This has certainly cheered me up after Glasgow losing yesterday. Incredible!
Was there not a discussion to scrap the Scotland 7's team at one point not so long ago?

Yep, just a year ago the SRU were considering pulling the plug!
Ohhh how things change
Re: Did Scotland just win the Twickenham 7s?
England eradicated.
Doughboys downed.
Boks bashed.
Cup claimed.
Twickenham tamed.
What a perfect day.

has their ever been a better ending to a match? 11 down with 1 min left on the clock... time had gone off the final kickoff after scoring first converted try.

Just to add, Wales won the bowl final as well, not as impressive as Scotland, but considering the standard of players we put in there, it is no mean feet beating the Aussies.

No mention of this on BBC Breakfast this morning. I was disappointed, but not surprised.

Media coverage has been poor generally. BBC breakfast covered a tough mudder event in feckin Germany over this story, which is far more newsworthy!

The media did crow about the Kenyas historical win mind, they tend to pick and chose coverage.
Scotlands 7's has had a real upturn this season, they royally humped the Welsh last time out!
This seasons 7's has been strange, NZ are clearly persisting on carrying Sonny bill, teams are adding 15's players to their rosters in preperation for the olympics, and there have been a few shock winners...
That said, if I was a Scotland fan I would be excited about their prospects from here on in, this win wasn't a fluke by any stretch and they've certainly kicked on and become a team to really respect!

Where does this leave the 'Team GB' Sevens team for Rio? Didn't the unions agree that England's Sevens team would represent them?

Re: Did Scotland just win the Twickenham 7s?
An extended training squad has been announced with 15 English, 5 Welsh and 5 Scottish.
Scotland have beaten England 2 weekends in a row now...
12 will go to Rio - I suspect there will be 2 or 3 players from both Scotland and Wales with around half coming from England.

BTW - What has happened to the Crowds at this event
I have not been for a few years, but there used to be 3 times the amount of people there
This one looked more like a French Open tennis semi final - empty

It was the timing I think, to much other rugby on this weekend. On other occasions there have not been the clashes. They virtually filled Twickenham one year on both days.
The crowds accross the whole series have been up though.

Re: Did Scotland just win the Twickenham 7s?
The rfu cut the amount of tickets due to.complaints from locals. Wanted to make it a more family event.
Still I like to think I did my bit by drinking far to much.
And that final was some game. 90seconds left 10 poi ts down. What a decking comeback.
Was proud to pretend to be Scottish.

I know England lads deserve it on their qualifying consistency but could be a bit embarrassing when players arguably on better "form" from Scotland don't even get in the provisional squad. They've certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons.

Re: Did Scotland just win the Twickenham 7s?
Given that the assistant coach is Welsh we may even see more Welsh players than Scots...
And Wales have been pretty gash this year!

Re: Did Scotland just win the Twickenham 7s?
The thing is the more I think about it the more I think that throwing in these dead cert XV type players may not be the best idea come the Olympics. Previously I've been thinking that XV players were superior (but perhaps not in fitness which I think is paramount in 7s).
Hougaard was pretty average yesterday and when he went off his replacement played far far better. Ryan Kankowski was a nowhere man.
Reminds me of the time England rocked up to the Melrose cup world champs in 1993 with a bunch of nobodies (so everyone thought) and people initially thought the RFU were snobs. Everyone else brought their first choice XV players and England burnt them all with Harriman and Sheasby, maybe there is some specialist 7s team like the USA will walk away with the gold medal... could very well happen.

Re: Did Scotland just win the Twickenham 7s?
So who are the XV players - the Scarlets flanker, Wasps 9 and Mark Bennett?
Any more?
That's not too many and those 3 players would make very good 7s players - I know Mark Bennett has a lot of experience having played for Scotland in the Commonwealth games and other legs of the world series.

James Davies has played a fair bit of Sevens, I think - he played Sevens at the last Commonwealth Games, anyway.
