Martyn Murray - Time for Britain's bravest warrior to get some luck !!
What a throw back this guy is............
The then number 1 middle Martinez in his backyard.......I thought he won !!
The number 1 middle and perhaps P4P number 1....GGG in Monte Carlo.......
Felix Sturm in his backyard......I thought he won that....
Arthur Abraham in his backyard.............
The brave GGG effort was beyond the call of duty and I worry it cost him against Abraham.......Rosario-Chavez type slappings are never good for a fighter's short or long term future.......
Be great if it all clicked against Groves............Which I'm pretty doubtful of....
Anyone deserves a big win its this guy.........A proud warrior with much to be proud of...."Have gloves will travel"
Good luck to him.......Hope you beat Groves......

I knew who wrote this, when the title flashed up on my email
He doesn't avoid fighters, does he? A bit of a throwback and has no fear. I too hope he beats Groves. I don't hate Groves, but I definitely prefer Murray.

Murray is good but not great and whilst it would be nice to see him get some recognition, I happen to think that getting it at the expense of, in my opinion, a better fighter like Groves would be a tad unfair.
He could always drop back down to MW and secure a clash with Amir Khan.

Khan would outbox him. (sorry Truss, couldn't help myself)

I see Dave's point to a degree. I wanted Floyd to beat Manny, because I wanted to be right, by stating he was better. I did like Manny more though.

Was that Dave's point ???
I thought he was saying Groves deserves more success because he's better....
I think it would be nice to see a guy who has done everything the hard way rewarded..
Groves has underachieved for me..

I guess you can look at who he's fought and think he's been unlucky... Or you can think that for a guy of his ability he was lucky to keep getting the shots. Thought ge was very lucky to get a draw with sturm (might have Macklin to thank for that one), Got Martinez at a very good time but couldn't close the show when it was there for the taking. Full marks for bravery in the beating he took from golovkin... And if you can't do any better than Paul smith against AA then your curve isn't looking like an upward one.
Nothing against the guy, he's just had plenty of chances and come up short. Don't think Lady Luck owes him much to be honest.

Heaven forbid a guy that had a case for winning 2/3 middlewight title shots is lucky to get other title shots these days.....
When they are handed out like confetti (Smith got Abraham twice and Ward)......Like I said the GGG slapping probably affected him and if it didn't it should have..
Barker got Geale after Martinez "stopped him" and Macklin got GGG after he was stopped by the same guy.......
Not your best argument Milko..

They were all lucky to keep getting the shots truss, smith hysterically so.
Like I said I didn't think murray was unlucky with the cards in his fights, he put in brave losing performances. To use a Trussism, I generally found him a bit of a stinker, so maybe that colours my sense of fair play!

Re: Martyn Murray - Time for Britain's bravest warrior to get some luck !!
Like I alluded to earlier, Murray's criminal past prevents him from getting a visa to the USA so it makes life that much harder for him F*ck knows how they persuaded/how much extra they paid GGG to fight in Monte Carlo that time. Easier to give shots to the likes of Macklin and Barker when they can travel freely. Would have been interesting to see who, out of Macklin, Barker and Murray, got the first crack at the champs if the playing field had been level thoughTRUSSMAN66 wrote:milkyboy wrote:I guess you can look at who he's fought and think he's been unlucky... If I knew what irony was Milky..I'd think there was some in your post...
Fair play I'm mature enough to accept contrary opinions...
Then again who wants to be mature...

Twice you've brought up his criminal past now Dave..
Failing to see the relevancy. ..
He took on GGG away from home...GGG had fought there before..

Re: Martyn Murray - Time for Britain's bravest warrior to get some luck !!
I brought it up as a means of suggesting that was the reason he didn't get the title fights above Macklin and Barker when there's a good case to suggest he was probably the most worthy of the three. Also pointing out that whilst he's already been in with GGG, had he remained at MW there's always a chance he'd have earned a shot at either Cotto or Canelo but with those two fighting exclusively in the USA the chances were damn near zero of it ever getting made. Not slating him for his criminal past at all, he's clearly turned a corner in his life, but circumstances dictate that the likes of Barker Macklin and Smith got bigger fights in the USA ahead of MurrayTRUSSMAN66 wrote:Twice you've brought up his criminal past now Dave..

I'm arguing that he deserved his four shots...Not arguing whether he deserved them before Barker and Macklin or whether they deserved them.......
Now repeat that back to me...
So I know you understand !!

I'm suggesting his criminal record is a reason he's moved up to SM to try and get big fights with people outside the US, which to my mind doesn't make him deserving of a title any more than a fighter being a nice guy makes him deserving of one

I'm a pom pom carrying member of the Murray fan club, so obviously I hope he wins against Groves. Think if he fights in England he probably gets the nod in all three of his title fights. Was unlucky against Martinez when his knock down in the ninth I think wasnt counted as it turned a 10-8 round into probably a 9-10 round which ultimately cost him the green belt.
