who can help us get continuity and quick ball and he is poor at that.
He actually played quite well with excellent line speed and physicality but does not do the job you want your 7 to do. Also his yellow card could have killed us the game and he has a history of doing stupid things.
He would be much better at 6 if we have to play him.
Robshaw was anonymous except for his mistakes. Does not carry and is simply an average player. Definitely our worst player by a distance.
Really happy to see how much jones has reinvigorated the side. The bench impact is great and BV on fire.
Cole was much improved on previous poor performances. He only gave one or 2 pens this week and scrummaged well. Hartley had a strong game.
Still not sure on 10/12 but we are going in right direction.

dammit_chris wrote:They've got quite a few players to come into that squad who are being left to play AP rugby, but very few in the 6Ns squad who compare to the last 2-3 seasons and no Itoje's. Is an odd make up this year, loads of players from Leeds and Worcester and many of them aren't getting close to first team for either.
The Gloucester lad protheroe has been excellent for them. He is a big hope
For us and young. All the reports say he has been best player by a distance. Have not seen any of it so can't comment.
Think we have quite a few to come in. Hope so as
The u20wc is over here this year

Re: Season 8 Homepage IV
I am biased but I thought Robshaw was actually pretty good, 2 pens he gave away (which someone had to in those situations, so I don't think they were errors) aside. If Haskell had been where he was, the first try wouldn't have happened. He carried fine. He hit rucks well. He cleaned up. He made 14 tackles with no misses. He wasn't a boobie that got yellowed. Both he and Haskell are doing what I suspect Jones wants from them. I would take the penalties Robshaw gave away 10 times out of 10 btw.
Agree on the other points though. Youngs was our worst player for me. Itoje was huge. Billy immense. Kruis is first name on the team sheet. Ford meh. Farrell meh. Brown lacking bite running back, but still sucking in defenders and getting some go forward. Nowell didn't get a lot of chances but almost every touch he had was excellent especially the tackle and the ability to stay alive for the ?second? Try.
Generally good, lots and lots to work on. If Brown is out, we will struggle vs Wales, though.

I just think Robshaw lacks the pace and aggression in the tackle, we've got better so let's go with them.
Care needs to come in for Youngs who isn't at his best.

I would like to see care start and a different bench option at scrum half. I would have said Simpson but he is injured.
Dan Robson has been phenomenal in the last few wasps games and moves the ball so quickly. If he carries on playing the way he is then could be a great option.

Re: Season 8 Homepage IV
I thought Robshaw had an ok game yesterday, agree with CJ. But at same time think Pooly is right about his lack of pace and aggression in the tackle at international level.
Our backrow is generally pretty slow, Haskell has been putting together a good run for us and is just a tackling machine. He suits the defence Gustard wants to play, but he's still not a no7 and can be so stupid with decisions he makes, that hit on Murray was senseless as Ireland weren't even threatening at that stage.

I have never at any point in my life thought robshaw was an international player. Good
Club player but can't see how he has caps.
Can't see what he offers.
Agree re Haskell. He is such an athlete but he lacks a rugby brain.
So frustrating.

I agree with you on Robshaw Mat, you need that special something or world class ability to be an international and Robshaw is really just an all round good player as you wouldn't say one aspect of his game is world class - Haskell gets a lot of digs from fans, but you have to say that he does have a world class defensive game.

Will be really interesting what Jones does with the team next week, Warburton could be a real problem for us and they have been looking very strong in 10, 12 and 13 shirts, especially since Davies seems to be hitting some form.
Sounds as though Launch will be coming in for Itoje for his experience, while a bench spot for Tuilagi if he goes well today against Irish. Personally would prefer Tuilagi to get more time at his club.

Haskell obviously isn't the future but he suits the style of play. Him and Itoje put in some big hits yesterday and this really kills the oppositions momentum.
I feel a bit for Robshaw as he's a 100% player but he's just not got the skills for how we want to play.
I really hope Clifford gets a shot next game.

Robshaw is an outstanding club player.
Pete Buxton of Glos was the same. In top 5 players of Prem every year without fail but did not have a point of difference to stand out.
Biggest difference being Buxton got 1 England call up( was selected for the side and then dropped out through injury) yet robshaw
Has about 50 caps

Would prefer Itoje as a 6 to Robshaw, that guy just looks a special talent and just took to international rugby.
Was pleased Daly got on as well, strange seeing him line up as no12 but solid debut.

Made all his tackles and put in a strong defensive performance. Thought he did well, espc considering he was playing no12 (not saying he set world alight, but good debut and delighted for him as a Wasps fan to see his last 2 seasons form rewarded).

Yes made tackles and looked right at the level so a decent debut in an unfamiliar position.
A great bench option as he can fit in many positions

When Slade and Tuilagi come back properly we have some very good options for midfield. Seems that Jones is viewing Tuilagi as the answer to the issue in the no12 shirt, can see him working very well with Ford there. Slade and Daly could be great options from the bench.

I just fail to see how he went well, apart from the tackle he didn't really do anything apart from kick the ball out on the full.
Not saying he won't do well but he hardly "played well".
Could be a decent bench option but not at 12.

Bath lose again today and are shot. They got their 15th yellow card of season at the scrum.
With Auterac not having progressed as expected( still young and will get there) they have had to pick Lahiff who keeps getting battered and it sets the tone for them.
With Wilson struggling it means baths main weapon last year is their weakness. No good ball to attack off as no platform.
Mafi the Japanese signing for bath looks tremendous at 8.
Lots of good foreign signings for next window
Landajo, cubelli, Mafi, argie loose head, senatore, Hardie, Seymour etc hard to pick a target

Thomas Young would be a good signing on here, he's getting better and better for Wasps in each game. Amazed how much work he gets through and Wales must be keeping an eye on him.
Cowan got Tuilagi'd pretty spectacularly - can see Tigers getting that 4th play off spot. Croft was apparently excellent today.

Croft has been really good last few games I have seen.
Lineout obviously superb but been running hard lines near to rucks and been a nuisance in defence.
Still young enough to have more
England caps.

They've put him back to no6 as injuries saw him packing down and trying to play no7. Didn't work! Last 2-3 games he's been impressive.
Was at the Wasps game today and they reckon that Jones is going to move BV to no6 and get Hughes playing at no8 when he become eligible for England. Talk about serious ball carrying there! Could work very well with Clifford.

Hughes is Much better than last year
And is a massive carrier.
Still rough around Edges And drops a lot
Of Ball In Contact looking For offload. Less said about the kicks he has attempted.
Think he could be good impact
Sub. How old is he?
If he progresses like he has then he will be quality. Still needs to up work rate off the ball and learn
To read a game.
BV has improved his reading of the game and positioning so much. Hughes all over the place in that respect.
We need carriers and think Hughes would be a better 6 than BV as at 6 there is not so much focus on positioning and linking play.
We need a 7 and 6 do hope

That's some signing, be great to see him in the AP. Wasps are going to have some side next season.
I won't be able to do the next AP round or scores, back to the UK on Thursday.

Be interesting to see how Brussow goes. He was pretty poor when back in Bok shirt but decent at super rugby

Re: Season 8 Homepage IV
I'm not sure about poor, he played well and got the turnovers they wanted, just not Meyer's type of player.
He was great in Super rugby, was in Cheetahs best player most weeks.

Lord knows I should have done something else more productive in the last 15 minutes, but here is the updated table!
I've deducted myself another point because I was a man short on the bench, if someone could confirm that, that would be great! Now on to transfers..
